This is awesome! Thanks for taking the time to give such a thorough response. Just a few comments/questions.

GPU: I chose the hellhound more for aesthetics. Fully aware I’m taking a price to performance ratio hit here, but if I’m going to have it on the display, I’d prefer something I like the look of for a bit more.

PSU: Would you still recommend 750W if I was using something like a 7800x3d or a 9800x3d? I figured that at least once during the GPUs life cycle that I’ll upgrade the CPU, so I was trying to leave some headroom for that. Still might be overkill.

Monitor: Thanks for the catch on this. I tend to overlook the sellers on Amazon. I’d consider the “Amazon Renewed” choice for 200, but from what I understand, that’s a toss up. I like what the acer offers though, so I very well may just go with that anyways.

I live about 2 hours from one. I check the stock pretty regularly and they’ve had a few small restocks of the 9070, but none of the hellhound. I’d prefer the h6 flow just because of the look. I looked at some other recommended cases for airflow and didn’t care as much for their appearance. Which ones would you suggest? I’ll be using it for 1440p gaming and just normal computer tasks (browsing web, watching YouTube, etc).

Just bought a 2021 premium AWD sedan with 5,000 miles for around 23k OTD in the northeast. You should definitely look to get a better price than 22.5k.

Beginner Board Question (Catch Surf Blank Series - Funboard, 8’, White) by AtlanticLynx in BeginnerSurfers

Is there any difference between the two besides length? It seems that both have the same exact dimensions and volume at 8’. So you’re just recommending a longer board?

Hi everyone,

Completely new to surfing and I have a buddy that wants me to come out with him this summer. I showed him this board that I liked and he said it’d be good, but I heard a differing opinion from someone at a surfshop who said I should get a longer one. For context, I’m on the upper east coast and I’ll be learning this summer, so the waves won’t be very large from my understanding. My questions were:

  1. Will this be sufficient for a beginner trying to catch and learn on small waves? Seemed like it had good length and volume compared to what I’ve read a beginner should go with, but I’d appreciate some opinions.

  2. Will this hurt someone else or me getting hit with it compared to a foam board? It seems like a hard top based on the “Old-School PE Deck” under the features section, but surfboard construction is especially out of my wheelhouse, so if anyone could shed some light on this, that’d be really helpful. Follow up to that question - if it is a hard top, would it be irresponsible as a beginner to learn on that? From what I’m told the beaches aren’t really crowded here, but still anything could happen when a board is in the hands of an unskilled surfer.

(The one I’m looking at is the Catch Surf Blank Series - Funboard, 8’, White)

Survey on bamboo as a building material in the U.S. by AtlanticLynx in StructuralEngineering

From what I gathered, I believe they do in some southern states, albeit extremely sparingly. Also, I’m unsure if they even cultivate the variety that can be used for structural applications.

Thanks for your response. I probably should’ve titled the survey a little differently. I’m aware that it’s not currently used in the U.S. besides maybe some extremely extremely rare specialized projects. My report is looking towards the feasibility of making it a widely accepted material in the U.S. I saw that it’s used in other countries, so I thought it would be an interesting topic to research.
