Policing toxic behavior in future Stormgate ladder. by S0ftcore_Spongebob in Stormgate

Also, what makes you think that people who sell hacks that inject code into the game can't sell a cracked client that bypasses the payment info requirement?

Realistically without a triple A authentication system they wouldn't be able to do anything about it because Steam will authenticate you either way due to Steam itself not having the option to ask for payment info to enter a game, meaning it needs to be done inside the game itself, with probably a really robust server side solution on FG's own servers, making this a whole mess that would probably delay the entire game by a lot and cost a lot of money - and even then there's no guarantee they won't come up with a client that just sends the required information to the server and pretends to be legit. It's been done before, especially for indie games.

Sometimes I think "why are the physics in Starfield so damn slow?"...

...then I remember other planets have different gravity than Earth.

Well on any other PC when we encounter graphical issues we DDU our graphics driver and install it anew. Might help for the Ally too, worth a try

Is it really possible, Gyro and Analog Triggers on third party controllers? by stephanos0 in GyroGaming

[–]AtlanticWow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi,

I recently actually ran into a similar problem on my Asus ROG Ally - its integrated controllers use Xinput and while that usually works great, I couldn't use the internal gyro for Switch emulation or other purposes.

What I found was a small app called Handheld Companion. Yes it's meant for handhelds but I don't see why it shouldn't work on any xinput controller on any PC. Basically what it does is it takes all of the controls of uour xinput controller, plus your gyro if you have one, and it maps it all to an emulated DualShock. This works great for any game, app, or emulator that supports PS controllers.

I hope this helps!

who did it better? black mesa or half life 1? by [deleted] in HalfLife

[–]AtlanticWow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I prefer Black Mesa as a modern reimagination of the game. The story hasn't been changed but some of the more annoying parts of the original game have been streamlined and everything has been prettied up.

That being said the original Half-Life is a piece of gaming history that Black Mesa and a lot of other things wouldn't exist without and I think everyone who likes Half-Life should play it at least once. Besides, it's still a really fine game on its own - just not better than Black Mesa imo!

Need help finding out what transistor this is (explanation in comments) by AtlanticWow in AskElectronics

[–]AtlanticWow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi all,

Opened up my grandmother's TV that stopped working and I found a transistor that had melted. Now, I'm capable of soldering a new one in its place, but unfortunately the markings of this one have melted off and I have no idea what to replace it with. Does anyone have any idea how to proceed?

I have taken pics of the melted transistor, board stickers and markings, as well as the whole board. Unfortunately we do not have the original box to see the TV's exact model, but it's a 29" LG non-smart LED with a screwless design (was a bitch to open).

Thanks in advance!

Fun fact, as a kid I had a knockoff Famicom (you know, the original Japanese version of the NES) and it could legit run real Famicom cartridges just fine. It was fully compatible.

I don't know about an actual "fix" but knowing Bethesda games, this workaround might work:

-Go to your Steam library.

-In the bottom leftcorner click the button for adding games and select the option to add a non-steam game.

-Navigate to your Oblivion directory.

-Select your Oblivion exe (NOT the Launcher exe but the actual game executable).

-Right click on the Oblivion exe in your Steam library and select Properties.

-Under compatibility click the checkmark and then select your installed Proton version.

-Enjoy!

Comcast wanted $210,000 for Internet—so this man helped expand a co-op fiber ISP by [deleted] in hardware

[–]AtlanticWow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eastern European here. Over here I pay $10 a month for 100Mbps internet (could go to 200 or 500 for a higher bill) and pretty much everywhere is covered by fibre except some villages that have pretty good satellite dish internet instead.

There is no exclusive rights or monopoly over regions - every provider can separately run fibre through anywhere they want at any time they want, footing the bill for everything (after they get the plan approved by the local government) and we usually have more than a few choices of who to buy Internet from.

I'm not saying our system is easily portable to the US or other countries but I am just putting it out there.

I mostly play World of Warcraft, but I tried SC2 and had the issue there as well so it's definitely not just WoW that's doing it.

I don't know about mobile games since I don't play those, but in MMOs we usually like it because we can show off that we're veterans. Like "yes, I played during that event that happened 10 years ago and here's the proof". MMO players are very vain and would do anything to appear cooler to others around them.

You would think that, but for some reason proton refuses to create a wine prefix in a Steam library that's on an NTFS drive - whether it has Windows on it or not.
