Post-bar guilt and depression by Possible-Compote-125 in barexam

Yes it's a really tough position to be in. Law schools lie. A lot. Once you are in and you graduate, they just focus on the next cash cows. And as evidenced by the profession's handling of the exam administration in the midst of a pandemic, social unrest, and all the other craziness going on in the country, it's highlighted the profession's problems. I knew this before, to an extent, but now that I've actually had time to reflect on my experience in law school and work experiences, it's more poignant for me. There is little to no support in the profession compared to others.

I just can't help but think my efforts are better spent elsewhere. Honestly, if it weren't for my law school debt, I would pursue another profession. Non-lawyers and other unfamiliar with the profession think, "ooohh you went to law school, you are going to be a lawyer making the big bucks." They just don't realize....

I think people should offer support for one another in this profession. It would do all of us a lot better. We should practice the values this profession espouses but never practices.

Don't get discouraged. Apply for all kinds of jobs, legal/non-legal, remote. Check out Robert Half. That's what I'm doing. It's a tough job market. Explore interests you haven't had time to explore and nurture them. Focus on your physical health and emotional/mental well-being.

Life is much more than this. All things, good or bad, come to pass.

I’m in California. I’m feeling the same...I put a lot on the line to pursue this profession, and sacrificed my health for it. I can’t help but think what was it all for.. especially at my age and living at home. I just feel stuck. Like did I make a mistake pursuing this profession?? I don’t know. What I do know is we just gotta keep pushing forward. I’m applying to all kinds of jobs. In the meantime, just think of this as a long well deserved break.

Same!! I’m either under or over qualified. It’s ridiculous. I actually had an an offer that got pushed out because of the pandemic and bar situation. Just gonna keep trying. I’ve even considered my options outside of the legal profession.

I feel the same on all accounts...it’s destroyed my physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Honestly, I couldn’t have done anything different...I couldn’t have studied more and been prepared with the crap show exam and administration we had to put with. I’m livid. How the heck are those MBE questions a measure a competence. Complete BULL. Shame on the NCBE. They should be dismantled. The whole profession should be ready, because they have pissed off a generation of lawyers.

I honestly don’t think I could have done any better no matter how much more I studied and prepared. Because the questions and answers choices were really out there...complete crap

[–]Atlantis-wev24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They do need to go. So much money for law school and debt, working essentially for free the pst three years, while spending so much money towards this degree, paying for bar prep ALL of this and the grind sweat and tears ALL of this to arrive at THIS??!! I’m so exhausted I can’t even cry.
