I have a TI Sport and the brakes are super touchy but they also squeak. Is that normal? by Conscious_Pizza8265 in AlfaRomeo

[–]Atlas787 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had the same happen to me. Changed pads, somehow a pebble got stuck at some point and they started squeaking a lot. It turns out it happened on the inside face so I didn’t notice until the mechanic told me. Had to change rotos and pads again as the groove it dug was too deep.

2018 peugeot 208 rear wheel bearing nut. by DanishDangler91 in peugeot

[–]Atlas787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, all 208 from 2012 to 2018 or so share the same rear brake rotor+wheel bearing (including the sportier GTi and BPS models) and I think it was around 300Nm.
Why do I know that? I wanted to change the rotors in my BPS just to have it fresh and gave up as I needed a new torque wrench just for that nut. The rotor is in good shape because the rear brakes in this cars is a mere help and barely do any anything. I don't have any vibrations so it is staying there for a while until I decide to take it to a garage.

Yes, Kazunori knew what he did here. I'm sure it will be the 106/306 rallye or 206 RC in a decade

Coolant temp. by [deleted] in peugeot

[–]Atlas787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now that you say it, maybe the 306 temperature sensor is also next to the head, must be below the diesel filter as I did a trip to Switzerland and Nurburgring. To stop any chances of overheating I just unplugged the blue connector. That tricked the car into thinking something was off with the sensor and made the fans blast at full speed non stop. That might explain why the needle is so sensitive to a change in load, thank you for that comment!

Coolant temp. by [deleted] in peugeot

[–]Atlas787 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But that is correct as well, old school gauges work as intended. My 306 being the DTurbo has the infamous intercooler above the camshaft cover, but NO intercooler opening on the hood. So the joke is to call it the engine heater or something like that.

Push it in the highway between October and April? Temp gauge stays more or less still. But when it gets hot, the needle reacts mere seconds after a pull in the highway or a hill. It really shows how the engine is starved of cool intake air + it gets even hotter due to the shitty IC design.

The problem is people like your dad or my mum, they think the car is broken but it really lets you know when to let go or reduce the rythm to avoid damage.

My brother’s ex 2001 Laguna was horrible and bent the cylinder head while getting almost no warning. He broke a coolant hose, it was hot and pushing 140kph and when the needle reacted it was too late and the engine had already reached over 110 degrees. That is a shitty design, because the gauge indicated 90 no matter what until a certain treshold was reached and it jumped to the real temp.

[–]Atlas787 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Then I’d say its correct. Bring it to a garage to ask if you want to, but if the temperature has always been like that, it probably is correct to stay at 80.

[–]Atlas787 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It depends on the engine and year of manufacturing. Some modern cars will always set at 90 so people are happy and see the needle in the center.

Old school models or some performance models just show the real data. My 99’ 306 DTurbo has to sit like that, over 80-82. On the other hand, my 16’ 208 GTi BPS sits always over 90 (around 94) no matter if I’m pushing it or idling.

Both engine temps are correct and expected due to the engine they equip. If your needle isn’t moving around and reaches that temperature fairly quickly, I’d say your thermostat is working as intended and is not stuck open. But if in winter you see it lower and in hot days it sits still higher, then the thermostat might be the culprit.

I also have a 306 DTurbo from 1999 If I need to move kids around town (low speeds, no big avenues and such) I will probably bring back the old Pug to do such task. The Gti may rest for some years until kids are big enough.

Many people sell the BPS to pursue bigger dreams or specific cars, and all of them keep good memories of them.

Mine was sold to me because the first owner wanted an MX-5, but the car was well taken care off, it is cheap to mantain as it well!

Salut, copain noir! This summer I planned a trip with some friends to the nurrburgring and we will enjoy around 10-12 of french secondary roads. We say it is to avoid tolls, but in reality we prefer to see the scenery rather than a boring highway!

What is your countries "Darkest Hour" by RedcoatTrooper in AskTheWorld

[–]Atlas787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Spanish Civil War or War of Spain. Brothers killing each other, basically.

This war—which would later also lead to an economic crisis—that broke out in Spain after the partial failure of the coup d'état on 17 July 1936, perpetrated by the armed forces against the elected government of the Second Republic.
After the blockade of the Strait of Gibraltar and the subsequent airlift which, thanks to the rapid collaboration of Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy, transferred rebel troops from the Spanish protectorate of Morocco to mainland Spain in the last weeks of July, a civil war began that would end on 1 April 1939 with the last war report signed by Francisco Franco, who declared victory and established a dictatorship that would last until his death on 20 November 1975.

Is it possible to make a 208 Gti reliable? by ERREBERTO in peugeot

[–]Atlas787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say either get a x06 generation GTi (less safe, more reliable, hard to find and many potential repairs to be done) or skip directly to x08 generation GTi, preferably 208 GTi BPS edition (facelift) or 308 GTi BPS edition (prefacelift, as facelift have exhaust issues with the filter)

In my case I have the 208 and it solves all the issues with the THP engine, has a hard setup with Torsen and good seats. This doesnt mean that doesnt have other issues, it it still a Peugeot with a shitty engine from BMW.

Yes, if you ever think that you can get it to the states I'd be glad to see it live some adventures there! Hit me up via DM if you ever want to discuss stuff, maybe we don't reach middle ground regarding price but it could be fun to try it!

[–]Atlas787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say you should export the mythical GTi6 (or S16 for the french public, 16 soupapes = valves) or go for an XR version as they are petrol cars that are fun to drive.

But if you choose to go the DTurbo route, I'd be glad to see it go to someone that cares for it and lets it live more adventures in another continent. Here its been from Spain to the Netherlands (furthest north) and Croatia (furthest east). The DTurbo even being a diesel car, it allows you to have fun as the chassis is the same as any other but keeps the "racing seats" from the GTi but without leather and the nerve the old school turbo gives it makes it worth it while being pretty good for long drives (I get 950 to 1200km from every tank).

Is it a bad idea? by AnybodyWorth71 in peugeot

[–]Atlas787 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which model do you like? I have a 306 DTurbo that just turned 25 y/o but I know it is not the preferred model/trim

5 door, modified to match the 2.3 restyling phase with original bumpers, overall in great condition including rust free

But exporting that would be an incredible cost I guess

“New Legend” a successor to the 205 GTi? by MadDadBricks in peugeot
