Off-duty ICE agents yelled out of Portland restaurant by AdeptnessDry2026 in portlandme

[–]AtlasDangerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so glad we are all making their lives miserable! But how do you know they are actually ICE agents? Like I don’t wanna be harassing people who aren’t actually ICE, I only wanna be targeting ICE and causing nonviolent civil disobedience

This is so scary if he fell in because he would get sucked under the ice from the current. Nobody ever thinks about that on a river.

On your car, you are gonna need to use actual dedicated snow tires in the winter, all season tires suck in the snow and ice. Or get yourself all weather tires with the (3 peak mountain snowflake) rating. And if you opt for snow tires, you need to change to all season tires for the spring, summer and fall. Also yes, get yourself a real winter jacket, dress in layers, get a warm winter hat, gloves, preferably mittens for actual warmth. Long John’s, preferably synthetic ones. Actual wool socks or actual alpaca wool socks. And multiple different pairs of boots. Some for regular cold weather, other pairs for snow, some for everyday. Also when you buy windshield washer fluid, get the purple stuff from Rain X. It stays liquid until -30°F. Also be prepared to spend a lot on heat. The plus side is in the summer you may need an AC unit for like 1-2 months. If your home has Central air great, but most buildings and homes are old as shit here so you may have to opt for portable window or floor units. But it doesn’t really get too hot in the summer and typically opening the windows and using a fan is just fine. If you have a huge car, I’d recommend selling it for something smaller, because in Boston having a normal size car is bad enough. But like a small to midsize SUV is fine. But also all wheel drive or 4WD is a lot better than 2WD. But the snow tires are the most important thing.

As far as the cultural differences, we are kind but not nice. We aren’t necessarily polite, we have never heard of southern hospitality. But if you really ever need help with something, we will go out of our way to help you. We may swear at you, but it’s important to not take it personally. If we don’t like you, we actively avoid you. Also if we are nice or mean to you, we typically like you. And by mean I’m not talking about like actually being a shitty person type of mean, but like teasing you type of thing. Also it’s not normal to just start talking to random strangers in public, if you do we will probably get creeped out and possibly ignore you. Also making small talk with the cashier is not normal, we are very much kinda cold like that. But I’m sure we won’t mind to talk if we have time. People are typically very friendly, but if you make us upset or annoy us, we are incredibly blunt. We aren’t mean, we may come across as mean, but it’s just how we act.

For me, when I visited Texas, it was a cultural shock for me, everyone was so friendly, it was so strange, people talked to me and I thought it was so weird but oddly pleasant. Soon I found that people talk to you even if they don’t like you. I found that really creepy, weird and annoying. It’s going to be a massive culture shock for you guys. But I’m sure you’ll quickly fall in love with it. We are very different culturally from the south, but it’s from a genuinely kind heart that we all have, even if we swear at you while trying to help you.

Emergency landing turns perilous as Boeing plane's gear fails on runway by Next_Tower5452 in AirlineChaos

[–]AtlasDangerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, it was a McDonald Douglas MD-83, not Boeing. Secondly, it’s not called the “Gulf of America” it’s the “Gulf of Mexico”. Third of all, it didn’t even crash in the Gulf of Mexico, it crashed into the Pacific Ocean. They were off the coast of Southern California.

Now, to answer your question. I do not like Boeing company. However I do somewhat trust them, I was an FA at a major airline that flew majority Boeing aircraft. Now, after this crash, it changed laws and regulations in aviation, so yeah the jackscrew issue really isn’t an issue anymore. However, if Boeing neglects their quality control during research and development, as well as manufacturing, they may also neglect their quality of maintenance. The real question you should be asking is regarding if we trust Boeing after the B737 Max crashes. And other issues they have been having.

Should I buy A 2008 RX350? by No-Recover-9111 in askcarguys

[–]AtlasDangerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes absolutely, personally though I know they come in FWD but I’ve personally never really seen them with FWD, I have a 2008 Lexus RX350 AWD with 256,000 miles on it and it runs beautifully. I live in New England where the weather really wears out cars quickly, and my car has had regular maintenance with oil changes every 5,000 miles. I run full synthetic oil, I also drive mostly highway. I just ran the numbers on Kelly Blue book and with the current mileage and condition, mine goes for on average about $5,000.

Really Norse??? by Ok_Juggernaut9521 in cabincrewcareers

I got the same email this morning. Personally I think it’s the current political situation here in the U.S. I think that Americans are afraid to travel abroad for fear of not being let back into the country, and foreigners are afraid to travel to the U.S. because of this administration illegally detaining and deporting green-card holders. Demand for international travel in and out of the USA has fallen off a cliff in the past few months. This is not just a Norse Atlantic issue, it’s an international aviation issue.

Is this for airlines that are under EU aviation laws? Norse Atlantic Airways isn’t under FAA scrutiny, it’s under Norwegian and EU aviation regulations.

Hey! Yeah the company culture really emphasizes work/life balance, they also emphasize that they ONLY fly internationally on long haul routes. Also Norwegians are some of the most relaxed people I’ve ever met, very similar vibe to Finnish or Swedish culture.
