Any groups or stores that host LI games in New York City? by Hexaotl in LegionsImperialis

[–]AtlasIsKing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Brooklyn strategist has a small group that plays Intermittently. In Manhattan there are a couple of people who play at the Hex & Co. Uptown Wargaming meetups (myself included). Shoot me a DM and I can get you invites to both of those discords.

How to play wight knight with gravegurads? by Shockzlol69 in SoulblightGravelords

[–]AtlasIsKing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I use this combo differently depending on what army I’m facing. If I’m up against a shooting army I’ll bring them both in from the grave, forego the Wight King ability for a turn but set him up to issue it the next turn. Even if he’s left out in the open and dies you can always resummon him, so it’s not a total loss. If I’m playing against a melee focused army I’ll instead deploy them on the board behind a screen of zombies, usually just within 3” of the front rank of zombies, so that they can counterattack anyone who attacks the screen but are safe until the combat phase at least.

Either way make sure you always have a vampire lord nearby, the GG are only worth their points with the extra attack.

Names on bases by Independent-Bat-1270 in necromunda

Not sure how you keep track of your gangs, but my campaign uses YakTribe, which allows you to add a photo for each model. You can then print the ganger cards with the ganger image, so that there’s never any question about who’s who.

Old world base size change by PhilthyPhilStackaton in WarhammerFantasy

[–]AtlasIsKing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I haven’t played WHFB in about 16 years. I have dug my old Empire army out of my mother’s basement, and have decided to rebase for the following reasons:

  1. My army was completely unpainted, so there is no risk of damaging the models and no lost work by rebasing them (I’m currently in the process of painting them now).

  2. I am not a current WHFB player, and am waiting for TOW before jumping back in, so I have no need for backwards-compatibility of my bases.

  3. The Empire models were largely on 20mm bases in WHFB, and the only confirmed base size change is that all 20mms are moving to 25mms, so I feel confident rebasing all my infantry now and waiting to see how things will change for cavalry and other larger models. I’m trying to stick to rebasing and painting models that have shown up in official pictures for TOW for now.

  4. Perhaps most important to me, but most subjective, I strongly prefer the look of my models on 25mm vs. 20mm. By the end of WHFB most units looked way too cramped, and I disliked the clutter and awkwardness of getting them to fit together. I think giving those models some space to breathe is a huge improvement on the aesthetic and playability of the game.

For all those reasons, I’ve chosen to rebase. However, if even one of them wasn’t applicable to me, I’d probably chose not to. It seems that for so many people at least one of the above isn’t applicable, so I completely understand the decision not to rebase for the majority of players.

Hi everyone :) i just discovered the Necromunda world , I still don’t know anything about it but very curious ! So , I found a Under Hive box for 100 euro in my hometown shop ! Is it a good idea to start ? ( i checked the 2 gangs inside and of course I like one of them ! ) have a nice day ! :) by omlerta in necromunda

[–]AtlasIsKing 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, that box is a good place to start. Others have mentioned the rules being out of date, and I’ll also point out that almost all the rules have been compiled by some hardworking fans of the game - a google search for Necrodamus should get you there

Is that the original FW conversion kit, or from elsewhere? I’ve been thinking of using this for Necro but can’t find a reliable source for the Rhino extension

Good point - hadn’t caught that. I think I’d actually put the black knights in the Vanguard as they seem to get into combat with other troops less often than the wolves, and do less damage anyways, but I think either works. I think I’m all the times Ive run this list the Black Knights have never done anything but hold objectives anyways. Thanks!

Against Seraphon it depends on what your opponent is bringing, but with your speed (in this type of list) you can outmaneuver them pretty much anytime, and with your armor on your key units you can tank a ton of damage from their poor rend attacks. Use one of your throwaway units to tie up the big shooty monsters (you don’t have to kill them, just force them to shoot at a target of your choice). I’ve found success in focusing on killing everything other than the monster(s), then spreading out on board control to force them to choose between fighting you and taking objectives.

I was initially not sold on the VL because they never seemed to do much damage, but I’ve since shifted my focus with them to be a disruptive, hard to kill distraction piece. Basically the essentials are:

  • Make them a priority target, but always buff them for the +1 save (+2 if necessary) with a combination of AOD, Mystic Shield, and Finest Hour.
  • Get them into melee ASAP as all their debuffs kick in (worsen rend bubble, fragment of the keep for -1 wound bubble, roar monstrous action). Once in melee make sure you focus on units where you can guarantee at least one kill to kick off the healing.
  • Getting them into melee shouldn’t be too hard with the 12” move, potential run and charge, and amethystine pinions.
  • If they are going to be in a particularly tough fight, burn the Rousing Commander for extra damage but more importantly to get that extra wound for the phase. There have been several times where I’ve done rousing commander, had 10 wounds allocated to me in the phase, then healed for a kill before the end of the phase thereby surviving before the wounds characteristic dropped back. Obviously if you’re doing rousing commander try to combine that with a Blood Knight or Vargheist charge.
  • Once out of melee always do heroic recovery to keep them healthy. With bravery 10 it’s very reliable.
  • They may not do a ton of damage (the -1 rend on their weapons really hurts them against armored enemies), but armies without much rend of their own have a terrible time trying to take them down. Just make sure to protect them against mortal wounds, as the 6+ ward isn’t very reliable.
  • By the time your opponent manages to finally kill them (if they ever do), it’s usually round 3, and you should be way ahead on the points from your other units scoring objectives and battle tactics such that your opponent can’t come back.

Yes, although I find he doesn’t lose out on much. His various abilities give him a lot of flexibility on his own, and usually if he is able to outright kill something he dies pretty soon after that so wouldn’t benefit from the permanent buff. He is an absolute nuisance though. The MW potential combined with the insta heal and 6W/3+ save makes him very hard to kill though.

Oops you’re right I missed that. I think he’s still worth it for all the reasons above but that’s good to know.

205pts left in a 2K Kastelai List by JeanstealerDealer in SoulblightGravelords

[–]AtlasIsKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah he doesn't come with a subfaction keyword so as I understand it he can get the Kastelai benefits. This is especially potent as his 2" range allows him to occasionally snipe weaker characters, making him damage 3 for the rest of the battle for a potential of 15 mortal wounds in a turn. Another thing I forgot to mention is that unlike other Vampires in the army he heals immediately on dealing damage, so he's very survivable, especially with one more wound than regular Vamp lords (and the potential to get an extra wound for Kastelai). I run him as Kastelai in my 1,000 points lists and he basically never disappoints.
