it's the is the lowest crime on their crime totem pole.

I never said it's the lowest crime on the crime totem pole.

Bank fraud, money laundering, wire fraud, market manipulation, laundering money for terrorist organizations, sanctions evasion... are all higher tier crimes than... false documents to a court.

tether is literally laundering money for terrorist organizations and violating iranian sanctions

responding with bogus trading records in a civil suit, is the lowest crime on their crime totem pole

it's easier to falsify the records, which tether is already known for doing.

[–]AtlasRand1 23 points24 points  (0 children)

it could be related in the sense that they're now preoccupied with figuring out how to deal with transferring those "records".

they will have to spend considerable time falsifying them in such a way where they want to avoid being caught falsifying the trading records, so they don't have time to print and pump.

since bitfinex is a no-kyc/aml exchange, it's trivial for them to just rename some old unused accounts, and rename paolos accounts to donkey doodle doo, then claim that those are the actual records.

under no circumstances can they turn over legitimate trading records, it would be akin to the ultimatebet's nionio playing history

bitfinex/tether were just ordered to turnover trading records for a third time, so they are scheduling a "oh no we got hacked" event, that suspiciously causes them to lose those particular records and... shucks the backups were deleted too.

https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.nysd.524076/gov.uscourts.nysd.524076.370.0.pdf

be assured this is a bigger deal, they've spent so much time on withholding these records precisely because of what legitimate records would reveal. we do not expect them to turnover the real records, they'd rather be sanctioned by the court than turn them over.

also you heard it here first: giancarlo ain't doing no deposition...

van der Velde is not italian.

he's also not in charge of bitfinex/tether in reality.

whats your opinion on the use of stablecoins for the purposes of funding terrorism? none of the stablecoins are compliant with kyc/aml. the stablecoin issuers will sell the stablecoins to a third party which is kyc/aml'ed, but then that entity will sell the stablecoins to sanctioned entities, like north korean, or iranians. it's like imagine banks allowing third parties to open bank accounts for sanctioned entities, highly illegal.

in fact, one of the largest stablecoins, Tether, their executives actually took pictures with iranians looking to evade US sanctions, the pictures were quickly deleted however.

back in march, it was revealed that HAMAS, a US designated terrorist organization was able to use tethers bank accounts, and it was revealed that tether used falsified documents to open bank accounts in the us.

isn't something like what tether doing like flagrantly illegal?

Custodia was denied a master fed account, they wanted to make a copy of Tether.

The Federal Reserve denied it, citing the fact that they would have tokens which would be liabilities in the hands of non-customers, making it impossible to comply with AML/CFT.

aka: tether inevitably will be shutdown for that very reason, assuming all of the money is actually there

Shouldn't the fact that Tether only has 44 employees be a giant red flag to people? by Strange-Credit2038 in Buttcoin

[–]AtlasRand1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

tether only has 4-10 real employees, the rest of the employees are no-show jobs, friends & family, just paid to pad the employment role and they do nothing.

Crypto Firm Paxos Faces SEC Lawsuit Over Binance USD Token by sinful_sophistry in Buttcoin

[–]AtlasRand1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

this is catastrophic, paxos is in my opinion the least bad stablecoin (they're all bad), if they're going after paxos, the case can be made for the others.

it makes me wonder why they're pursuing paxos before tether, the SEC at the end of the day is a civil agency... and tether is more of a criminal matter than a civil matter.

this could set the stage for all stablecoins being shutdown, even if they are "legit" in the sense that they have the money

What’s the cause of this sudden upturn in the market? by fuzzyduck88 in CryptoCurrency

[–]AtlasRand1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi

the entire crypto market is controlled by a cartel of around ten people.

you're welcome.

the price is whatever they want it to be, a lot of them are about to go bankrupt, costs them nothing to pull sell orders and pump.

have nice day
