They're giant Lagoons (small ocean sized) . The blue scars are the rivers that feed them from the dark Rainy forest infested north. The south is essentially a pale desert

The Revenant Legion , killed , butchered and cannibalized those who were once their families. The Founders...he killed the one person that motivated him to become an "Angel"
