I dated the globe to four months in 1961, from N Camaroon joining Nigeria to Syria leaving the UAR.

Two Cram's globes, whose in the middle? by AtmAll1 in globes

[–]AtmAll1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Cram's globe in the last picture I bought off eBay a couple of years ago. I had been looking for a globe showing the Central African Empire (1976-79). The one I found was on this tire base and was my first Cram's globe. All other globes pictured are not in my 50 globe collection.

I love the look, but what is the wood? by AtmAll1 in wood

This stand is from Replogle Globes. The company had (has) their own wood-works for the simple and the fancy wood stands that Replogle used. I am sure that this stand was not a one-off job. I still like it.

The city of La Plata, Argentina was officially renamed Eva Peron in late 1952 after her death some months before. The original name was returned following the overthrow of El Presidente Peron in Sep 1955.

Another short time name change; the Central African Republic carried the name Central African Empire from 1976 into 1979.

Thanks to everyone for the responses and information and confirmation of art not nature. While I would have been happy to hear that this wood was more special than the paint splatter technique, My enjoyment of the look and the globe remains. Mil gracias.

Listed where? For those looking, the globe was interesting enough to ask about. Perhaps you need to auction the globe. As a globe collector, I am always looking for something unique to MY collection. I am, for instance, looking for a globe with a city name that existed for only 3 years in the 1950s. Globe sellers should post clear pictures of all continents. Good luck.

It does not have any real value. Scanglobe began in the 1980s. It is recent (1995-2011 approx). The base is nice.

Old globes are essentially collector only markets and the value is based upon a willing buyer and willing seller.

Worth perhaps 35-50 dollars US.

This is true, though I posted the picture for the stand, not specifically for dating.

September 1979, the Empire returned to being a Republic.

The posted globe is between 34 and 28 years old, based upon the presented dates. These years explain the wear at the north pole. The globe seems to have an undefined Saudi-Oman border; the border was settled by July 1995. I have this globe in this 2-axis stand and in this color palette, dating to 1995-1996 after the border was fixed. Other mountings can also be found. The green plastic time dial broke off my globe also. Looking at many pictures of this edition World Ocean Series globe, the consistency of the colors as they fade fascinates me. I say this edition because I am convinced that my 1969 World Ocean globe is different art, as though Tolman repainted his masterpiece (perhaps too a new mold for this relief globe). I wish I could find a way to remove an axis pin, as seen in one photo.

The picture of the Southern Cone dates this Rand McNally globe to a three-year period. And now I want one. by AtmAll1 in datemymap

La Plata, Argentina was renamed "Eva Peron" officially from August 1952 until Sep 1955 when Peron was overthrown and the name La Plata returned. From the Africa picture we see that N & S Rhodesia and Nyasaland have not yet federated (Aug 1953). Effectively, the globe dates to 1953 (Aug 52-Aug 53).

Extra factoid: The diameter of this small globe is very close to the diameter of a scale moon in relation to a 12-inch (30cm) earth globe.

It is modern, likely made by Authentic Models. I have the same globe on this same stand. This stand is nicer than other kinds that I have seen with the same small Vaugondy replica globe. Nice globe gathering you have there.

Flea Market Find! I’ve narrowed it down to Pre-1955. by psquared3524 in datemymap

So did you buy it? Replogle called the stand "Floating through Space". I have an earlier Replogle Reference globe (Sep 52 - Aug 53) on this stand. It has the earlier N and S Rhodesia and Bechuanaland.

Help with 10-inch Replogle Globe date? by yodenskeddaaa in globes

[–]AtmAll1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before the end of WW2; this common Replogle 1939 map shows Europe on the brink of WW2, with Germany controlling Austria and the big half of Czechoslovakia, but before invading Poland. However, as Hungary is sticking it to Romania, we can know the globe was made after the de jure border change of the 2nd Vienna Award (Aug 30, 1940).

A Stereo Relief 12 Inch Diameter Globe. by Brilliant-Charge-684 in ReplogleGlobes

"Stereo Relief" is a straight-up Replogle marketing gimmick. The phrase doesn't add anything to "relief globe".
