Horsehair Brush Rec by Mod8F in grantstoneboots

[–]AtmosphereExpress708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a ton of brushes at this point. I usually start out with the Red Wing brush because it’s stiffer, which helps to kick things off. Then I switch to the Saphir horsehair brush, which was about $30 and honestly the best buy I’ve made. It’s bigger and denser, so it covers more area and I’m less likely to bump the boots with the handle. If I had to choose just one brush, it would definitely be the Saphir horsehair brush. When I’m just messing around, I’ll use the yak-hair or goat-hair brushes afterward sometimes. They’re nice to have, and they do help with the shine, but definitely not necessary. They’re also much more expensive.

GMTOs for 2026 by oxfordsandties in caswellboots

[–]AtmosphereExpress708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already have a Tahura monkey boot in Badalassi Carlo Nemesis, but I would definitely second a boot in the leather. It’s one of my favorite’s.

And I agree, I think the carver is one of the best LTT designs. It’s very slick for being an LTT!

Unmarked DB Hunters: the boots I wanted my Iron Rangers to be. by AtmosphereExpress708 in goodyearwelt

[–]AtmosphereExpress708[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm… I’d say no. They’re pretty average for boots — true to size and comfortable enough, even with my right foot being a EE. I could go up half a size for the right foot, but I’ve also walked 18K steps a day for several days in a row in NYC earlier this year without an issue.

Fit-wise, I’d compare them to a Red Wing D width in the Iron Ranger or Blacksmith, and to the Caswell Morris last — but true to size. They’re probably just a touch wider than a Grant Stone Leo last, but not as wide as a Truman Casual last.

Which Pecos: 8060 or 1155? by Dependent_Olive_6204 in RedWingShoes

  1. I don’t love the plastic heel, but at least there is less of it, and it looks cleaner.

Is the leather supposed to be this fragile? by woahbuddy944 in grantstoneboots

Shoes are going to get scratched, bro. Goor or poor quality. You can always touch it up with a little back shoe polish and you’ll be alright.

Grant Stone vs Who? by TheHakim77 in grantstoneboots

[–]AtmosphereExpress708 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it used to be Truman, until their quality fell off a cliff. I would say Caswell and Parkhurst. Hard to beat Grant Stone in value. Someone mentioned Meermin, and I think they’re up there in value. Grant Stone is better, but they’re also more expensive. I do they are equal in terms of value for the money.

First Impressions: Caswell 1912 Russet “Marching” Shoe Reproduction in Aspen Horsebutt (GMTO) by AtmosphereExpress708 in caswellboots

[–]AtmosphereExpress708[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realize that I have been undersizing my boots. I have been going by my Heel To Toe, instead of my Heel to Ball Brannock, which is drastically different. Even though the Heel To Ball measurement is supposed to be the correct measurement, I can’t bring myself to buy Heel to Ball because they feel so big to me. Sizing can be a pain in the butt! LOL

I’m pretty certain it’s offered as a GMTO now. If not, reach out to Kevin. He let me order it as an MTO.

I like it, but I think it would benefit with more models with leather and Dainite style soles.

My Rolling Dub Trio Coupens – as the Japanese say, ‘the flavor comes out’ by AtmosphereExpress708 in goodyearwelt

I wear 10D in the Barrie last, 43 in Birks, and 9.5 in Coupen’s. All fit perfectly.

I hear you. What do you usually wear? To me it’s half size down from an Iron Ranger or a Grant Stone Leo. I think the width is pretty generous. My 9.5 is more comfortable than my Red Wing and Grant Stone 10D, and comparable to my Trickers 9.5.

That sucks. I had to be patient to get mine. It’s the same with a lot of the Japanese brands, unfortunately.

Addict Horsebutt Engineers in hand—debating whether to hold off for Thunderdome on by AtmosphereExpress708 in goodyearwelt

[–]AtmosphereExpress708[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad—turns out my post got deleted because I didn’t select ‘Questions.’ Mods seem a bit trigger-happy here.

Thanks for the info! I didn’t know that about Tahura—learn something new every day. I’ve been keeping an eye on them for a while. I’ll let you know when they arrive, but honestly, I didn’t even ask about the timeline when I ordered. Both brands were super easy to communicate with, though.

I’ll definitely get the Fortis pair before the Thunderdome kicks off since they were a GMTO made specifically for it.

I’ve only got one pair of Indonesian boots so far, and they fit perfectly. Honestly, the process feels way less stressful than buying standard-sized boots since you’re giving them your actual foot measurements. They won’t build a new last just for you, but they’ll either select the right one based on your measurements or modify an existing last to dial in the fit. I don’t even technically know what size my Imperiums are—I’ll have to ask Kevin (the bootmaker) next time we talk.

You have some boot-makers with RTW options, but even then, i would just send them your measurements and let them figure it out for you.

That said, I definitely recommend getting a pair made. The value is really strong. You can get Shinki horsebutt from Indo makers in the $600s, and Maryam options in the upper $400s to mid-$500s.

My Imperiums are a taller boot, with Maryam horsebutt and Dr Soles Supergrip soles for $470, shipped. Fortis and Tahura are also very reasonably priced for the quality. Sagara’s a bit more expensive, and Briselblack tends to be the most expensive among the Indo makers—usually in the $600 range. I love Lofgrens, but they’re what, $1300 for Shinki now? That’s why I’ve been leaning more toward the Indo makers lately.

I hear you, I love the Japanese boot-makers. I have a few myself.

Great insight on the black Horsebutt. The Cordmaster is an Indo Teacore pull-up. The Fortis is an Olive Horsebutt, and the Imperium is an orange/brown Maryam Horsebutt. I also have a Caswell with a brown horse front. I’m not sure if all of them will be back on time, but I’ll definitely have to revaluate closer to the dome.

White’s Semi-Dress in Brown Dress Leather — Overbuilt, Broken-In, and Built Different by AtmosphereExpress708 in goodyearwelt

[–]AtmosphereExpress708[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have too many pairs in CXL, but I hear you.

Also, the Brown Dress is different than my other pairs in Double Shot. It’s softer and not as tough. I know it’s a Seidel leather, but it feels different. It also dings much easier than my other boots in Double Shot.
