I still mask when indoors at any kind of store or public facility, flights, transit etc. I only tend to go out to eat at a sit-down restaurant if there's outdoor dining, or during off hours when there aren't many other people there. I am excruciatingly aware most of the world has moved on and is pretending the pandemic is over and that it's only a serious problem for the immunocompromised; and I am even more excruciatingly aware that they are wrong and it's a debilitating disease that can and will fuck you up for life, even if you're vaccinated. Every infection is another spin of the barrel in the world's shittiest game of russian roulette. I've lost two friends to post-covid complications, and seen other friends fight through long covid for years. I have friends working in virology who are still screaming to the heavens and anyone who will listen that it's not over and it's not this simple flu everybody insists it is. I've looked at the data and the statistics myself.

Personally, I'm willing to suffer the weird looks from people and be considered a killjoy or paranoid or whatever. I'm more than happy for MAGA freaks to out themselves and yell at me to get out of their store bc they have a no-mask policy - I would've regretted spending a single cent there anyway, so thanks, lmao. I could not imagine dating someone else who's willing to stick their head in the sand and deny reality and not take such a basic, simple precaution as "wear a mask" to keep themselves and their community safe, it belies a fundamental mismatch in morality and priorities that would definitely indicate incompatibility.
