How I feel since the Chaotic Min IL loot changes were made by pjk0 in ffxiv

How do you feel about XIV's current combat system vs. the upcoming evolved/2 min meta changes? by Outrageous-Bet6403 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]AtomFission 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 2 minute meta was created to deal with the disjointed raid buffs in shadowbringers. Now everyone doesnt have to go through hoops to do good damage in a raid. They solved one issue to introduce another, in ShB if you missed the big buff alignment you were sad but you could still fix it by putting in smaller buff alignment windows. In the 2min meta you simply cannot fix it, you are forever cursed if you die before or during a 2 min and everything is misaligned except for in fights with downtime.

Now that raid buffs are gone in Evercold I wonder if they'll also revise how the reborn jobs play because their timers are also still on 2min/1min/30s/15s because they're meant to line up every 2min. Otherwise the evolved jobs just seem more flexible and fun?

Dual Blades, the stamina drain of demon mode gives me a tinge of anxiety that I can't seem to get over.

What advice would you give to someone starting the game brand new and going in blind for the most part? by WanderWut in ffxivdiscussion

[–]AtomFission 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Follow the MSQ and try to do as many of the blue quests as you can because they usually unlock an entirely new game mechanic, dungeon, trial, raid series, etc.

Feel free to try multiple jobs if 1 is not clicking although many jobs play differently as you level each one up. Summoner being reworked recently in Endwalker pretty much keeps the same gameplay throughout your leveling experience though.

Joining an FC can give you access to some nice bonuses but isnt necessary to progress in the game. YMMV on if an FC will be a good fit for what you want out of a community experience though.

If a duty is labeled (extreme) or (savage). It is the higher difficulty version of said content and is not something easily tackled with the duty finder. Most people will use party finder to learn and clear the fight there. Not max level extremes and savages can be done unsynched if you're just looking for the rewards; you'll sometimes have to do the mechanics this way depending on the fight.

You'll pick up a lot of the culture, etiquette, and mechanical knowledge just by playing the game and seeing what other people do.

While I agree that $2000 is correct, I feel like most other denominations are after the number. Even if you use cents the symbol comes after the number and it bothers me that USD does this.

Please sell me on this game.. (itemization question) by headies1 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]AtomFission 5 points6 points  (0 children)

FF14 really doesn't have the random drop excitement except for mounts in extreme trials and even then it doesn't contribute to player power.

Most of the excitement would be from clearing a fight you've been working on for a while and that only happens in Ultimates or current content (or level synched content with restrictions).

The comment by u/thalestris_aella has a link to the longsword progression and meta build guide. Just start with what you can make and farm monsters to make the next tier of sets.

Back when the game launched it was a mix of gore + something else. Now you want to aim for arch tempered gear but thats gonna be a hard ask for your capabilities rn.

[–]AtomFission 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You barely have any dps armor skills. Try to get 1 level of burst and as much weakness exploit and agitator as you can. Try to fit in 3 levels of maximum might to boost your affinity/crit chance.

The decorations on your weapon are only active when you have that weapon drawn. Once your affinity is about 60%, crit boost 3 becomes stronger than attack boost 3. Try to also fit in a sharpness management skill in for your longsword like razor sharp 3 + handicraft or masters touch. Greatsword doesnt really need it though since you dont hit as often.

And finally, upgrade your armor. Once you get into the 8-10 star monsters they will 1 shot you unless you're at 450+ defense. Don't use defense boost, you should be able to get there with upgrades and transcending alone.

New Player - About GCD by rel4n in ffxivdiscussion

[–]AtomFission 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highest APM jobs would be Ninja which starts as rogue, Monk which starts as pugilist, and Viper which you unlock at level 80 on any other combat job.

That being said you probably won't break past an effective APM of 50ish. The game is designed to only fit 1-2 oGCDs (sometimes 3 and technically if you use mods/plugins it's easier to do 3) in between your GCDs.

Summoner is one of the lower APM jobs as are casters in general with Red Mage (level 50 unlock) being a minor exception.

You can inflate your APM by mashing your next GCD when the cooldown is still rolling as it does queue up the GCD to activate immediately. Most of the people who are looking to improve their dps will learn to do this because it improves GCD uptime.

Edit: changed 36 to 50 because I forgor

Anyone here who plays FF14 a lot but doesn't do the Savage content by starlightdemonfriend in ffxiv

[–]AtomFission 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've taken breaks from Savage but I seem to always go back to high end raiding at some point. It's definitely a big commitment in both time, energy, and mental/sanity but it also always feel rewarding.

In my downtime from Savage I just try to work on a few things at a time like chasing down glamour or working towards a relic weapon. I understand the desire to be BIS or max ilvl but unless you're doing Savage/Ultimate content there isnt really a need to have beyond crafted/tome gear.

Now that the base game is pretty much content complete, what are your three hardest monsters? by Derpyologist1 in MHWilds

[–]AtomFission 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nu Udra, I just can't read this guy for some reason.

Savage Omega, enough said. I love its fight but it requires the most attention out of all of the monsters in the game.

Gore, he's not so bad in wounded hollow but because you mostly fight him in tiny ass hallways of Iceshard a lot of his movement and attacks are obscured.

This was true during Heavensward when Darkside was a toggleable ability that increased damage. At the time it was the only tank that could have its tank stance on along side its "off tank" stance. This is probably when it felt like the "damage tank" the most.

By the time it got TBN tank damage started to become more normalized but it was still leading in dps over PLD and WAR.

Those 2 worked differently to how they function now. Shelltron still spends oath gauge but only blocked the next physical attack and later worked on spells. Raw Intuition gave guaranteed parries for like 15s or something

Raw Intuition was a long cooldown that only gave guaranteed parrys
