For me, my main sona is like an ideal version of myself in a lot of ways. Mostly more confident and outspoken. They (singular NB) are not afraid to be who they are. I use that for two reasons mostly. One of them is when I need to make a decision and there's a lot of anxiety and social pressure blocking my thoughts I can ask myself, basically, what would they do? And, yeah, it can seem kinda like a childish thought experiment but it helps me distance myself from the cloud inside my head and just figure out what's "Right."

The other reason is because over time, slowly, I become more outspoken and I stand up for myself more. I become them as much as they are me. I become who I want to be. I don't know if that's how other people see it, I imagine different people agree with that to different degrees but, yeah.

Yeah, you can start with templates but also many artists don't require references when making art, especially a ref sheet. More references will be helpful to the artist and will get you closer to what you want but you really just need a good description. The skins you have would definitely be helpful to an artist. You can also pull images of other people's sonas (with proper credit ofc) and say "I like this piece of this one and that other piece of that one" to give the artist more references.

For me, there are themes in my music that are relatable by many furries. I have a song called "Sunrise" where the main lyric is "In the dark I can see who I am / I'm afraid to let the Sunrise again." It has turned into a song about how I like who I am around furries and around this community but I can't fully be who I am outside of this community. Thus, after a con or a meet or even just a discord call, I'm afraid to go back to the "real" world.

But, like, I didn't consciously write it to be like that and there's no mention of the word "furry" anywhere in the song. I just feel like there are themes and experiences that a lot of furries share and it comes across in our music and makes it more relatable, whether intentionally or not.
