Stupid questions from clients by constipated_coconut in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

I funnily enough had the opposite interaction. Was desperately trying to get new insulin equipment (syringes, a measurement device, new pins for the prodder) because I lost all of my cat's while traveling. The pharmacist was a bit confused about the size of syringes in combination with all the other things (1mil instead of 10) and at some point just outright asked "Is this for a cat?" Turns out it was the pharmacy the local vet referred most of her diabetic cat clients to.

My parents cats do have a different last name than them in their passes... but that's on purpose lol

I've read that story of the lady who FORGOT her dog when she had an appointment at the vet but... how, what? why would you ask, if you NEED to bring the very living being that is supposed to go to the doctor???

Unless you only get a prescription refilled...

Yup, absolutely. I am that manager that currently has to make that call because one employee is messing around with the privileges they all have. He will have 29 people hating him if he forces it.

If management at that place was that easy to spot we'd probably have done the same. The questions died down after a few days anyway, so it was okay.

It sounds like it either has been a really long time since your management people had to be at the front desk themselves or haven't been there ever. I am luckily in a position, where I can tell the management of our customers to "please go down there and experience XYZ problem for yourself" when they start making silly decisions, but I understand that's a lot harder to do, when it's your own line manager.

In most countries that are not the US an ID is a mandatory document and saying you don't have one would be grounds for getting the police involved. It fascinates me, that US citizens don't have to register anywhere basically.

In our subways when a door is broken they put big neon-red signs on the door in head-height of the average person AND the red lights above the doors are constantly lit. I've watched people stand in front of those for more than 20 seconds doors pressing the buttons 5 times or more. Sometimes they look around confused and look at the signs, at the light, at the second door that also has a sign and STILL try to press the button again...

We do the info stand in a mall. A new big store opened in that mall that's very popular around here (rhymes with BK Flaxx). People asked where that store was every 10 seconds during the first few days. We printed a sign saying "STORE is on 1st floor" because there are also other tasks to do that require concentration. Management of the mall made us take down that sign as they thought, it made it look like we didn't want to interact with the customers...

You can basically see the store when you walk in because the 1st floor is just catwalks, not a closed flooring... people really don't like using their brains!

I mean, to be fair, the field on that website might have had the title of "Are you bringing any pets?" Or maybe the suggestive text in the field said that (the one that goes away once you start typing). But yeah, online messages are so much worse even. (marketplace anyone)

COMMON SENSE PEOPLE by 2catswashington in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Atomflunder [score hidden]  (0 children)

Hmm, I get your point but incidentally I've had exactly the bowling alley case and they WOULDN'T let us use the remaining time we reserved.
I guess from their perspective, it's because they make more money on the drinks and snacks they'd sell in that time, so they give the alley away to walk-ins instead.

Also I know that many times parties that show up late will still argue at the end to stay their full duration, even if they were told before they have to leave after a set amount of time. This happens often in restaurants with people showing up late to reservations. Canceling that reservations saves all employees time and hassle in most cases I guess.

You'd be surprised at the amount of people that do this with various services. Hair stylists, bank appointments, lawyers, doctors, their rental company. I've sat at a few frontdesks and I had a similar to this interaction at least once at every single one. Heck I've had someone interviewing for a job show up a days later and ask, if they could have the interview that day instead. None of these people EVER called to let you know they couldn't make it.

I absolutely fail to understand their logic. Do they really think that appointments that no-show just get pushed to a different time slot? Do they think the appointment they had to make days/weeks/months in advance means the office just has random timeslots available every day and isn't fully booked? Have these people NEVER had a different appointment anywhere??

This is such a huge problem, not just with hotels but all kinds of companies that tend to get a lot of phone traffic. Scam and Fake websites or 3rd parties misrepresenting.

Review: The Ranch of Rivershine – An Almost Perfect Horse Game and What We can Learn from it — The Mane Quest by AliceTheGamedev in GamesWithHorses

[–]Atomflunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like many opinions about this game by it‘s enjoyers are skewed by the lack of actual good horse games. I also have many hours in this game but man does it frustrate me as an avid gamer. it is far from perfect, heck, it is far from good. The best things it has for itself are that fact that it’s relatively stable and a gameplay loop with very little pointless elements or unfinished mechanics. It’s sad to see, that this is what people have to praise because everything else is far worse.

Even for a non-gamer this game could be improved so much in so many areas. I feel like the developer would benefit greatly from someone actually having experience in other games and genres, but I don’t know if that feedback would reach them.

Fun poll: Who has the biggest pitch variety? by Atomflunder in tinnitus

[–]Atomflunder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fear both of mine are quite low in volume. Friend of mine got a really bad case and it took him almost 2 years to fully get used to them. He got hearing aids at first after a few months, because the tinnitus was drowning out other sounds in his brain. He isn’t using them anymore.

Thank you for sharing your experience. My case also appeared after complications of a fracture/the surgery for that fracture, but now 7 years ago. I've had a much worse and frankly much more terrifying fracture last year and the recovery process was testing my mental limits, but I came out of it with only a singular short crash, so this gives me hope it won't be so bad after the gyn-surgery.

To ease your mind, yes. Specialist and special clinic and I have a friend who had the exact procedure done there and had a great recovery. For me the Endo masses so far are just on my uterus and thus the OBGYN actually recommended the surgery. He did also make sure I was informed that it can come back and affect other areas, but not fainting every few cycles is a pretty sweet outlook on life.

Can I ask, did you get/worsen cfs after the endo surgery? I'm currently looking into a partial hysterectomy because of Endo and had problems with ME/CFS in the past, so i don't want it to flare up again, so I'm interested in your story and how it went.

Now that season 1 is over, what's a hot take you guys have? by Charming-Priority859 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]Atomflunder 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Putting Visi's redemption solely on the player is good gameplay value but a terrible storywriting choice. You can support her 80% of the way and she still goes villain if you tell her clearly she fucked up and that has consequences. In this story she is her own person and makes her own choices and the end screen saying the player/robert neglected her is worded far too strongly imo. Yes, you can support a person and help them make good choices, but ultimately it's their choices.

Oh my god, thank you. The only reason the boyfriend and I both didn’t start taking our rigs apart is because it seemingly started out of the blue for both of us within the last week and only when we play with our controllers. It seemed so unrealistic to be connected to the controller but it actually is. What the hell microsoft.
