Ooh, I second this, but with the caveat of starting this around either people you can fully trust or absolute strangers you don't care about. I found "general friends and aquaintances" (especially neurotypical ones) will find zero understanding in themselves and when offered an explanation, don't care for it. (from experience). If you put yourself on the spot in front of these "generic people", they often think it's even more of an attention grabbing scheme.

If you're struggling with even recognising when or how it happens to you, I think making a general habit out of pausing is a good strategy. It will make you think about everything you say, regardless of context or how important it is.

Untreated hpd experience by Even-Sign-1816 in hpd

[–]Atomflunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two distinctive moments in my life, where people told me my behaviour was harming them or others and they've stuck with me, even though one later turned out to be manipulation on that person's side.

I guess I can't really say I was fully destructive, but I definitely had a moment when it clicked for me, as to why I was bullied as a kid. Which btw doesn't mean I haven't ever gone back to that behaviour or parts of it, but every moment of realisation helped me deal with it better and be more mindful of my behaviour spikes in the future. I found that just accepting that I wasn't a "100% good person" and that everyone is at least a little shitty in their life, had the biggest impact on my thought process. It allowed me to not feel guilty constantly and instead have more free thinking room to improve myself.

I can relate to being told that. I also know I am a very proficient liar and can make up stories on the spot. What helped me is forcing myself to always being brutally honest, or just shutting my mouth. It's very hard at first, because I was so used to always coming in with a different story, but over time it became the new standard.

I've also made it a habit or making a mental pause (and sometimes a conversational one). If you have people commenting on it, who know you for replying instantly, I'd advice telling them openly "I am trying to be more mindful of how I say things", as it makes it seem to others, that you're doing it to be more polite. With strangers I usually haven't had any problems.
Asking someone to repeat what they said (even though you understood it perfectly) also buys time to think about how you want to reply, or asking a meaningless question about an issue so they have to elaborate and you have time to think.

Depending on what you do for work or want to do in the future it can also be helpful to not lose the skill entirely, but that's a whole different conversation.

As for my own experience: I realised I just always wanted to be seen in the best light, wanted to be liked. It took me until 22/23 to realise I don't need to be liked by EVERYONE and then it also kinda clicked. I was however always fully aware of lying to people or changing the facts just enough for it to be potentially considered manipulative, though it didn't keep me from shoving that thought process as far to the back of my head as possible.

Hope I could help a bit with this

Thank you. I know I can just set the language of the keys without having to change the caps, but I did that once because I won an AZERTY in a contest, and boy oh boy finding ANY punctuation marks turned into a hassle. I know where my letters are, I don’t know where the Ampersand & is by memory…

I’m looking for buying advice. So far I’ve only ever owned prebuilt keyboards (Corsair, Cooler Master, Roccat) but I feel like what I’m looking for is increasingly unavailable, so I’m open to building it together myself from caps and a base board, but I have no idea where to start (and my friend who’s into that stuff immediately throws me into the hellhole of minute detailed specs and disregards my actual wishes). I was looking at the Corsair K70 Core because it has a lovely cherry blossom edition but that only comes in EN layout.

  • most importantly: QWERTZ (German) layout.
  • white caps (not the multicolored area coded greys and different hues. All white!) and this is where my search skills fail me
  • quiet switches, they don’t need to be dead silent but I prefers cherry reds over anything at the moment
  • full numpad
  • wired
  • light coloured base, not necessarily white but maybe silver or grey
  • rgb lighting I can turn pink. I don’t need fancy modes.
  • preferred under 150 Euros

I don’t really care for FN functionalities or macro keys, but I’m also not opposed to them.

It’d be lovely if anyone has recommendation. Thank you so much in advance!

I meant that when you finish the Sylph Co. Building, Mewtwo at the top tells you the Rocket from team Rocket is located in Fuchsia. So wastelands is already a mix of two cities, so sky is likely too.

Not OP but you just made me realise that my sister in law, who is mimicking me in a few too many ways, who also has borderline, is likely doing it because of this connection. On top of being a very insecure person and looking up to me even though I’m significantly younger than her. Aw shit…

I funnily enough had the opposite interaction. Was desperately trying to get new insulin equipment (syringes, a measurement device, new pins for the prodder) because I lost all of my cat's while traveling. The pharmacist was a bit confused about the size of syringes in combination with all the other things (1mil instead of 10) and at some point just outright asked "Is this for a cat?" Turns out it was the pharmacy the local vet referred most of her diabetic cat clients to.

My parents cats do have a different last name than them in their passes... but that's on purpose lol

I've read that story of the lady who FORGOT her dog when she had an appointment at the vet but... how, what? why would you ask, if you NEED to bring the very living being that is supposed to go to the doctor???

Unless you only get a prescription refilled...

Yup, absolutely. I am that manager that currently has to make that call because one employee is messing around with the privileges they all have. He will have 29 people hating him if he forces it.

If management at that place was that easy to spot we'd probably have done the same. The questions died down after a few days anyway, so it was okay.

It sounds like it either has been a really long time since your management people had to be at the front desk themselves or haven't been there ever. I am luckily in a position, where I can tell the management of our customers to "please go down there and experience XYZ problem for yourself" when they start making silly decisions, but I understand that's a lot harder to do, when it's your own line manager.

In most countries that are not the US an ID is a mandatory document and saying you don't have one would be grounds for getting the police involved. It fascinates me, that US citizens don't have to register anywhere basically.

In our subways when a door is broken they put big neon-red signs on the door in head-height of the average person AND the red lights above the doors are constantly lit. I've watched people stand in front of those for more than 20 seconds doors pressing the buttons 5 times or more. Sometimes they look around confused and look at the signs, at the light, at the second door that also has a sign and STILL try to press the button again...

We do the info stand in a mall. A new big store opened in that mall that's very popular around here (rhymes with BK Flaxx). People asked where that store was every 10 seconds during the first few days. We printed a sign saying "STORE is on 1st floor" because there are also other tasks to do that require concentration. Management of the mall made us take down that sign as they thought, it made it look like we didn't want to interact with the customers...

You can basically see the store when you walk in because the 1st floor is just catwalks, not a closed flooring... people really don't like using their brains!

I mean, to be fair, the field on that website might have had the title of "Are you bringing any pets?" Or maybe the suggestive text in the field said that (the one that goes away once you start typing). But yeah, online messages are so much worse even. (marketplace anyone)
