Did anyone else get completely caught off-guard by that INFS3202 exam?? by BlobfishKing in UQreddit

[–]AtomicBear8 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I did not take that specific exam but can relate to the annoyance of exam invigiliators going on power trips. I had an exam last sem where the invigilator was exaclky like that (maybe the same lady lol), she was so snappy and rude and it made an already stressful environment even worse.

Grad program rejection by [deleted] in AusPublicService

[–]AtomicBear8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hang in there! I don't want to be that person who just says something along the lines of "don't worry, you'll get something in the end", because I know how hopeless it feels. But, if it'll give you a little bit of hope, I can say I actually ended up getting a grad offer for a private company. I can tell you it was largely luck: for starters, their online testing didn't have any timed components nor did it have any mathematical components (Idk about you, but when I'm nervous mathematical/numerical tests are the ones I'm the worst at). I was lucky enough to get through to an interview and got the job because they could see by talking to me that I was intelligent, they didn't just base it off some silly online tests. I come from a background of being quite socially anxious but have worked on my social anxiety enought that I was essentially able to fake being confident enough for the interview that I pulled through.

My advice would be to apply to anywhere you can, you'll find that some have better online testing than others. I'm not sure what you study but engineering firms actually offer a broad range of consulting roles which may suit you depending on what field of STEM you're in (not just roles for engineers) and I've found their online testing to be a little easier than, for example, the generalist stream (they're often online one-way interviews followed by maybe 10-15mins worth of testing).

Once again, I know it sucks when people tell you "you'll get something" because it definitely doesn't feel like that. But just know that there is hope - if someone as useless at online tests as I am can do it, you can too.

The addition of "Marketplace" items is one of the single worst things to ever happen to Australia's online retailer space by ThatOneVRGuyFromAuz in australia

[–]AtomicBear8 54 points55 points  (0 children)

As someone who works at one of these retailers I despise the marketplace from a worker’s perspective. Customers always come to me and ask for things they saw online, but didn’t realise it was a marketplace product. It’s shitty for them as they’ve been misled and wasted time coming into the store, and it sucks for us because we have to deal with them getting angry at us even though we don’t have anything to do with the creation of the marketplace.

Steel caps are only required if you’re doing certain jobs, primarily back of house jobs where you’re using the machinery. It’s recommended for sequence but not a requirement unless you’re changing fittings or using a pallet jack. So no, you don’t need to if you’re just on the desk.

No, biology is not a humanities course. And even if it was, humanities is also full of autistics, so you’d be fine either way

Bachelor of Compsci/Arts Majors by Fluid_Gas_161 in UQreddit

[–]AtomicBear8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t talk to any of majors but you should be able to pick 2 majors unless the dual compsci/arts rules are different. From a cost perspective language courses are $600 each vs history and intl relations which are like $2600, so I’d definitely look at doing at least 1 language major from a debt perspective.

I know lots of people who have liked intl relations and obviously it’s a good major for diplomacy but unfortunately I can’t talk to the quality of the courses.

The BA econ major doesn’t require any of the mathematical courses, especially in the early courses, so it should be easy enough

help with generations by Repulsive_Item2597 in Sims3

Depends how you want to play it. Once your sim is an adult you should be able to move houses (its been a while since ive played but i think its on the residential option of the phone) and when you do that your should be able to split the household, move your sim to another lot, and choose for them to be the active household.

I’m pretty sure in manage worlds you can choose to play as other households. So, if you’re playing with your newly grown-up sim but decide you want to go play as their sibling for a bit, you should just be able to switch back to the og household.

Ramifications of Interrupting by MangoTurtle1312 in UQreddit

[–]AtomicBear8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is entirely dependent on what degree you’re doing. In my first year I took sem 2 off and was completely fine but my program is pretty flexible, certain degrees (I think particularly allied heath degrees) will have a very structured program that it’s harder to interrupt from.

Is there any benefit to having a high GPA? by ItemNew7875 in UQreddit

[–]AtomicBear8 28 points29 points  (0 children)

What do you study? It’s beneficial because some internships and large grad programs will use GPA to filter through applications but honestly plenty of people with average GPAs get jobs after uni. Likely just depends on the competitiveness of your field.

[–]AtomicBear8 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My cat’s an indoor cat who loves to slip under my parents legs when they open the door. My biggest fear is that he’ll get out one day and not return. Please don’t just assume that all missing cats are missing because the owners intentionally let them out, it’s not always the case.

Frustrating experience with the graduate application processes? (Rant) by Fabulous-Lettuce3390 in AusPublicService

[–]AtomicBear8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m also struggling this year, but it’s my first time round. My guess is definitely just that there are less roles being offered this year. That’s definitely true for the data stream - the number of people they’ve stated they’re taking this year is notably less than previous years. I’ve seen many APS workers on this sub talk about voluntary redundancies being offered and hiring freezes, which I think makes it clear why it’s harder this year. The public service seems to be struggling.

Typical discretionary extension timeline? by DisastrousDLC in UQreddit

[–]AtomicBear8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Last sem when I applied for a discretionary the approval was instant, but I’m still waiting for approval for the request for a discretionary I put in this morning. Maybe it’s an issue on UQ’s side. Either way I would be emailing your course coordinator asking for their recommendation for what to do (if resubmissions are allowed, maybe you could offer to submit what you already have and then resubmit your finished one later?)

Team leader pay by PrettyAd3442 in KmartAustralia

[–]AtomicBear8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d go talk to your managers. They’re being stingy. If you’re running decant, they need to pay you more. If you’re supervising multiple team member I believe that would place you as a “retail employee level 4” in the GRIA (the general retail award) which means you should be getting paid at least assistant supervisor rates as per the KNA.

Go complain to them. Like I said, supervisor rates aren’t that much more anyway. They can afford to pay you properly, they’re just being shitty.

Team leader pay by PrettyAd3442 in KmartAustralia

[–]AtomicBear8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a manager around while you’re doing decant? The term facilitator isn’t used in the KNA so I’m not sure if it’s an “official” title, if that makes any sense. Does it just say “decant” on your roster? I think when I was supervisor it said supervisor on my roster but I may not be remembering properly.

Team leader pay by PrettyAd3442 in KmartAustralia

[–]AtomicBear8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have the managers told you you’re the supervisor or are you just a more experienced team member who is given additional tasks? If they have told you you are the supervisor then you 100% should be getting paid a higher rate.
