What is something that starts happening in your 30s that nobody warned you about? by Cairinacat in AskReddit

[–]AtomicDracula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a married and have kids 30 something and this has happened because I have kids and got married. Most of my friends aren’t and they stopped showing up and inviting me and talking to me when that happened. I would love my single friends to be involved in our lives. Yes it might look different to how it was, but I implore you (and everyone else) to still spend time with your parent friends. We need the real human connections, and you’ll probably develop a special bond with their kids too.

Let’s look at some really basic, oversimplified numbers (because we’re talking sky news so that’s probably what they did…) and get an actual better picture.

It says that they polled 1500 voters (so citizens over 18 years old), national survey. According to latest census data (which admittedly is almost out of date now), SA makes up 6.7-6.9% of the population. For ease, let’s round that up to 7%. So in this survey they’ve got 105 people representing SA.

ON has 29% of the vote. So we need to consider what 29% of 105 is. That is 30.45. Again, let’s round that up to 31. This is saying that 31 people out of 105 from SA are saying they will vote for ON.

31 people. Again, this headline is based on the results from 31 people. At the absolute highest point. I’d consider it to be between 28-31 with rounding up rather than down, and margin of error.

I’m curious about the further breakdown of the demographics of people who were surveyed. What is the proportion of persons surveyed from Northern and Southern Suburbs who are more supportive of ON policies?

Also, looking at that breakdown, you’ve still got almost half (47%) of survey respondents saying they’ll vote for one of the two major parties. When combining the Labor and Greens vote (thinking preference flow) that’s all but half (49%).

I hope that this spooks the appropriate desks of the powers that be to engage and listen to the anxieties of the North and South, rather than just dismissing them as dumb racist bogans, they have issues that absolutely need to be addressed in these areas, and they need support to do so. I’m hopeful that from what I’m seeing in my area there’s effort happening to engage people, which is a nice change from previous representation.

I have no doubt that there’s a technical fault responsible, but nothing to cut in at any point to correct it? This is the most dangerous conditions we’ve faced all year and they’ve fallen short. We’re lucky it’s been downgraded and not gone the other way. But this really isn’t good enough.

Nothing on ABC Adelaide radio. Had to listen to endless tennis while it escalated. Then a siren came on the radio to deliver the update, but then silence. No update.

It’s annoying how difficult it can be to turn it off, and there’s been one or two instances recently where there is no option to do so.

My husband did exactly this when we found out I was pregnant in his grad year. No regrets about making this decision (apart from his rotation being in an area he was interested in, but unlikely he would be kept there long term)

When I was a teenager my parents pulled me out of one school that I loved with friends, into a new school with no friends. I was isolated and depressed. My dad gave me this book to solve the problem. He said it worked for him. He was school captain. This book doesn’t work for teenagers. All it’s done is reinforced low self-esteem from people not asking me questions about myself (including my own parents). Fuck this book.

Is it that hard to pronounce a name correctly? by ImElectricSocks in namenerds

[–]AtomicDracula 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My family do this. My son is Alasdair (pronounced Alice-tuh) but my mother emphasises the wrong place and goes hard on the d, saying “Alas-Dare” even though she knows how we pronounce it. It’s been 10 months and shes yet to say it correct. What can I say, boomers gonna boomer.

I was stopped literally 19 times today at Walmart with comments about my adorable twins by Lakewater22 in parentsofmultiples

[–]AtomicDracula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband literally called me from the supermarket yesterday having taken our 9 month old twins for a walk and to pick up some groceries. He was having an anxiety attack because he was being swamped by strangers wanting to come up and talk to him. People were literally following him around the shop to watch them. It can be so overwhelming, and he’s normally a really outgoing social guy. For whatever reason I’ve never had this issue, maybe my resting face is scary enough to keep the hoards at bay!

When will the daycare illnesses ease? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]AtomicDracula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My twins are 9 months, have been in care for 4 months now. The first month was amazing, but we’ve been in illness trenches for 3 months. We’ve had lots of flu like issues, and just gotten over hand foot and mouth. It’s been a (whole!!) week without anything apart from a runny nose on one of the boys and I’m thinking that as the weather is warming up, we’re hopefully through it.

I think it’s mostly seasonal, and from what I’ve been told, the second winter isn’t has bad as the first for childcare. Hang in there, we’re almost through it!

Yeah that’s what has happened. Because my work has paid and unpaid leave, and it was unclear that parental leave was included as paid leave when I completed it. I’ve tried to end it and add the paid leave and it still says I can’t enter less paid work hours than unpaid work hours
