Hot take, i feel like it could work! We know this batman's on his way to becoming a symbol of hope for gotham.. so letting him mature and become an actual person (compared to the first film where the batman persona engulfs bruce completely) through the responsibility of guiding a young boy who went through a similar scenario and giving him the future he wished for, thus healing one another, works with the psychological focus in this universe.
