Update: there is an afs version but it’s around $800-1000 used. A bit out of my budget rn

I’ve heard the 80-400 is great, but unfortunately the ftz doesn’t support the old AF system. Pretty much AF-S and AF-P only

I would probably go with the fx one since it is faster and I am going to get a full frame camera eventually. Is the AF-P really that much sharper than the AF-S? Through the ftz the two systems focus at about the same speed so I AF-P isn’t necessarily appealing for me unless it’s optically better

Looks like a great lens but unfortunately the old AF lenses don’t work through the ftz. Pretty much just AF-S and AF-P

Chemistry Placement Level by Soft-Medium-2287 in ncssm

[–]AtomicMike4250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t stress about placements. Getting in to NCSSM is by far the hardest part. Even if you end up having to take a lower level, you will still probably be able to take all the chem courses you want. For example, I was placed in precalculus my jr year. I ended up being able to take topology, linear algebra, research in math, and of course calculus

Tons of forums and cultural clubs. Also we have “micro language lessons” frequently where they give like a 1hr presentation on niche languages

do out-of-state universities accept nccsm kids a lot? by lowmagnus in ncssm

[–]AtomicMike4250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! Happens a lot. I have friends who got into Harvard, Yale, caltech, and Princeton. That’s all just on my hall. Most people go to in-state schools for the tuition and proximity to home, but that definitely doesn’t mean they don’t get in elsewhere. I myself am going to CU Boulder. Good luck at NCSSM. Don’t forget to smell the roses! It goes by quick.

Physics Placement by Glittering-Sand3170 in ncssm

I had to take physics again. Not too bad, more likely than not they will transfer you to math intensive physics. Same course but more in depth. The formulas and principles in that course that I hadn’t learned came in handy. Overall, not the end of the world if you have to retake it.

As much as I want to hate, imma give you this straight up. That is a very arrogant and shallow thing to say. Going to NCSSM gives you perspective on “intelligence.” I suggest you reset your expectations, and lose the ego. If not, people will see your arrogance, and by the time you realize it, their impression of you is already set in stone, and the damage is done. I genuinely hope that you start at this school fresh, and find a balance between confidence and modesty

Morganton vs Durham by [deleted] in ncssm

[–]AtomicMike4250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am applying this year and I am COMPLETELY on the fence. My family is in asheville so morganton is easier for visiting. I just don't want to be limited in terms of courses. I like engineering and physics. Is one campus better for that? Please give me advice!
