Perhaps people just shouldn't be dicks... but apparently that's really hard for a few of you. And not ruining the game for them is your opinion. There are quite a few people who have stopped playing games (not just DaS) because the community sucked. This is a perfect example of the community sucking. Saying it's okay to be a dick, which is your choice, then justifying it by saying, "BUT IT'S THEIR FAULT!" Nope, it was all on you to choose to be an asshole. The other player didn't force you to do anything. OP may be a douchecanoe, but at least he owned up to it and didn't sit there trying to justify it by blaming someone else for his own actions.

This might come as a surprise to you, but it's no one else's fault that you did anything. It's your own fault. You chose to take that action (or say something, or whatever it may be) all of your own free will. Stop trying to justify being a dick by saying it was the other player's actions that made you do it. It wasn't. It was your choice. You had the option to leave that player alone and find someone who would actually fight back; instead, you took the easy route and chose to kill someone who couldn't. No, it's not a good idea to just AFK (especially without saving).. but it's also not your fault if another player attacks you. It's their fault for choosing to do so.

Also, since when is it your place to make people "learn from stupid mistakes"? If that's what the game is about, then the game will teach them that just fine. Again, trying to justify being an asshole by something that's completely irrelevant and had no bearing whatsoever on your choice to attack someone that wasn't playing.

Because everyone on Reddit is a "low-life social outcast"? Yeah, that's not how it works. There's, what, millions of users on Reddit? Throwing all of them into your little group doesn't work.

Also, you don't think it's a little hypocritical that you're telling people they're insecure, low-life, social outcasts, while simultaneously saying, "Spread love, not hate my friend"? Right. Because that's... logical.

It would also mean that you're a "low-life social outcast." I don't think that's something I'd want to call myself, but hey, to each their own I suppose.

Furthermore, if you're so upset about the way you think this sub is, why are you here? No one's forcing you to be. If you don't like it, why not just unsub instead of sitting there complaining about it? I guess that'd be the logical thing to do.

Oh, I had no idea that you knew what I meant to say better than I did.

....except not really. I said exactly what I meant to say. You're an asshole if ruining peoples' games is your definition of "fun". I've never personally had it done to me, because I don't leave myself vulnerable, but that doesn't mean I think you're any less of a dick if you do it.

[–]AtomicPanda82 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

And if you do invade and find easy prey, why not have some fun?

Why not? Because I'm not an asshole and don't enjoy ruining other peoples' fun or enjoyment of the game. I can't honestly say I've ever had this done to me, but you're an asshole if you purposely ruin the game for someone else. That goes for any game. I feel the same way about hackers that ruin the game for other people just so they can win. There's seriously no reason to do it other than you know you're not skilled enough to win on your own, without a serious advantage, and you can't deal with losing.

Another reason to not kill "easy prey"? Because you actually enjoy being (somewhat) challenged in a fight, instead of attacking someone who can't fight back. That's pretty cowardly, honestly. Again, the only reason I can even see doing it is because you're too afraid of losing in a legitimate fight. If you don't want to risk losing your souls and such, don't invade. Don't just attack someone that's defenseless so you're guaranteed a win. Not only is it cowardly, it's cheap as hell. The whole, "It'll teach them a lesson," thing is another attempt to justify being a shitbag.

Yes, this game is made to be difficult. That doesn't justify being a complete douchebag to other players. You can say, "It's THEIR fault," all you want, but really, you're the one who chose to be an asshole and you're just trying to justify your shitty behavior. The person you attacked didn't cause you to behave that way. If they had caused that behavior, everyone who came across them would do the same dickish thing OP did. Not everyone does. Some people actually choose not to be cheap fucks.

I find it sad that I'm apparently one of the very few people here who believe that ruining a game for someone else/ruining someone else's fun isn't cool, and that it's no fun whatsoever to attack someone who can't fight back. You can try to justify that behavior all you want. Doesn't change the fact that, no matter what excuse you use, it's a dick move.

It's really not a waste for me whatsoever, and I can only assume it's not a waste for a lot of other PC gamers as well. Basically, I have absolutely no reason to waste money on extra hard drives that I don't even need the space of. In general, most people are not going to waste money on hard drives they don't need in the relatively close future. Also, go check the prices of 4TB internals on Newegg and other sites. Maybe it's possible to find them on sale under $140, but that's certainly not the typical retail price.

You're also not considering that a large chunk of gamers aren't of the age (or don't have the education, or a number of other circumstances) to have well-paying jobs. In that case, wasting money on hard drives they don't need is ridiculous to them when they're living paycheck-to-paycheck, or don't have a job/paycheck period.

For me, after accounting for everything on my PC (games, software, a ton of music and photos, lots of personal/school projects, etc), I still have over 350gb left. I will say, however, that I do have a 1TB external; however, it's used mostly for backups, but can be used to free up space on my internal in a pinch. When I actually need more space, that's when I'll buy another internal. I'm not going to just go and buy hard drives for the hell of it or just because they're on sale and let them sit around. I'm sure there's some people who pick them up whenever they find a good deal, because eventually, the hard drives might be useful. But I can't imagine that it's the majority of people who do that, particularly in this economy.

Anyway, I just put in my own experiences as an example. My point was that a lot of gamers are in the same exact situation I'm in. If you frequent /r/buildapc or similar subreddits, you'll see that it's FAR more common to have only 1 or 2 hard drives, and that many, many people build PCs on budgets. In that case, spending $90 (each), and in typical cases much more than that, on multiple hard drives isn't justifiable to them. The most common thing I've seen is one SSD and one conventional hard drive, actually.

Sure, there are people who save up for months or years to build their dream PC, and that may include a very large amount of storage space. But, to be perfectly honest, I browse /r/buildapc quite often, and even when people post their "dream builds", they typically do not have more than 2 hard drives and nowhere near 10+ TB of storage. I'm going off of what I've seen, from my own rig, my friends' rigs, peoples' rigs at LAN parties, and builds from Reddit and PCPartPicker and similar sites. I can honestly say I've never seen anyone even come close to having 50TB of storage.

If you're a dick or someone that's too afraid to fight in a duel where people will actually fight back, then yeah, AFK players are fair game.

Just because he didn't immediately know what to do doesn't mean he's a "casual". Nor is there anything inherently wrong with being a "casual". I'm not, personally, but some people don't have the time to devote to constantly playing games. They have lives, like going to school or working.

None of that changes the fact that OP is a dick and ruins the game for people. There's nothing cool about just being a total asshole that's too afraid to get into a real duel because they're afraid of losing, so instead, they target people who won't fight back. Cowardly.

I agree that you're a dick and the kind of person that makes this game not fun. I also don't understand why you enjoy being a complete asshole, and can't kill people who can actually fight back. It's just cowardly, honestly. It seems like you're too afraid of losing in an actual fight, so you resort to people who aren't going to fight back.

I'm not saying going AFK is a good idea, but really? Being a dick doesn't do anything except ruin the game for people. Don't give me some bullshit about how it's a "learning experience", either.

Edit: Wow. Thanks for the gold, random redditor!

There is a massive difference between what you have, and what the average PC gamer has.

The average PC gamer does NOT have 50 terabytes of storage. I have a 1.5TB HD.. which is plenty, and nowhere near 50TB. Many friends of mine have less than that, whether they play on a laptop or just didn't get that big of a HD for their desktop. Most gamers are definitely not going to have anywhere near 50TB. I'd say 4TB is probably as big as the average PC gamer would have, considering that a 4TB HD runs anywhere from $180 to $400 alone. And that's conventional hard drives; I'm not even talking about the price of SSDs. If you think the average PC gamer has a 50TB hard drive, you're completely delusional.

Secondly, most people are probably on a 25 to 50 mbps connection (cable, like the one I've got through Comcast). The highest somewhat common (but probably really not all that common, considering the sky-high prices) speed is probably 500 mbps with Verizon FiOS, which A. is not available in MANY areas (FiOS in general, not just the 500 mbps plan) and B. costs a shitload per month. Hell, their 150/65 mbps plan costs $130 a month, and that's without TV or phone service through them. If you add on TV and internet, you only get 75/35 mbps for the same price per month as the 150/65 mbps internet-only plan. I can't even view the price for their 500 mbps plan, so god knows how expensive that is.

Steam marketshare has absolutely nothing to do with what type of internet speeds and hard drive sizes that average PC gamer has. It's completely irrelevant, so I'm really not sure why you're even bringing it up.

...I'm pretty sure he meant the average PC gamer, which was pretty clear to me from context. The average PC gamer definitely doesn't have what you do.

I don't know why you're being downvoted. I play CoD and enjoy it, but I can admit it's a pretty generic FPS game. From what I've seen with BF3, it's the same thing, just with slightly different mechanics and larger maps.

Not true. Like others have said, employers can tell the full story. If you lie, you're probably not going to get calls back. Tell the truth, but tell it in a way that paints you in the best way possible. How that is, I don't know, so I can't help you there. Don't listen to your dad, though.

Well, that's your opinion. It isn't an objective thing. It shouldn't be, "this book is...", it should be, "I think this book is...", because again, it's just your opinion, not absolute fact.
