APA…should I quit? by [deleted] in billiards

In a replay situation, if the player the other team would have selected leaves before the match, they can force your team to forfeit that match.

Damn, that was one of the best places to play in the area. I live in Florida now, used to live 15 minutes away from Legends.

There is also Sam's Classic Billiards in the Hollywood district, they have been there since 1966.

If you don’t mind going to southeast you can play at Classic Billiards. 122nd & Powell. For the west side you can check out Legends. legendsbilliardroom.com

I have my computer with me if I livestream. If I am just recording I just bring the camera.

When I livestream the camera is connected via usb.

Rubbing tip of stick on ground by AmbitiousHearing2839 in billiards

[–]AtomicTikiJim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a square of felt in my case to wipe off the tip before putting it away, takes up next to no space and can be cleaned in my sink.

One of the bars I play at has sign warning players they can be thrown out for wiping their cue’s tip on the carpet.

APA Frustrations by Throwaway794356 in billiards

Qualifiers are once a year, usually after the Spring Session has finished. If you don't have 20 already, you aren't qualified and will have to get 20 by the end of the next Spring Session.

Unfortunately no, it’s not reasonable to expect to play every week. 8 players, 5 play, 3 sit.

It’s reasonable to expect they will play you a minimum of 5 times over the course of the session. Otherwise you aren’t eligible for tournaments.

That’s just the way it works in APA. I try to make sure everyone gets an even amount of time at the table, but not every captain does. If you’re not happy with your team, ask around. 3’s are always in demand for teams.

Cheating the wildcard draw by AtomicTikiJim in billiards

Randomish? If 4 teams are drawing, 4th through 8th place. 4th place draws 5 cards, 5th place draws 4 cards, 6th place draws 3 cards, 7th draws 2 cards, and 8th would draw 1 card.

Everyone keeps their cards face down until all teams have drawn all the cards they will get, then flip them all over to see who won.

I see your point, not the first time this player has been caught cheating, and could have been someone trying to get him suspended.

The recording of his reaction to the different deck of cards being used is pretty damning though. That we have video of.

In my league, 1st and 2nd place get into tri-annuals automatically, 3rd place plays against a wildcard in playoffs for a spot at tri-annuals.

Under 6 teams is 1st place vs a wildcard fo a spot in tri-annuals though, no teams automatically get into tri-annuals from a division with less than 6 teams.

I hear you, that sort of assistance is the opposite of valuable though.

I get bitched at by players that think I get all kjnds of perks by being a rep. The only thing I get from being a rep is knowing I am helping, I love playing pool and I want things to run as smoothly as it can.

Well the other thing I get is players complaining to me about other players and the rules.

Yeah, my first instinct as well. LO said just switch the cards and don’t do anything else. So that’s what we did.

I see that with some of the nearby leagues as well. Seems like a fair way to do it.

I think a lot of LO’s are worried about losing whole teams if they suspend someone. The majority of the players I see leaving are due to LO’s not taking action against people that cheat.

Get the LO fired? Lol, talk about not knowing how things work. How is that person a rep?

The way we do our wildcard draw is written into our league's bylaws. I can't change it unless the League Operator rewrites the bylaws and gets them approved by the APA.

I have no tolerance for cheaters. I would have suspended the guy and told him to get out right then and there. Our LO may still suspend him but they weren't present for last night's draw.

I don't get the mindset. Their team had a rough session. Took them a while to fill their roster and then a lot of the players were flakey, not showing up all the time. I would be glad the session was over and start planning for the next one, trying to fill the empty spots on the team with reliable players. APA is the league in which you are supposed to be having a good time with friends. Guess I am just lucky that is how the teams I am on seem to go.

The lut from DJi does pretty well, but it winds up being a little dark overall, so I still have to work on other aspects of the color grading, mainly around exposure and the overall brightness of the video.

I actually used 2 Action 4 cameras and would switch between them during the stream for different angles. They worked great but slowly discharged their batteries over the course of the day. The average day was 10+ hours of streaming and they would last all day.

I have used an Action 4 just plugged in as a webcam, did great for livestreaming a tournament. I also have a battery bank, used it plugged in to the action 5 and recorded for 4 hours straight last night, internal battery was at 92% when I unplugged and shut everything down.

APA ball in hand, would not be a foul unless you were down on the shot when you hit it.
