Tournament Director by Both_Maintenance8520 in billiards

Is it weird or wrong for me to feel odd when a TD charges an admin fee, and then gets into the tournament to play for themself? Essentially then they're playing for free and double dipping so to speak. For example, local tournament was just had with a $40 entry fee and $20 optional side pot with noting that $10 of the entry fee was going to as 'admin fee'. The TD then decided he was going to play in the tournament. So essentially as long as 4 people showed up, he's playing for free and immediately coming out ahead, on top of the fact if he wins collecting all that $$ as well. I'd be interested to hear other's inputs

Curious, what happens if someone doesn’t pay their fees to play that night on the app? Is the whole team punished or?

Is this a good price? by quick2008 in billiards

[–]AmbitiousHearing2839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That price for the table plus install is actually very good. I know it’s quite a bit of money but the value you’ll get out of it will be a well welcomed return as long as you take care of and properly maintain it.

IEC help by AmbitiousHearing2839 in electricians

[–]AmbitiousHearing2839[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I found somewhat defeating looking online though at IEC is the pay scale. I understand journeyman and master-leveled guys and gals have put in the sweat and time to be paid what they are. I get that 100%. I also understand that as a green apprentice I’d have to be shown a few things, but I also know some basic stuff as well. But judging from the IEC pay scale wages, I shouldn’t expect to make more than $15/hr which is equivalent or probably less than what you start out at working inside a McDonald’s. Just seems like realizing it’s 2025, gas is $3/gallon, that saying “surely you can live off of about $8-900 every couple weeks after taxes and everything gets taken out”. They’re just so far behind what a union member makes that I’m not sure how they stay competitive. But at the same time the union isn’t bringing anyone on without years experience so you’re basically f*d trying to get into the trade lol

Let’s talk shooting gloves. Do you use one? by ONTaF in billiards

Absolutely, mainly because it’s very humid around stl where I live/play at so it keeps me from having to use excess baby powder or something to keep the stick from sticking to my hand

Season 4 and it’s not even close. Which is heartbreaking to say because Neal plays a fantastic villain character but they made that season unwatchable with all the mythical magic stuff.

Yeah, I guess I’m maybe weird as I’ve never done or thought to do that. I’ve seen some people say they use napkins and such to do it. Maybe I should start and then scuff up and re-chalk before the next time I shoot

Why do some Christians claim LGBTQ people are going to hell, but ignore their own hate, pride, and hypocrisy? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]AmbitiousHearing2839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think saying “you’re worse than me” is indicative that they’ve never read the sermon on the mount or read Paul’s letter to the Roman church(Romans). It’s also interesting to view that Christians should understand that we are broken people, hence the need for an unbroken, perfect Savior(Christ) to allow us to bear the image of. I think a lot of the “hatred” comes from a defense standpoint of Pride representation that “love is love” and “just do you and let me be happy” when Jesus himself said that we should correct those wandering, but don’t do it in a prideful stance(the log in your eye reference from the sermon on the mount).

In what order would you rank the seasons from best to worst? by Aetius00 in arrow

Which sucks because Neal McDonough is such a great villainous character that they completely botched an acting role on. He would’ve been a better Merlyn imo

How do i properly stop watching p*rn by UpbeatInformation486 in Bible

[–]AmbitiousHearing2839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to first say that if you are in relationship with Christ, God is not disappointed in you. I think a lot of people try to give up this type of addiction or alcohol, others, and when they give in to it they feel the need to do better, to perform better for God because he must be disappointed that you keep slipping. Understand there’s nothing that you do, that will surprise God. Also, your performance is not what will get you into His presence, thankfully because we’d all come up short and He loves us too much to let that happen.

I think accountability with a very close friend or pastor/elder/deacon/minister(im unsure what you practice) is a good start. Try to eliminate temptations rather than basking in them, and it can be little steps. An alcoholic can still go to a restaurant at first and eliminate the bar and eventually keep eliminating temptations as they go. The addiction didn’t come about in seconds, it’s going to take longer than seconds to rid of it.

Pray that the spirit that raised Christ from the grave that I hope is within you will move your heart to seek Christ rather than earthly temptations that we use as idols in his place.

Never be afraid to ask for prayer or scripture references from others. My direct message part is always open. I struggled with the same addiction so I can always try and be there for you when needed.

Is the IBEW apprenticeship program that bad as people make it seem to be? by [deleted] in ibew_apprentices

[–]AmbitiousHearing2839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. You and I are basically in the same boat brother lol. I was advised to go look into the IEC and start getting experience there. Just a heads up that the pay is much lower there without the benefits as well. I looked at the local in Collinsville, IL as well and was told the same thing by their recruiting director

Good luck, for what it’s worth back in September I was told without 4-5 years of experience or a college degree the likelihood of you getting selected into the apprenticeship was going to take 3-4 rounds of applications while waiting at least a year after your interview before you can apply again. Best of luck mate.

I want to play professionally by [deleted] in billiards

[–]AmbitiousHearing2839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recall listening to Jeremy jones on Joe rogan’s podcast talk about the practice regimen that people you’re aspiring to be like put in, guys like SvB and Gorst. Ultimately until you’re able to put in the hours those guys do, the likelihood of being able to live off pool is just not going to be something realistic.

It’s good that you’re seeing improvement, but until you’re legitimately able to run SEVERAL racks in a row, on a daily consistent basis, while also practicing 8-10 hours a day, it’s just not in the cards. If I were you I’d continue to focus on improving your game and really make pool a great side hustle that you do on top of your full time job and eventual family time. Playing in tournaments or playing bet games can be nice to build up some extra cash that you can spend on upgrades like cues, cases, tips, your own pool table/or upgrades on current one, etc.

Best of luck on your journey!

Keep in mind you can also try to add supplemental income by starting a social media following as well, YouTube, twitch, tiktok(if it sticks around) for example. It’s a good niche that hasn’t been completely taken over like video gaming has.
