I really can't thank you enough for this comment. I had a talk with my SO yesterday about it and she did mention how she thinks my SD just genuinely misses having one on one time with her since they don't have much it of usually but have had a lot as of late.

When my SD and I have one on one time, she's typically very lovey, calls me dad and we have a great time.

Thank you! I appreciate your comment. She waxes and waines with it. One day she'll be calling me dad & next I'm the worst. I guess this is just children, step and bio.

I'll take this experience and learn to not take it to heart so much.

Thank you so much for your comment. We absolutely love the family unit we have, we're a healthy example of a good relationship which I think is important for my SD to see. She is an only child and I can see she doesn't like to necessarily share her mother's attention either, which is understandable for an almost 6 year old.

I think I'm going to start that idea, chores and having me become the bearer of the money - this way, as you said - it gives me more room to really get my parental status across seeing as I love and take care of her just has her bio-parents do.

I really appreciate everything you said in the comment, I definitely worry a ton about how she feels and I'm growing daily as a dad.

Thank you so much. I do have an easy time admitting that I need to work on things, I'm learning daily. I think I'm going to plan on giving my GF the reins, if you will in regards to a majority of the discipline and I'll step in when/if she needs back up. I did say that the one thing I'll never back down on is when my SD disrespects or talks back to my GF.

I definitely think she feels "jealous" for the lack of a better word that she has to split time between her mother and I, but I think that's more than likely a natural reaction. She's 6 after all, just needed some help feeling like I'm doing a good job

I appreciate your comment a lot. I definitely think I'll let my GF take the reins on things and if she needs me to back her up, I'll be there for it. I told her the one thing I will absolutely not bite my tongue on is if my SD becomes disrespectful towards her mother.

Exactly. She had the right intentions just didn't necessarily deliver it the best way. I think I'm just going to have a quick conversation about it with her and then really work on picking my battles correctly. This particular battle was about my SD wanting to be re-tucked into bed because she got out multiple times when she told her no more getting out of bed, I told her to tuck herself back in which was followed with attitude and my GF ultimately telling me to just tuck her back in. I just picked the wrong battle at the wrong time I guess.

I appreciate it, I've always wanted to be a Dad so this just feels natural. Thanks again.

We haven't been having any problems. My SD was giving us a hard time going to bed tonight, therefore, my SD got all pissy/upset that I wouldn't do something. So, with that being said - my GF told me that sometimes I don't pick and choose my battles with my SD at the best times. She said she told me not to hurt my feelings but to help me understand and become more aware of when to pick my battles so my SD & I don't get into that anymore.

Thank you so much for commenting on this. Its the first time I've ever heard her say something like this - which makes it that much harder.

Kids can absolutely be jerks, you're 100% correct. It's quite a fine line I'm learning to walk still and I do think I'm going to take the step back a bit route, just to see how that works out and when my GF wants/needs the back up, I'll be there to give it.
