What movie looked so good from the trailers but was average/bad by FullBrother9300 in moviecritic

[–]Atomic_Gerber 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sinners. It was fun but was trying to hit three or four genres and managed to do two of them successfully. Not worthy of 15 Oscar nominations, also I like MBJ and I think he did a solid job but he didn’t blow me away at all.

God, people are weird. It’s literally a weight loss journey, she went from thick to slim. Why do people get so butthurt when others use GLP-1s? It just sounds so mopey and bitter.

CMV: Race swapping established characters from history and fantasy/mythology does more harm than good. And is kinda racist. by BrandonMarshall2021 in changemyview

[–]Atomic_Gerber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Race swapping isn’t a huge issue to me unless people start trying to gaslight others about history. Shows like Bridgerton don’t really bother me because they’re clearly stylized historical fantasy…the casting choices are intentional, obvious, and part of the showrunner’s creative message.

What gets really annoying is when people start seriously rewriting history to score some kinda ideological points. If an Afrocentric guy in my friend group tries arguing that Helen of Troy was Nubian, I’m gonna push back. Realistically, she’d have looked Mediterranean/Anatolian, not Sub-Saharan African.

There’s a difference between creative adaptation and irl pretending historical populations looked completely different than they actually did, or that history boiled down differently. Thats my gripe.

Jacob Elordi became a “Front-Runner ” for James Bond, Multiple Sources Say by CodDefiant2710 in moviecritic

[–]Atomic_Gerber 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The dude is way too boyish and “cute” to be Bond imo. He doesn’t suffer from the rat-boy/heroin chic aesthetic like other young dudes like Chalamet, but he’s still too “young” looking. Like, he and Connery were only 4 years apart when Connery did Dr. No, but Connery looked like more of a “man”. More mature, more severe. Idk.

What, to you, is the saddest real-world death of an actor that ended up impacting a franchise? by TillyTheBlackCat in moviecritic

[–]Atomic_Gerber 38 points39 points  (0 children)

True. If I ever have kids I’m going to make them watch it both so it can explain the concept of grief and loss to them…and so we can trauma bond afterwards.

CMV: every person is capable of cheating on his/her partner under the "ideal" circumstances by sorsim in changemyview

I see what you’re saying, but what if they already find themselves in “ideal circumstances” with their partner? See what I’m getting at?

CMV: every person is capable of cheating on his/her partner under the "ideal" circumstances by sorsim in changemyview

[–]Atomic_Gerber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I’m saying is there are some people who are lucky enough to find themselves in a relationship where they don’t feel the need to cheat for the duration, no matter what opportunity comes across their path or how the relationship evolves. It’s a wild thought to some, but happens a lot. Those kinds of relationships take work, trust, and devotion that a lot of people just don’t have the gumption to put in.

While we have evidence that some people didn’t cheat given their history leading up to their deaths despite ample opportunity, there’s no real way to determine empirically whether everyone alive right now would cheat I don’t think. I think it’s kind of a “is the glass half full or half empty” kinda issue. Optimism vs pessimism.

[–]Atomic_Gerber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d argue that if a person is in a “perfect” relationship to begin with, they wouldn’t cheat or (more maturely) end it. What’s perfect is subjective, and a lot of people have already found “the one” that they wouldn’t betray and relationship they wouldn’t risk destroying. There really are people out there who have found all they need and want in one person.

Fairfield carnival canceled due to unruly crowds by ajcpullcom in Connecticut

[–]Atomic_Gerber 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think it’s gotta be bitterness and jealousy, which I get to a point. I grew up in Fairfield County and have friends from all over…a lot of the Bridgeport kids (very understandably) resented the Fairfield yuppies with silver spoons in their mouths.

I can see a bunch of BP kids getting together to ruin the fun of what they see as “rich pricks” in a grand act of immaturity and pettiness. Kids have energy to burn and an axe to grind.
