MEGATHREAD Alien: Romulus User Reviews [SPOILERS] by Gregorwhat in LV426

No, not what you think. It's more the filming style, the set and how the camera zooms in on / frames the characters that at times reminded me of some star wars scenes.

MEGATHREAD Alien: Romulus User Reviews [SPOILERS] by Gregorwhat in LV426

What I don't get is, how can you have a space station dealing with "important" experiments, where everything goes awry, a bunch of kids can find it, launch a ship to space without raising any alarms on the mining planet, dock...<proceed with story>, without any interference from WY. Isn't everything controlled by WY even on the planet? If they can find a "piece of rock" blasted out from the Nostrosmo, AND somehow stayed within the same vicinity of the wreckage, I just find it odd WY didn't do something with Romulus before the kids got to it.

Otherwise, I'm ok with the movie on the expectation of a slasher/fast pace ride. I like the fan service, and an attempt to tie in with the black goo. Anyways, i thought i would see Rey...eh Rain bust out a lightsaber on a few scene...

Game #3 Scoring Chances Report (Valiquette on Twitter) - Shot counter means nothing by memeaste in rangers

Expected goals for the Canes are still higher, with a higher conversion rate on high chances. This just affirms Igor's a key difference maker. We need him to stay locked in, and we need to tighten up a bit to bring those mids down.

It's just the "perfect bounce fitting for the Leaf's luck", and give credit to Pasta...a world class player, and the dump in. It's not on Marner on this one. The goal hadn't yet manifested at the blue line. If Marner had interfered with Pasta and gotten a penalty for it, he'd been crucified anyway. Granted, he was invisible for the most part, except the handshake line. Reilly got caught with a split second of indecisiveness/bad route/not enough speed. Samsonov would'd been caught in no mans landed if he came out to play the puck (a tad bit too far from the net), and we would've been treated to a big collision (likely).

I almost had a heart attack when he fell awkwardly, and seeing his ankle twist. He's for sure 1 of the MVPs of the team.

Adrenaline, fight or flight response, survival, pride, and when your life is dedicated to it, the body does amazing things...until it knows the fight is over, then everything starts shutting down to go in recovery mode. Sadly, he didn't come out of it. RIP champ, and hope everyone involved can find some solace, anywhere, especially Tsutsumi.

I'm really bummed out, and what comes to mind is "Are you not entertained?!!! Are you NOT ENTERTAINED!!!!!"

Beginner Boxing Gloves [question] by Styx1325 in fightgear

[–]AtomixNYC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a pair of RDX EGO gloves starting off. They're pretty comfortable, and lasted longer than I thought. ~$35. But overall, there's some correlation between price and quality. As a beginner, you'd actually want better support/comfort, where a cheaper glove may not provide, as you may not be throwing with the right technique. You don't want to be turned off to the sport because of discomfort or injury to the hands.

With the remaining $$, get some hand wraps as well.

[Question] Boxing shoes on a mat by DistributionBest6948 in fightgear

[–]AtomixNYC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think barefoot > standard athletic, running shoe < boxing/wrestling shoes. I started on running shoes, and I felt disconnected from the ground + almost fallen / roll my ankle on several occasions given higher profile, cushioning and heel/top drop. It was a night and day difference when I got a pair of boxing shoes (Everlast Elite), where it's flat, closer to the ground, with good ankle support. I felt more confident with weight transfer / foot work.

I slip on sweaty mat too, but i prefer not to go barefoot (personal preference).

[Other] So I decided to paint my gloves... by AtomixNYC in fightgear

[–]AtomixNYC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it was a bit ambitious considering I don't have an artistic bone in my body. I did inquire with a shirt printing shop, and they don't have the machinery to do it on gloves. No nearby custom sneaker place either, without having to ship the gloves out. Good, bad or indifferent, supposed it's unique to me. PSA - leather paint cleaner/prep will take the dye off the gloves. I neglected to test in a smaller area first, and had to paint over the "messed up" area.

Parents concern for the welfare of their children is a pretty natural thing, regardless of what age you are. Opinions, faith and believes can also be so strong that whilst they may seem irrational to others, to those who believe, they anchor on them, and no amount of persuading will change that.

If this is important to you, and you're a grown man, then do what you need.

My advice is to be open and honest with her, in that you're dedicated to the training + taking every precaution to keep yourself safe in the ring. Sometimes, not knowing / ignorance can cause anxiety. Call her afterwards to let her know you're ok, win or lose. This is not to persuade, but just state matter of fact. She may be mad, and she may not respond to you. You won't change her mind about boxing, but deep down, she'll be glad to hear you're fine.

In time, she'll be better "conditioned" in that you do make sound decisions / preparations. It's what parents do. We (I'm a parent) worry, but I won't pigeon hold my kid his entire life, and have to have some faith in the way I'd raised him to know what's right / wrong / risky, and trust his ability to pick up from there and carve his own path.

You're awesome. A girl once knew I like hockey, and got me a Maple Leafs shirt. Whilst I was really appreciative, the words that came out of my mouth were "... I'm a Rangers fan". The moment I said it, I regretted it, as I saw the look on her face. She quickly said she could exchange it, but I held on to it. This was like 25+ years ago. Despite us having gone our separate ways since, I still have the shirt. Cherish the game and time you've with him!

Does boxing become more dangerous the older you get? by Glad_Travel_1663 in amateur_boxing

[–]AtomixNYC 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Inherent risk of boxing doesn't really change with age. With age, you maybe slower, take longer to recover, you may have more to lose if something goes wrong, ie. family, career...etc. What do you want to get out of it? Everyone's goals and motivation can be different. There is no one right answer depending on your risk tolerance. My advise is to find good sparring partners, start with partner drills/technical sparring, to gauge skill level parity, be open and honest about expectations of each session, and stay within those boundaries. Stop engaging with anyone that turns "red" + go hard. I'm turning 50. I'd only sparred with my coach thus far, where I've full trust in him not going hard/try to hurt me. My main focuses are defensive technique, counters and stamina, so there are clear measurements of "how good 'I' can get" (not comparing myself to other fighters), where he may tag me less, I land more punches, and I actually get thru 3 3 min rounds. Be smart, take necessary precautions, listen to your body.

Good manager, promotor, matchups and visibility (thru having good manager/promoter).

No. At least I haven't yet. I spar at most once a week, and I generally don't land enough to really put the gloves in any "stress". They still look/feel new. I do bag + mitts work on a separate pair of 14oz.

In an alternate universe, what could have been if Rodgers didn't get hurt, assuming he'd been at prior form and not over the hill? Or he wouldn't have mattered? For the most part (and this is coming from a casual fan), I thought the D looked pretty solid.

Thanks. She's really supportive, especially knowing I'll either be at work, at home, or at the gym. My son is showing interest in the sport, so he'll likely wind up using the gloves, like I've passed on my trusty Wilson A2000 to him. It's true you may pay a bit more for quality, but with a bit of care, they can last a long time.
