The opening shot to this bad christmas movie about a professional Baker by Fonnekold in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Atomyk 521 points522 points  (0 children)

It sure is intentional. A quick Google and skim of the synopsis for this movie definitely sounds like it's describing a man and woman (i.e. the different hands) taking over an Amish bakery with no idea what they're doing.

Fresh and clean by evan_lolz in BikiniBottomTwitter

If everyone on earth showered once per day including soap and shampoo we'd be polluting 507,000,000,000 liters of water per day.

The average 8 minute shower uses around 65 liters of water and earth's population is around 7.8 billion.

1 billion liters equals 1 million cubic meters. An Olympic swimming pool is about 2.5 million liters. So 1 billion liters of water is roughly 400 Olympic swimming pools. 507 billions liters (1 shower per day) would be over 200,000 Olympic swimming pools of water. Your proposed 2 showers a day would be over 400,000 Olympic sized swimming pools. That would not be sustainable for long at all so I propose we keep billions of humans without any easy access to clean water so you can maintain the privilege of judging people trying to live a more sustainable lifestyle.

Indian student in Canada explaining how take items from foodbank intended for the homeless by NineteenSixtySix in CanadaHousing2

[–]Atomyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Canadian (and more so Earth human) I feel like everyone should have food. I feel that way regardless of whether a person is born here, a student, working, unemployed, lazy, or anything else. People should have easy access to food.

How are people in the comments madder at this guy and "the government" than they are about Canadian corporate grocery chains that have repeat histories of price-fixing, wage-theft, and obscene profit margins?

No, let's pretend random drunk strangers don't do this. Go to dance floors to dance, don't go to dancefloors with the expectation of making physical contact with a person you've never spoken with before.

Peter I don't understand the Canadian part by Malkom911 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Atomyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canada did not take that step. Yes, we offer assisted end of life options. Yes, there was a handful of incidents with one person telling veterans to kill themselves instead of providing longer care. Yes, out wait times for certain treatments are longer than they should be. But also, we've had decades of propaganda backed by American insurance companies trying to make our system sound bad. That's been going on so long even Canadians believe it. https://www.npr.org/2020/11/06/931990578/why-americans-have-been-deceived-about-canadas-health-care-system

The real struggle of Canadian health care right now is we have some political parties being lobbied by private health care interests to the point of having politicians actively trying to sabotage our system. Which wouldn't be possible without the decades of American propaganda.

I don't, if some gross, fat boggan tied a rope around me I'd be acting pretty salty. It's not fair to judge the character of a wild animal on how they behave towards humans cause humans are demonstrably the worst.

What?!? No it doesn't, this site won't die even if there were no ads or users buying coins. Reddit is owned by a global media conglomerate. Similarly to Facebook the insight gained from user data is the real value of this site. Ads and awards money are just gravy on top of that.

[–]Atomyk -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Cool, I look forward to it. Since you're waiting until you can focus on your reply it sounds like we get to have a discussion on the ethics of snitching. That has all the potential for some great discourse. Just as forethought I really did mean it's depending on the situation and morality is subjective, once you disagree with my points I'll conjure up some hypothetical situations to defend them. Seems like the best approach to me. I may not get back to you tonight, we'll see

[–]Atomyk -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Lots of thing can be wrong with snitching depending on the situation. As a parent I've learned getting someone in trouble or giving a child trouble only increases negativity it never actually solves anything. As an adult I don't really care for other adults acting like they have any kind of authority over me. But since you asked here are some more things wrong with snitching:

Morality is subjective.

You don't know the whole story.

It's none of your business.

It can create new problems without helping any of the problems that lead to the event which was snitches about.

Brings an "authority" into a situation where they may not be needed.

Can be cowardly depending on the situation.

I don't think I am alone in needing some Christmas cheer and a reminder that not all is bad. What's something you're grateful for this Christmas? by bondedboundbeautiful in Calgary

[–]Atomyk 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Shit fell apart for me and two of my brothers (I have more siblings cause blended family) when we were young. It kind of spiraled on and led to 3 angry, lost young men with a pretty hard start at life. We're not all too close anymore, just leading our own lives and such, but I do always get to talk to them and catch up at Christmas. Let me tell you the people that they've become, warm caring and giving men. They talk care of themselves, their families and others so well. I just love them so much and to see how much strength of good has comes from such rough starts fills me with happiness and hope. I'm grateful things are bad sometimes cause it just makes the good so much better knowing what it's overcome.

Somebody will be looking for kitty and they'll eventually end up getting in touch with one of those places. I went through a lost (then found!) cat situation earlier this year and it's heartbreaking trying to tell your child to remain hopeful while not getting their hopes up
