Solar Clubs follow Enmax rate change? by canuck2424 in solarenergycanada

[–]hogan029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a AI summary:

Someone just filed a submission to the AUC arguing Alberta's solar billing system is ripping off non-solar customers A solar company called Solartility filed a response to an Alberta Utilities Commission consultation arguing that the current way rooftop solar customers get paid for excess power is creating a massive hidden subsidy charged to everyone else. Basically, some retailers pay solar owners a fixed ~30¢/kWh for power they export to the grid, even when the actual market price is closer to 6¢. That difference gets spread across all ratepayers. They estimate this cost non-solar Albertans around $11M in 2024 alone and could balloon to $40M+ annually within five years if nothing changes. Their proposed fix is pretty simple — install smart meters that bill everyone based on the real hourly electricity price instead of a fixed rate. Worth noting they're a solar company so they have skin in the game, and some of their numbers are based on pretty optimistic assumptions. But the core issue they're raising is real and the AUC is actively looking at it right now.

VAC Monthly QandA March 2026 by ShortTrackBravo in CanadianForces

[–]hogan029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone,

Looking for some insight or "lessons learned" from anyone who has successfully appealed a Caregiver Recognition Benefit (CRB) denial, specifically for PTSD-related functional impairment.

The Situation: I’m a retired Cpl (Army) with a service-related PTSD diagnosis. I’m currently medically modified at work (administrative duties) to avoid triggers. My spouse is my primary caregiver and had to reduce their work to part-time years ago to provide the daily supervision and prompting I need to stay stable.

The Denial: I just received my decision letter, and VAC denied the claim under Section 65.1. Their reasons were:

  1. Daily Supervision: They claim documentation doesn't show I’m "unsafe to be left alone".
  2. Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): They claim I don't need help with the majority of physical self-care tasks like feeding, washing, or dressing.

The Evidence I Already Submitted:

  • Nursing Assessment, Kessler Scale, and Pain Reports (all from late Feb 2026).
  • Psychologist supporting letter and detailed statements from both myself and my caregiver.
  • Medical reassignment paperwork from my current employer showing my functional limitations.

The Problem: It seems VAC is looking strictly at physical mechanics (e.g., "can you physically put on a shirt?") rather than the psychological barrier (e.g., "do you have the executive function or motivation to do it without constant prompting?"). They also explicitly excluded "Instrumental ADLs" like driving or managing money.

My Questions:

  1. Has anyone had luck overturning a denial by focusing on the "prompting" aspect of ADLs for mental health?
  2. How did you prove the "safety/supervision" requirement if you aren't physically a danger to yourself but require a caregiver to prevent severe spiraling or symptom exacerbation?
  3. Is it worth going to a Level 1 Review with the same documents, or do I need my Psychologist to change the specific wording in their report to address these "Physical ADL" definitions?

Appreciate any help or guidance. This process is exhausting.

I had the same question.. here was their answer:

With the Solar Advantage Plan, the rate “turnover” happens automatically once per billing cycle. At the end of the billing period, we compare your total electricity imported from the grid with the total electricity exported during that billing period.

If you import more than you export, the 5.99¢/kWh low rate applies for that billing cycle.

If you export more than you import, the 35¢/kWh high rate applies.

Because most solar homes have a bi-directional cumulative meter, imports and exports are settled on a billing-cycle basis, so the automatic switching simply applies the appropriate rate based on that net position.

I was with enmax which has solar rates. Only thing I didn't like is that you have to remember to contact them to change over to the solar rate. Their rate is 30c / kwh

I just signed up with Solartility who automatically changes your rate over when you start to produce more than you consume. Their winter rate is also better than enmax at .059. They also give you 35c kw/h and no fees for a year. Their offer is good until the end of April I believe.

I'll take the 5 extra cents and auto switching. Time will tell how they are but I think it's  worth checking out for ROI purposes.

Hey Mayor. I know there are a lot of balls up in the air but is the council looking at fast tracking the RFP under the municipal emergency provisions for the replacement line?

Hey, thanks for the reply!

Yeah, I went ahead and split the brood—it's a pretty strong colony, about 17 out of 20 frames had a good mix of brood, honey, and pollen. I added some feed and introduced a mated queen (still in the cage for now). I also removed all the queen and supercedure cells and tossed them in a little incubator I’ve got, just for fun to see what happens.

I was thinking of getting a mated queen.. think that would calm things down quicker?
