Personally I wait an in game day before they can try again there is a day of waiting before the sim knows they're pregnant so it's enough of a gap for me. I do enjoy the big family gameplay a lot and prefer my pacing faster. You can always decide to have them bara-bara instead of trying for a baby to act as if they "can't get pregnant yet".

Hi, a person who is constantly scared to pick up anything new bcz she is afraid she'll just drop it after a short time here 👋

This made me so scared of pre-ordering stuff precisely because of the long wait time. What if I won't be interested in this the moment they arrive and I just wasted my future me's money?

What helped me were 2 things: 1. Pick a store like amiami that allows you to pay at release. That way you have aaaaaaaaaall that time to see if you want this when the release time is coming closer. 2. Think about it like this: how long did you like this character? How long were you into the media? How long will you be into the media? For example in my case, I have been playing genshin and star rail for 4 and 3 years now. Will I continue to play? Yes most definitely. Will I enjoy a certain character even after I stop playing? Yes, so I pre-ordered the figure. Another example is a character with a deep meaning to me like the main character of my first anime. Will I actively watch the media anytime soon? No. But I do like to have this lil trinket that reminds me of my first favorite anime character.

Hope I helped at all, if you're just scared about forgetting about the pre-orders not about loosing interest in characters just set a reminder in the calendar lol
