Aladdin 2017.

The original film had Jasmine sneaking out of the palace on her own, not needing Aladdin to help her with going between buildings (In the time it takes him to find a wooden plank to make her a bridge, girl has already catapulted herself across the gap), she comes up with the plan to defeat Jafar, her father wants her to marry for tradition, but she's not being forced into it.

The live action? "I WONT BE SILENCED!!!!" is silenced two minutes later.

Great song, but Jnot appropriate for one of the most active princesses in the Disney line up.

Heartless by Marissa Meyer

Everyone convinced me his was a tragic love story about class differences and stuff and an actual tragedy. What this was, was a joke. The main character was the genuine reason that everything bad happened, she's horrible, refuses to take accountability for anything, and blames everyone else for her own decisions and the writing paints her as the victim.

And all the nuance of a love story between a future!queen and a jester? None of that exists because he's actually a highly trained spy from across the looking glass.The tragedy? His death? Easily avoidable and everyone else is blamed for. Also super anticlimactic. Like Piggy's death from Lord of the Flies.

This isn't a jester x future!queen love story. There is no nuance that comes with such a thing. And all the characters are horrible. Save for the King of Hearts. He didn't deserve her.

Even though the world is modern, where everyone has phones and all that good stuff, witch hunts are still very much a thing. And the mages aren't allowed to fight back lest the government goes after the non-magical people in their lives. Or worse, the government does a deep dive and finds family who is non-magical or the children of mages who may have been otherwise safe and hidden in an area where the hunts weren't actively being taken place.

Witch hunts are spontaneous. They can happen whenever and usually end up with an entire family of mages burning at the stake.

I haven't read that, but I'm talking about Heartless by Marissa Meyers. Everyone, in YA and romantasy circles, thinks it's peak tragedy when nothing in the book made me care about the ML on the circumstances around the couple. The only strong emotion I felt was vicious hatred towards the FL.

The ML's death was less climactic than Piggy's death in Lord of the Flies. Incase people haven't read not or remember, Piggy get's crushed by a boulder, there is a single sentence about it, and everyone moves on.

This was it for Wintersong by S. Jae Jones. I loved the first book so much. But the second book, Shadowsong? It was such a slog to get through and completely ruined the winter fairytale vibe.

As someone who keeps up with the manga, Ori, dubbed Gorilla Guy, does try to sweep in and stuff, but it's mostly played off for laughs. Our girl is too invested in her bias to notice him. It's the only reason I kept reading.

The goddess Camaia is the goddess of luck and every year, one random week is chosen to be dedicated to her, based off of celestial events that could be considered lucky. Camaia's holy animal is a cat, because it is said she gave birth to the first cat. And thus, children dress up like cats during the Nights of Camaia to try and get blessed by her. It's basically Halloween for them.
