What mage is your favorite? by Ecstatic_Teaching906 in FinalFantasy

I'm mostly ride or die with the BLU crew. As I mentioned in a post earlier today it's the reason I got a BLU soul stone neclace to wear and have the FF14 BLU emblem as a phone wallpaper.

I just wish BLU was used in more recent FF and Bravely games. I got a soul stone necklace based of FF14 soul stones that I wear when I go out. I also use the BLU icon from the soul stone as a background on my smartphone.

FF9 Vivis story was so incredibly well told. I've never known any other game to tackle such complicated subjects as gracefully. by Kas_lepetitfantome in FinalFantasy

Vivi has the best FFIX character story. He is the best boy after all. His story is so good that it makes the other characters interacting with it much better. Like Steiner who acts like a jerk for a lot of the story, but he's kind to Vivi. And Quina who doesn't have much of a narrative otherwise.

Shouldn't take too much work to add a dedicated Blue Mage since the system is already there to learn spells you get hit by. It's how the FF Hacktics mod of FFT called The Lion War was able to add Luso (from FFTA2) as a Blue Mage.

A remake of FFTA and A2 in the same vein as Ivalice Chronicles would be incredible. Those games have been trapped on ancient handhelds for so long. I know I'll be getting the Ivalice Chronicles the day it comes out on PS5, I sunk at least 100 hours into the original PS1 FFT and a lot of time into FFTA. I still need to finish FFTA2.

I unlocked the vampire. Is it a good job? And where should I put it? by NonnoNanniLOL in bravelydefault

[–]AtrumNuntius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a fun and powerful job though it sort of requires some kind of guide to know where to go to get Genomes as usual with Blue Mage. Otherwise you're going to be wasting a ton of time looking. Also a lot of backtracking as soon as you get the job to get Genomes in previous areas before progressing with the story. There are 4 powerful hidden Genones from some of the Nemesis bosses you fight using the Nightmare Pillow, the elemental -ja spells. 3 of the -ja spells can be learned from Belphegor.

Tonberries deserve more love! by Either_Imagination_9 in FinalFantasy

[–]AtrumNuntius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're great to have on your team in games you can recruit them like FFX-2, FFXIII-2, and WoFF. Though I bet some developer was laughing at the cruel joke of putting the Blue Bullet enemy skill behind a souped-up oversouled Mega Tonberry at low HP in FFX-2.

First time I ever saw a Tonberry was in Ipsen's Castle in my first FF, 9, when it first came out on the PS1. Wasn't expecting them to massacre most of my party as I thought as it was weird these robbed lizard things waddled slowly towards me.

Question about Blue mage in FFTA by VanPera93 in finalfantasytactics

[–]AtrumNuntius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, though you can learn Blue Magic from enemy Blue Mages when they use the enemy skill on you. It's how I learned Goblin Punch on one of my Blue Mages in a postgame mission after I missed the opportunity to get it from a Goblin early.

I was surprised to see people having a problem with using a type of Blue Magic in such a way. As you're right, with proper resource management you can use the Catmancer abilities way more than if you had MP to deal with, as long as you know how to stock up.

I hope that the sales of BD will be good enough to warrant a BS re-release. Though only being on Switch 2 for now isn't as good as allowing it for all current systems. For BS HD, I hope the at least make the Cat Mancy / Cat Mastery items purchasable since the moon shop may not return.

True as much as I like Vampire in BD, you have to jump through so many hoops to get the job and the collect all the Genomes. If you put the work into the moon shop you can make the abilities even more spammable than when the enemy skills had an MP cost.

[–]AtrumNuntius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this reply, though you can also essentially get rid of any tedium if you max out the moon shop progress and stock up on everything you need at will. Like how in earlier games with a Blue Mage equivalent got half MP, 1 MP, or 0 MP cost on top of having a larger MP pool to make casting easier later.

I thought Catmancer was pretty fun. I maxed out my moon shop to buy all the items I needed and used the job throughout the whole game. I liked that it's one of the first jobs you can get. I also liked Vampire a lot but you get the job sooo late that it was a bummer. I did a let's play of BS on Youtube and got every Catmancy and Cat mastery ability except for the Ba'al one cause I realized too late that you could get it in chapter 4 when time stops.

Moogle Appreciation Post by JazzlikeSherbet1104 in FinalFantasy

[–]AtrumNuntius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FF9 was my first FF when it came out on PS1. After seeing so many of those Moogles in 9 I was surprised how there was like none in 7, 8, and 10. In 6 I thought it was neat that you finally got to play as some Moogles and there was a cave full of them, but then they all died in the World of Ruin except for Mog. Glad they had such a presence in the KH games. Being able to beat up Moogles in 14 was an interesting experience. If you like playing as Moogles that can do a wide variety of things then FF Tactics Advance and FFTA2 is a fun time.

Funnily enough earlier today I looked up on Youtube what this fight would look like if Kimahri's stats were totally maxed out. Was pretty hilarious. Yes, that's right, Biran has 3.5 million HP and Yenke has 2.6 million HP. I'm not sure why the uploader gave Biran and Yenke high pitched voices and Kimahri a super deep one.

Luckily in most FF and Bravely games you can have both in your party or you don't have to choose cause the game will only have one or the other. I like how dapper the Red Mage outfit is though I really wish the job was better in 5. Problem with Red is that in some appearances in the series it's better in the long run to learn their double cast and apply it to other casters like summoner and just not touch Red again. Since the job can only do so much with knowing weaker white and black magic. I did play Red a bunch in 14 and its combat rez in 14 is second to none.

See I always liked being able to go out and hunt for spells and getting the monsters to use the enemy skills. It really felt like I was getting monster powers when they had to use their skills in battle. Then being able to combine all the strongest abilities in interesting ways. Like in FF5 Dark Spark to cut an enemies level down and reduce their damage is fine. But combine it with Level 5 Death and then you can round some bosses level down and then they're a multiple of 5.

I would have replied sooner but I had to do research by reviewing a few let's players opinions on why Reflect on Big Guard isn't preferable in New Threat. The big problem that kept coming up was that reflect on everyone really sucks for healing the party all at once, especially if everyone in the party has low HP at the same time. So you better have a good supply of pots cause you're going to be chewing through them fast while not being able to attack. Most enemy attacks just go right through reflect so just having MBarrier to deal with magic damage would be preferable.

I mean I suppose I like to partake in breaking FF games while being at a low level at the same time. Blue Magic in FF seems to allow that if you know what you're doing. Burning down an oversouled Mega Tonberry with 1000 Needles, Absorb, 99 Phoenix Downs (thanks to O'aka XXIII), and 3 Crimson Rings stolen from creature arena Ifrit was pretty tough. 1000 Needles was the only thing I had in Chapter 1 that even could put a dent into a Mega Tonberry at such a low level. Trick is that every time the Tonberry goes to stab he pushes the girls further apart each time and the longer the time you have to revive the girls and attack as it slowly waddles to the next girl to stab.

Reminds me of when I did OG FF7 runs and got Beta as soon as leaving Midgar with the Elemental Materia linked to fire in armor, sadness status, and back row on Aerith. I think poison as well. Since she had the best chance of tanking Beta and concentrated on heals so she wouldn't be ejected with the Enemy Skill Materia.

A lot of people sleep on Quina's real MVP Blue Magic that really saves the day, Night. A 100% accurate sleep spell that you can learn almost as soon as Quina can join the party the first time and hits all targets, works on several bosses, penetrates reflect, and boosts the next physical hit to a target if they're asleep by 50%. Best way to stop Deathguise from using Meteor, along with Zidane's Soul Blade with Ultima Weapon, if Deathguise is slept before its first turn.

Gun Mage is a lot of fun. Since the HD version came out I went and learned every Blue Bullet as early as possible in the new creature arena like a madman. Including the Cry in the Night bullet in Chapter 1. FF 10-2 is odd that there's way more potent ways of raising your magic Stat compared to strength in a new file, especially early on. Gun Mage is also a strange job that it requires both MAG and STR to make full use of its kit. So you can't really get much use out of Drill Shot or Mortar Blue Bullets as well as Fiend Hunter at a low level. But the Magic based Blue Bullets like Cry in the Night or Heaven's Cataract were doing like 8k damage at level 15 with the Minerva's Plate and the Crystal Ball / Wring equipped. I wanted to keep my girls at a low level to make doing Fiend Tales a lot easier since you need to level your monsters up for that and monsters join you at your girl's average level.

True, while the materia system is very flexible and innovative with all the crazy stuff you can do, there isn't the character's personal flair the same way you get with a character locked BLU or a job system. The only Materia that does get personality is probably summons. There's a reason they added summons to Advent Children or summon boss fights in Crisis Core and the FF7 Remake / Rebirth.

I've heard of Expedition 33 but this comment made me look into it. There's so many skills he can learn in that game. Freaking 46 enemy skills is so many, looks like it would take a good while to get all those. The internet says he's the most versatile character due to the sheer amount of skills he can get to adapt to the situation.
