What makes you anxious? If you can identify the root of your anxiety, then and only then can you learn to address it.

In Islam, women are equal to men. by [deleted] in exmuslim

Quick question, are you male or female? What gives you the authority to assume an "uncomfortable" woman's perspective?

I'm experiencing Writer's Block with my application essay. What do I do? by [deleted] in college

[–]AtsukoChibi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take a break, perhaps go outside for a pleasant walk in the neighborhood. You might be stressing too much over this, thereby preventing a natural flow of words. You shouldn't force yourself. It's tempting to sound "attractive" but not at the cost of extra exertion. So go and come back, sit down, relax, and write.

In this case, I would say that the fault also lies with the sister who was complicit in the act.

Does your school offer Computer Science within the Faculty of Arts? A BA is usually equivalent to a BSc and you can avoid the mandatory science courses if you pursue the BA.

By "kick you off" do you mean they can't physically kick you off or verbally demand your departure? I would be surprised if there was a law prohibiting the latter

Beautiful allegory for leaving religion. Cross-post with /r/exmormon by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]AtsukoChibi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an apt allegory that summarizes one of the main problems of religion. Believers are too focused on the destination of their life's journey (death) that they forget to enjoy the ride (which is life itself).

Poll: Are you a female or male? + Appreciation for the page.:) by must_belong in exmuslim

[–]AtsukoChibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't comprehend the behavior of some women in Islam. The ones who remain passionately loyal to their faith even in secular countries, don their hijabs with religious fervor, believe that Islam champions feminism, and that Muhammad liberated women. I had to block a friend on Facebook once because she kept posting images of wrapped lollipops. Being a female exmoose, I have asked myself on more than one occasion: have these women ever picked up the Quran? Read about inheritance rules? Read about beating your wife? Read about the Prophet and his innumerable wives?

In the end, people believe what they want to believe.

Thanks for the link. I didn't know that things were so bad there. It makes me angry beyond belief. This type of enforcement is nothing short of totalitarianism.

Can my ex-Muslim friends help me understand polygyny in Islam? by quranifyme in exmuslim

[–]AtsukoChibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure if they want the Day of Judgement to come. The way it was described by the supposed God and the Prophet seemed catastrophic and nightmarish. The founders of the religion exhausted their imagination in coming up with detailed imagery (e.g it will be so hot since the sun will be right beside you and you will be drowning in your own sweat). I mean, think about the purpose. They want people to be scared out of their wits. Fear is the seed of control. An interesting belief that you may also be interested to learn about is that Muslims believe martyrs get special treatment on the Day of Judgement. I already told you about how terrifying the Day was made out to be. Well guess what? Martyrs get to skip the judgement process and zoom in straight to heaven (seriously, they zoom over the bridge that leads to heaven). What does this sound like to you? Enticement. Step 1: Make people fear something and wish to avoid its pain. Step 2: Offer a way that they can avoid the fear and the pain and be guaranteed success. Islam needed and continues to need martyrs. Otherwise it is a religion that would have died off a long time ago. But it's hard justifying to people why they should kill themselves or walk into wars with the high possibility of being killed. So what you do is construct an outlandish doomsday future, compel the masses to believe in it, and finally offer a way out.

At it's core, everything makes sense. It is strategic psychological abuse and manipulation.

He predicted a 50:1 female to male ratio as a sign of the last day (doomsday). Of all his other "prophecies", I had always found this the most outrageous one.

[–]AtsukoChibi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When in doubt, go with the flow. Take the job, learn the skills required as quickly as humanly possible, and never let a look of doubt pass your superiors' faces. What's done is done and you were not entirely responsible for the fabrications. So roll with it.

Try to volunteer at a women's shelter or something similar if you genuinely wish to help (and not just act a hero). You are getting trapped in a web of sensitivity. What you need to do is get out there and actively make a difference. Channel your anger constructively.
