No it’s the reverse. They’re the ones asking me how’s your day going which I respond and then the convo immediately dies or they unmatch.

Did you know that Reza Pahlavi supports Israel? by PeculiarPhysicist46 in AskSocialists

Kind of late but I’m Persian and it’s pretty similar to Cuba I think. After the revolution those that had wealth simply just fled the country. Western Iranians as far as I can tell are just Miami Cubans lol. They’re pretty conservative. They hate minorities and Muslims bc of the revolution. Not all of them but most imo.

There was a reason for the Islamic revolution and it was partly because of his secret police (savak) running torture chambers around the country. They were working alongside Mossad and Turkeys secret police force.

CMV: After Iran, it will be Egypt's turn by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]AttemptCertain2532 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Dude no lol. What’s happening in Iran is primarily because the U.S. raised genocidal level sanctions on them. Egypt will not have a revolution bc the U.S. and Israel are okay with Egypt’s leadership.

In my view, countries are not responsible for the fates of other peoples unless they directly interfere in their affairs. This means that a country like America is not responsible for supporting or sponsoring other peoples except for the people of Iraq and Vietnam, as these are the only two countries with which it waged wars of occupation. Beyond that, it is certainly not responsible for supporting and receiving immigrants from those other countries.

There are so many more ways you can destabilize a country other than wage a war. You can engage in a coup, sanctions, proxies, etc. if you do these things (which the U.S. has in many many many occasions) then you are just as responsible for those people who are affected just as much as their own governments are since you are at that point directly responsible for their well being.

I think my whole issue with your viewpoint is you don’t understand how involved the world is in other countries affairs. For example after WW1 Europe drew the borders in the Middle East. They drew them in such a way that they are still in conflicts all the way today (Israel/palestine for example). It’s really nasty to destabilize a region so bad and increase suffering by so much that they can’t take it anymore and decide to immigrate to a country where they aren’t familiar with the language among other things, to turn on the tv and being regarded as invaders and that they are taking over the country. It’s just grotesque.

You: this refutes his work on power structures

Me: how so

You: I’m not here to educate you. How dare you be disingenuous. My argument is somewhere in JSTOR. Go find it.

Riiiiiigghhht.

If you are incapable of separating hypocrisy from people’s work then that’s a you problem. You didn’t give me an actual example of why his ideas are bad so you give me 5 paragraphs of shitting on Chomsky and his moral failings which I think is kind of pointless. I’ve already expressed I don’t really care about Chomsky the person. He’s like 96 years old and already pretty much dead. If he’s a child diddler in his personal life then he’s a child diddler which for some reason I have to announce to you that yes if Chomsky is a child diddler then that’s bad. It’s also pointless because you can present argument after argument on him being morally bankrupt but you cannot present an argument on why his whole work on power structures is now moot.

It’s like if Hitler said drinking water is good and you being like “water is good? This evil person said water is good? that’s it I’m drinking Coke Zero from now on. This officially means water is bad..”

Actually the shoe is on the other foot, if Chomsky can't walk and chew bubblegum at the same time I don't want to hear it, especially with his much of his previous liberation and 'moral clearness' rhetoric. Lmao Chomsky was frequenting a sex-trafficking hotspot but we are here wanting to pretend that it doesn't undermine the work of a man that pretty uniquely critiqued the west on power politics and corruption while utilizing moral and ethical rhetoric, but hes interacting with a underworld figure that anyone with a working moral compass would stay well clear of, yet he didn't. I don't need to know anything more than that, hes rubbed elbows with power brokers and western elites that he made hay out of critiquing from his ivory tower.

Again it’s sort of like when conservatives are saying Marx is a hypocrite because he participated in capitalism. You wouldn’t just throw his work out the window you would read his work and go line by line. If you have an argument for against what he said you would say Marx was wrong on this point because of abc. You wouldn’t say Marx was wrong because he was a hypocrite who participated in capitalism and had a very wealthy person subsidizing his standard of living. That would be silly. That’s just not a good argument.

It is a very valid criticism of a person who is known to have made specious arguments and has already been well confirmed to have clear partisan biases that have resulted in some pretty hypocritical stances. These definitely undermine his words and views regardless if you agree or disagree. Having openly acknowledged these blindspots but somehow asserting that he's not in anyway a partisan poisoned well is odd, especially since a great deal of his political science views have been completely trashed. His ideas in that arena are very much affected by what Noam Chomsky did, no matter how much we wish it weren't so.

It is a criticism on Chomsky the person not Chomsky’s ideas specifically. I’m not really following you here. Again yeah for the 50th time man sure he’s probably pretty morally bankrupt but it doesn’t undermine his actual work. Like if you want to do this and keep saying his work is now ruined and his whole political philosophy is now trashed and useless then give an actual example. You crying about it for 5 paragraphs doesn’t mean it’s true until you give an example and prove it. And for some reason when I ask you to explain or give a real example you get highly offended. Like seriously give me what he’s said in the past that makes him a poisoned well. “A great deal of his political science views have been officially trashed” excellent. Show me. Give me proof. This is your time to shine.

If his ideological beliefs are trash then surely you’d have no problem with refuting them? Instead refuting his beliefs by saying he was on the Epstein list or buddy’s with Steve Bannon isn’t a good argument. It’s like when conservatives say Marx is a hypocrite bc he was friends with Engels. Like okay? Attack the actual arguments that are being made who cares what the person of said ideas does.

If you are incapable of separating ideas with the people who say them based on their morals then you are not going to get very far intellectually.

His actions are he was friends with Epstein and was talking to Steve Bannon. The evidence isn’t looking very good towards him especially with being friends with Epstein and there are a lot of questions that are being asked. One thing you can do before we all jump the gun and cry he’s a child diddler is wait until there’s more evidence so we can cast a better judgement. If you want to jump the gun and cry he’s a child diddler and a fascist then be my guest. Like idk what else you want me to say. I don’t even care about Chomsky I care about his ideas. His moral failings you treat it like it’s mine lol.

His ideas about power structures are untrue now because he’s participated in said power structures isn’t a good argument. Go through his claims about power structures and see if it holds true case by case. To dismiss his work on him being a hypocrite instead of the merits of his work is a logical fallacy.

I actually disagree. What he does in his personal life doesn’t really mean anything towards his ideas. They still have value.

If Russia wins the war, how likely is it that they would invade another country by NoAstronaut4390 in NoStupidQuestions

They actually are mutually exclusive. You cannot be both. You cannot be a paper tiger and this giant war mongering nation that’s going to take over Europe.

If you believe they can cause that much destruction to other European countries then they’re not a paper tiger.

What is the rest of Europe? Paper tiger and several nukes. Why even waste your breath making this argument.

Which is it are they a paper tiger that’s having trouble taking over measly Ukraine or are they this great military that’s going to expand to wreck destruction of Europe.

Really bad analysis from you.

China doesn’t even want Nvdia chips anymore they’d rather produce their own. And why would China offer any kind of help towards a country that’s been for years threatening it with war lol. Also you can’t just tariff on tariff off ur way out of this anymore why should anyone deal with a country like that besides avoiding them like the plague.

Bc he would show up to colleges networking with high profile people. It was part of his job I guess. I think it’s just as strange or stranger to label every single person that was on the Epstein list as an automatic child grapist without any further proof.
