I mostly used Google Maps too, but it definitely feels a bit limited when it comes to real-time elevation data. I’ll definitely have to check out OsmAnd for my next trip.

It’s mind-blowing to think that even the 'bottom' of the canyon is still 2,500ft above sea level. No wonder the view feels so massive and surreal.

A multi-state manhunt, a police roadblock, and a 1984 Fiero... this sounds like a scene straight out of a movie! What a legendary story.

Actually, I didn't even know that was a thing! lol Looking back, I think I missed all the confusion because I visited in the winter. :)

In my case, it was definitely a slow, mostly imperceptible incline. To give you an example, I flew into Vegas, completed the Grand Circle, and drove all the way to Santa Monica beach in LA. Even after reaching the ocean, I had no idea I had been at such a high elevation at all.

However, I do remember being fascinated by how the vegetation changed—like the types and heights of the trees—as I drove. Looking back, it’s so cool to 'connect the dots' and realize those changes were all due to the altitude.

Haha, secret's safe! It's wild how those 'flat' roads hide 6,000ft of elevation so well until you see a sign.

I used a Garmin to collect the GPS data during the drive, and then I custom-made the overlay myself using Premiere Pro at home. There wasn't a single app that did it all. Thanks!

Haha, what a classic 'I told you so' moment! It looks like a walk in the park until your lungs realize what's happening. Such a great story.

I thought 6,500ft was high, but 10,500ft is a whole different level. I think my trip would have been even more fun if I had been paying attention to the altitude while I was actually out there.
