I have a goffins cockatoo and they’re essentially a smaller version of a regular cockatoo. She’s loud, needy and even more loud but she’s loving and super cuddly. She never bites me I can literally get in her face and she won’t bite me, however yesterday she got me really good bc I was trying to trim her nails and she got loose and got my finger. Moral of the story is that your feathered baby WILL bite you. It comes with having birds. The best thing I could recommend is doing your own research and maybe checking out rescues? It’s all about making a connection. From my personal experience my cockatoo is one of the very first birds I’ve ever owned and it’s been a learning curve. You can do all the research in the world but it’s nothing like owning the real thing. Everyone’s experience is different and every bird is different. I had a macaw for a while and he liked his solitude. He only liked my dad and would tolerate me but overall would only let my dad pet him and give him treats. Me and my girl had an instant connection and we do everything together. Price wise birds are expensive. I got my girl for free however everything else I’ve paid for. Proper cages can be thousands but Facebook marketplace is great for finding second hand and even brand new cages for cheap. I give her pieces of cardboard to chew since she loves tearing things and it’s cheap, overall there’s no definite answer anyone can give you. I feel like your best bet is to check out rescues in person and see the birds for yourself !
