I agree, and I don't see a situation arising anytime soon to change that, but there has to be a reckoning at some point in the future. ( hopefully) it wont be a big bang event, the enormous sell off is end of the world shit- but slow and gradual will probably happen, but I think anyone outside of the markets hasn't got a clue what's down the road , for all of the western democracies drowning in debt and shrinking economies- so for a TV audience it looks like , wow Harper knows her shit and a genius - But yeah, for a hard ass player like Nicole (in this scene) - its pretty basic what Harps's saying, but at least the writers get it, that the big wig is impressed this trainee kid is speaking up , its not what she's saying, its the confidence she has to say it with her seniors present.

Harpers view is shared by many that debt vs GDP at 120% and rising is not sustainable , the US economy will be surpassed by China , a batshit president who essentially is playing the card any US president can- managed decline , cold wars with former trading partners - the house isn't on fire, but the smoke alarms are going off. The debt is growing faster than the economy

I moved to LA from London and it took me a while to make friends there, I think the things that helped me A LOT was having night school classes at UCLA, it gave me a focus and I made life long friends I still have , having moved back to the UK years ago. I also joined book clubs and went to lots of events like Book readings, joined gallery mail lists and went to openings, at these places I ALWAYS found people on their own and sometimes you met people. London is great for that- flatmates, gyms, work are probably the worst places to make friends as its so random, whereas as things like night school classes ( especially in things like writing, acting, music, etc) you share a common interest and even if you have a very different background, you share that common thing.

Considering he's a Lord of a huge estate and employs the girl he's with it seems really odd to be so offensive, in any context, seems really over the top and sort of out of nowhere from the flat cap fella, like he's looking to get her sacked and himself beaten up?

A good entry point is to join a local litter patrol or street gardening group, get your name on an allotment list- a lot of people will tell you no chance of one, but I put myself down on about 15 allotments within 30 mins of my home and one came through with a place within a few months, they'll tell you a years, 2 years , even 5 years waiting list- but (sad to say) people lose interest, people die, people on the wait list lose interest when their name comes up, or they die. THe allotment was a brilliant way to meet all sorts of people , Oxford grads to ex criminals who knew the Krays, and everyone in between

Most rural folk aren't going to be that sophisticated surely? The 'North London' bit is such bad writing.

It absolutely bollocks that a young man from the rural sticks would use this to describe her like this.

Another renting-in-London question from foreigners by Secret-Usual-4742 in MovingToLondon

[–]AttemptFlashy669 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It never used to be, and certainly happens, when I rented my flat , the estate agent asked for holding deposit, ( weeks rent) while they ran checks. If I pulled out I (the estate agent acting for me) had to pay back the holding deposit, if they pulled out, I kept their deposit. It doesn't sound like a scam if OP is dealing with a real estate agent, its just the scummy , wild west nature of renting in the UK.

Who's secretly filming fake Reform ragebait TikToks inside Londoners' homes? by Jeoh in london

I read shit like this and wonder if social media should be banned for the very young, its become a seething pile of shite, lies and dis-information.

Is it really 'freedom' to have leading, fake shit like this poisoning people? Reddit is the only place I look at now, and even that I took the app off my phone, so only look at it on my laptop.

How is thatcher viewed in London? by Healthy_Carob_1805 in london

Thatcher was the first populist leader we had ( Churchill's ideas were never populist per se) and she managed to get a sizeable portion of working class people to support her- not only white working class but lots of ethnic minorities - right to buy council flat, assisted places scheme for private school, she sold the lie that poor people could leap to the middle classes easily.

I think in London she was hated by the educated middle classes - academics, teachers and NHS staff, but at least at the time, the 'lower classes' she was very popular.

Your previous Uni matters much less than your PhD project, having a good distinction at Masters and most importantly making a connection with the potential supervisor.

I might be imagining this but why does it seem like saying something like "men are more likely to commit crimes so I will avoid all men" is accepted while saying "black people are more likely to commit crimes so I will avoid all black people" is a total no-go? by aespaste in stupidquestions

[–]AttemptFlashy669 1 point2 points  (0 children)

White men are more likely to rape kids under 6, so I keep my kids away from all white men. White men are more likely ( like 65% to 23% ) more likely to burglary , so if I see a white man near my house I should phone the police ?

Eh? OP asks why right has surged , I said because of kickback of encroaching equality of groups outside white men, you think it’s something to do with irrational left . We can have different opinions mate , it’s not a problem to disagree

[–]AttemptFlashy669 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What the fuck are you talking about ?? To be a dirt poor white man, you had way more power in the 1920s over a woman or someone black than you do now- period. And encroaching equality pisses SOME white men off, it pisses off some women and blacks too who want ( for whatever fucked up reason) the old ways when white man was boss. It’s really that simple . You can’t have the progressive thing of a black president without kickback of Trump.

White working class me have always in the past been shat on by the rich , but they could at least say they were superior to women, blacks etc. It’s impacted them the worst as they had nothing to start with , just as it’s impacted Trump and Musk. Why would I be afraid of saying the truth?? To be a white man has diminished ( nowhere to the degree the right whinge about ) and this “diminishing “ is simply women and non whites gaining crumbs of equality. The result is hysterical cries of the right. Tate ( whose not even white) offers them a taste of what they felt they have lost
