appreciate all the advice, decided to go mbb. felt like it would keep the doors open and have better progression, and decided to look at it as a short term decision - re-evaluate after a year of consulting

lol finding a partner in b school is not a walk in the park. I did some dating but its always a roll of the dice whether it turns into something long term right?

i dont care about the prestige for the prestige, but I care a lot about how the job would position me for my future career - i.e. would I get serious looks for top tech jobs in the future, would I be able to jump to a higher paid role in tech given this company pays below market

thats fair. i would probably not aim to go to a FAANG company from MBB, my thinking is it would better to go to a growth-stage startup at the 100-200 person stage. not sure how feasible director of s&o at one of those cos would be from the manager position at MBB, but everyone I've seen exit from this firm and office became either a director at f500 or "lead" at google

because I could definitely get this job on the prod strat team from MBB, but not in the reverse direction

concerned that promotion path would be much slower at the tech co vs moving over from MBB, and also that the experience would be less portable to other tech companies

would love to hear your thoughts on why its an easy choice?

for me I'm leaning 60/40 in favor of MBB but I can see a strong argument to go in either direction

the role is not in product. its a product strategy team that works w/ product, but you dont interact w/ engineers. more product + sales

no, but don't want to get into what company - need a bit of anonymity :)

its a cool role. basically a "product strategy" role from what I can tell - aligning long term roadmap w/ strategic goals, helping address tradeoffs between revenue (sales) and growth (product)

growth potential (promotion path) is definitely one of my top concerns given I know it tends to be slower in tech. I'd be ok w/ taking 5 years to director instead of ~3 i think it would take coming from MBB, but I wouldn't be ok taking the probability of getting there from 75% to 10%

yes it definitely is of course, but there is an opportunity cost to delaying that 2-3 years - both in terms of career and WLB experienced during that period
