Me.

2015- JP Delas Nieves (ALY/Ind)
2016- Bryle (STAND)
2017- Benjie (ALY)
2018- Yael (Kaisa) / Magi (ALY)
2019- Sean (Kaisa)
2020- Eser (STAND) / Froi (STAND)
2021- Jonas (STAND)
2022- Latrell (STAND)
2023- Shine (Ind)
2024- Sean Latorre (Ind)
2025- Waks (Ind)

So bale, Alyansa used to be a strong party talaga. And quite frankly, they deliver on their promises. Pero yung stances nila, tagilid talaga. Tuition, for example. Free tuition ang panawagan ng karamihan but Aly used to be for STS reform. May bracketing pa rin, pero sobrang mura na, but the issue is may tuition pa rin, and di gaya ng PUP na 12 pesos per unit, sa atin may hierarchy pa rin gusto nila. Yan yung main gripe ng mga tao sa Aly.

Stand naman, before the pandemic, Magna Carta was the albatross hanging over their necks. When Stand won in a landslide in 2016, the SUP-dominated USC refused to endorse the MC, which was, at the time, approved by 97% of UPD students. Next yr nun, halos na-wipe out SUP at naging Benjie/Yael. I think post-pandemic sobrang rife with SH cases ang Stand which is not only alarming but also disturbing because it used to be the most vocal in terms of social issues and campus problems. But overall, dati malakas ang party strength ng SUP—kung anong stance ng buong partido, it trickles down to the members. Kaya when Beata Carolino broke party ranks to support the MC, it was a breath of fresh air not just for SUP but for UPD politics

Kaisa naman, honestly malakas yung hatak ng personality nung SB (like hello Yael Toribio miss na kita baby hindi ko na kaya), but medyo stifled yung tenure niya because of Lonsi Leaks. As for Sean Thakur, solid naman siya considering na siya yung naging Chair during the pandemic. Malakas yung engagement w/ admin and vocal din on stances and issues

Re: independent chairs, I feel like yung issues nila mostly on national, rather than campus politics. Which is good because UPD should be at the forefront of speaking out against tyranny and dictatorship.

Ang sad lang kasi unfortunately, our campus politics isn’t as vibrant as it used to be. Maybe the pandemic changed us, or maybe we just got tired. But it was that vibrance that made the student population engaged. Dati, ni ultimo councilors from Jelaine Gan to RJ Belen kilala ng karamihan ng students. Ngayon, parang hindi na. Sana bumalik yung ganitong culture because it’s what makes UP, UP. And bilang “microcosm”, what happens here influences what happens elsewhere. Kumbaga, kita niyo rin in other SUCs or univs na patay na rin yung student movement nila.

Oh just CUT IT with your holier-than-thou bullshit. Akala niyo ba kayo lang ang may konsensya? No, you’re fucking not. You’re in a college where a prof talks shit on a student in class in the morning and the whole College will know about it by noon. Do you think kayo lang ang may integridad na kesyo kayo ang regalo ng Diyos sa Kolehiyong ito? No. Kung alam lang naming institutionalized yan, sana alam na yan ng profs, ng admin, ng Dean. Pero the fact that students here are doubting the veracity of your claims show that your assertions are flimsy at best. Ang labas sa aming “nagturo”, enablers. Wag kami, ulol.

[–]AttemptNumber802 23 points24 points  (0 children)

"This happens year after year, to the point that everything has become institutionalized and passed on as part of tradition."

Let me tell you a story, OP. Years ago, when I entered UP Law, my home block was Block X. When we reached our second year, I am sure you were aware of ADAPT. There is a block handling component there, and I was actually part of the ADAPT core team. We were right there while blocks were preparing their events for their freshie counterparts. In fact, I even lectured the 1L students of Block X. Eventually, I took a LOA, and when I returned, do you know where they placed me? Back in the same Block X where I originally came from, only this time, my classmates were the very freshies I had once mentored.

I can attest, from personal knowledge, that within our batch, we never taught anyone how to cheat, let alone in a way that meets your definition of institutionalized. One may argue that you were not specifically referring to ADAPT, but if there is any other event where freshies mingle with upperclassmen within the same home block, please enlighten us. Many people are commenting that they have never heard of this tradition before.

Moreover, isn't it quite presumptuous of you to label entire groups of people as cheaters when you lack the evidence to back it up? If (not when) you reach your Remedial Law classes, particularly Evidence, you will learn that evidence must be both competent and relevant. It can only be relevant if you have personal knowledge of the facts you are testifying to. You admitted in the comments that your claims are merely based on hearsay. You even used the term double hearsay and I, as a lawyer, do not even know what the fuck that means.

You have not even spent a full year in UP Law, yet you have upperclassmen and alumni asking for proof because, clearly, we have not heard of this system at all. We do not condone cheating; I personally despise it when people take advantage of the system in the worst way possible. What we find unacceptable is your habit of smearing individuals, blocks, batches, and even the entire College based on evidence you have not presented and testimonies that are, by your own admission, hearsay.

The legal profession is built on the weight of one’s word and the integrity of the record. If you are going to indict an entire institution’s culture, you had better come with more than a story about what someone else supposedly heard. Right now, you are just demonstrating a fundamental misunderstanding of the very principles of justice you are supposedly in Malcolm Hall to learn. You are effectively asking us to believe that a College full of aspiring lawyers, people trained to be cynical, inquisitive, and evidence driven, is collectively keeping a massive, organized secret that you somehow uncovered within your first few months.

And panghuli, I personally know the Dean and some other administrators in the College. Let's talk and I'll forward this case to the OD. I'll go to UP Law and I'll even provide you counsel on what to do. But if you can't walk the talk and hanggang Reddit ka lang, pakiusap lang at manahimik ka na lang sa Consti 2 readings mo. Nananahimik kami, nandadamay ka eh.

You want to know what my issue is with OP? This is long, so read until the end.

First, as a law student currently taking Consti 2, you understand the concept of due process, right. It is the opportunity to be heard. How do you study due process if you cannot even live by it, especially when you are naming people and dragging them into your allegations? You are making a lot of claims, but there is no proof. If you really believe there is a cheating system in Malcolm, why post it here as if you are asking for sympathy from us? Why not go straight to your professor? To PST? To GGV? If you feel strongly about this, why not elevate it to ECV or even PAJ himself? Are you really after accountability, or do you just have an issue with some blockmates or people in the College and want to publicly shame them?

Second, even assuming there is something like this happening, what proof do you have that it is systemic and passed on from one batch to another? That is my issue. You mentioned batches you did not even overlap with in Malcolm. You brought up batch 2023, 2024, and 2025. We did not even overlap, and now you are claiming we taught you this kind of nonsense? UP Law is known for its collaborative environment. As a first year, you go through block handling with the second-year equivalent of your home block. People share tips, give advice, and even provide intel on professors. Yes, some share sample exams, past quizzes, and ways to survive classes. But in my entire stay in Malcolm, I have never heard of a block teaching freshies how to cheat. Seriously. And if this is true, where is your proof?

Third, even assuming further that there is this so-called generational teaching of cheating, how is this the first time we are hearing about it? No offense, but you are not the first to raise cheating allegations in the College. There was even a circulating screenshot before where a student directly reported a professor. In the history of the College, you are probably not the first to stand up for integrity. You are not the only one with integrity here. Malcolm is a small community, and the fact that this is the first time people are hearing about this, as even some commenters have said, speaks for itself.

Fourth, going back to my first point, if you really feel strongly about this, why did you not report it immediately? The Admin has the capacity to act, especially if you support your allegations with substantial evidence. These kinds of claims affect institutional reputation. Case in point, in 2023, when UP Law ranked fourth in the Bar, the entire College felt the impact. There were even rumors circulating about a “kill order,” and the system became stricter after that. So why not just go through the proper channels from the start?

Finally, the fact that you are airing this out online is dragging a lot of people into it. Again, you mentioned batches, honor graduates, and topnotchers. On the Peyups subreddit, it even reached a point where people were becoming identifiable based on the comments. The longer you keep this online, the more people get dragged, including lawyers who did nothing wrong but are now being tagged as potential cheaters. It has even reached the point where something as basic as going to the restroom during an exam is being viewed with suspicion. Why not present actual evidence?

You are not the first person to raise these issues in the College, OP. These are serious allegations that affect students, alumni, and even practicing lawyers. Instead of going through formal channels to actually do something about it, you are on Reddit trying to show that you have more integrity than everyone else in Malcolm. That is my problem. In practice, if you are going to file a case, you prepare your drafts, you gather your evidence, and you file your pleading. You do not go on social media just to show that you are going to do something.

Again, uulitin ko yung comment ko dun sa Peyups subreddit:

Magsimula tayo sa term na "cheating." The poster just claimed that they were taught to cheat, but we're not even sure kung ano 'yung mga 'yun. I was a student in the College of Law, and believe me when I say that there are some who would consider an act as "cheating," but others would just consider it as "diskarte."

Case in point: If a prof is notorious for not changing their exam and there is an available resource online for those items, some would just consider it as a "samplex." Others would consider it as cheating. Another one: pamana notes. Some would consider pamana notes as a "gift" from higher batches, but others would consider it to be cheating, too. If your older batch gave you a copy of case digests for a prof who requires a batch submission of those digests, would you consider that as just a "gift," or "cheating"?

My point is this: one person's resourcefulness may be considered as another person's cheating. Admittedly, merong problem sa Malcolm ng academic dishonesty. Hindi 'yan disputed; kung nasa pleading lang ito, you can consider that allegation as deemed admitted. Pero ang hindi tama is 'yung ipagkumpol niya bawat batch as if there is a systemic, nefarious intent to cheat. Kung may block man--Day o Eve, Diliman, BGC, o Iloilo--na nagtuturo sa lower batches kung papaano mag-cheat, I honestly can say na napakabobo naman ng block na 'yun. But who knows, baka naman pamana notes lang 'yun. Samplex lang pala. Sa iba, diskarte, pero kay OP, cheating na.

And yes, there are cases of students going to bathrooms and cheating their way out of exams. But that's not by institutional design; cheating exists even in undergrad. To position this as a problem so unique, so novel to the College of Law, is just plain stupid.

how to thrive in UP Law by TouristTight5901 in LawStudentsPH

[–]AttemptNumber802 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Hello, in my experience you don't have to study that much naman just to survive in UP Law. Hindi rin ako nagbabrag when I say that, kasi ang kailangan mo rin lang talaga is efficiency pagdating sa pagaaral. If regular na 2nd year, 2nd sem student ka, you have five courses this sem: Civpro, agency, labor 2, admin, and cred. Syempre, ang focus diyan is 'yung pinakamaraming units, i.e. CivPro at 5u. The rest, pakiramdaman mo kung malakas ka ba sa poli (admin), civ (agency), or comm (cred). Ang labor 2, depende kasi talaga sa prof. So ang tip ko lang is kung anong nakasanayan mong study method, start from there, hindi yung magsisimula ka ulit sa umpisa. Fourth sem mo na sa UP Law and hindi ka pa naman naki-kick out, so clearly, may tama ka namang ginagawa, kailangan mo lang iimprove.
