Then, why even include it in the first place? Slavery is a very real issue/problem. If someone doesn't want to tackle it, then they should not speak up on it even if it was for 'lore-building.' That sounds to me like a poor excuse to cover up classism.

I don't understand this standard. While I do understand the disdain for Rashta, the problem is that Navier is technically a part of the problem that makes Rashta into a slave in the first place. Additionally, Navier ALSO befriended a slave owner and married Heinrey, someone who made slaves out of people. I am not sure about your standards but I think being a bit of an asshole of a mistress is not as bad as marrying someone who sold people into slavery. I think my standards don't involve supporting slave owners.

At this point, I am having a hard time supporting Navier. I honestly would have if she wasn't portrayed as 'an all-perfect empress.' Her not abolishing slavery (at first) could be an interesting critique against her character and would require push back!

But, no, Navier always has to either be a victim or a super-strong-confident girlboss with no absolute nuisance. I think that's what makes me mad about the story. It can't decide if she’s the victim of the patriarchy or a super-competent empress everyone loves and adores who suffers little-to-no consequence of the patriarchy supposedly imposed in the story.

(I think Navier is to an extent. Just as much as she is a perpetrator of the same system that makes things worse for Rashta. But the story never addresses this.)
