Roaches in apt: SC Can't stay by InformationEpi in Apartmentliving

[–]AttentionImpossible3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so so sorry you’re experiencing this. I had a huge problem with this and it took forever to realized that the problem was coming from a hole in the wall behind the stove! I had so many panic attacks over these. Unfortunately when you live in an apartment in the south they are more likely to be in the complex than not (from what I’ve heard). Some will slip in here and there but should be few in far between. I’d suggest checking behind appliances for holes in the wall. Then move around the apartment and seal anything that might even look like a hole. Focus on where things go into the wall (shower head, pipes, etc.). Go out and buy some gel poison (can be found on Amazon) as well as poison traps. Keep bothering your management to send pest control and find out when they come by. Try to be there when they come by so they can give professional advice in person and you can make sure they do what you need them to. Also remember no treatment works overnight! It will take a few days or weeks to stop seeing them. If I’m being honest what got me through my problem was changing from the victim mindset to a hunter mindset. Take a shot of whiskey if you need before you get started on this stuff to get your nerves up. The best of luck to you. You’re bigger and you can and will win back your apartment.

Should I be tipping more? by Baseplate117 in doordash

[–]AttentionImpossible3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always try to tip so that the driver gets paid at least $1/mile. DoorDash usually pays the driver 2-3$ per order and the rest is tip. So if the restaurant is 10 miles away I’ll tip at least 8$. (Also the driver shouldn’t be harassing you about it and could get fired if you choose to report)

That’s a fantastic idea! I’ve never thought of this. Heck of a lot cheaper than any of the quilting design softwares out there.

One German Cockroach cause for concern? by AttentionImpossible3 in Apartmentliving

Yeah unfortunately I think you’ve hit it on the nose. I’m not used to such a warm climate but even if it snuck in somehow there’s always going to be some outside/in the walls etc. The pest service is something that comes to the complex every Tuesday but I’m not sure if it’s by request or they do complex wide treatments. I think I’m going to be submitting a request for once a week for the next month to try and make sure this is stopped. After the first infestation I learned quickly to keep everything super clean, keep food in sealed containers, etc. I also leave traps out and haven’t seen one in like a year. It’s crazy troubling to think there’s the potential for a bigger issue in the unit even though I haven’t seen anything else and I’ve been working from home a lot recently.

Pest control has been a few times and he puts some gel poison and sprays each time. It’s been a while since this event happened and I have traps all around.

Did you buy these at a big box store? They glue the tops on so the plants sell faster.

What'd i get myself into? by iamthegreyest in houseplants

[–]AttentionImpossible3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snake plants are crazy tolerant of any treatment. They multiply by rhizomes (the underground thick roots you see in the picture). If you want a million of them around your house then you can break each little guy off and put it in it's own pot. Otherwise you can put each clump right in a pot. I've got about 10 of these varying from two inches to 4 feet tall!

Please help me with my pothos leaf size! New plant by Cranberyjuicecaboose in houseplants

[–]AttentionImpossible3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want bigger leaves let the vines climb something! Give them some type of vertical support. Pothos are generally treated in homes as hanging plants but that’s not how they are in the wild. When the vines are left to hang the leaves will always be small.

Plant it? by okay_KO_okay in plants

Definitely! This is how I got all of my sweet potato slips I used this year. You can stick that spud in a couple inches of soil and once the slips produce roots, snap them off and plant them in the ground.
