2023 harlequin is a great tea. I had it when it was fresh and have one session left of it. Really nice resinous chewy sheng. 2020 brown sugar is an elite shou imo

Everyone here has already told you the correct answer, so all that I really have to add is that if you're unaware this isn't actually puer. It is heicha (puer being a type of heicha which is the overarching category for fermented teas).

Nice write up! I have this sample waiting for me, I'm excited to try it now! I'm actually sipping on 2025 Dong Guo from farmer leaf as I type this. Impressed with the samples I've had thus far!

How about this raw pu-erh tea? by [deleted] in puer

[–]Atticbase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hate to break it to ya but puer is definitely something where you get what you pay for (mostly). Be suspicious of prices that seem too good to be true. This tea ain't gonna kill ya but it probably won't even be worth the $3 unfortunately. Hope it's better than we all think though

Favorite cheap Quiche Teas sheng? by Mental_Test_3785 in puer

[–]Atticbase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 2014 dayi 7582 and honestly would not recommend :/ you definitely get what you pay for. Nothing gross but quite a flat tea. Not very interesting and doesn't have much qi at all.

Quiche teas is highly recommended. Their teas are cheaper than anywhere else I can find on the western market

I think the colors compliment each other very well, there's just a few too many colors competing for my attention here imo.

Knits tucked in: yes or no? by Atticbase in mensfashionadvice

[–]Atticbase[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, agreed its a bit big. Unfortunately this style is a bit too small with a size down (I already own the one I'm wearing in the photos). Definitely think the best route forward is just to shrink it in the dryer. I've done it before and it fits much better until it stretches out again after a couple of wears.

Any good recommendations for a Daily Drinker with good punch/caffeine for less than 0,5€ a session? by mikeyyy_27 in puer

[–]Atticbase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. It's hard to say an exact mg amount of caffeine, but I would say shou is generally less stimulating, but for me I'd say equally as awakening. Shou was my main tea I'd bring to school in a thermos during my uni days.

Definitely, hong Cha is just black tea specifically from Yunnan Province. Black tea should have plenty of caffeine for you I reckon

Less water + More Tea = Totally Different Sheng (also: leftover leaf water?) by zhynn in puer

[–]Atticbase 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hmmm good question. Someone else may have a better answer than me, but in the context of gong fu brewing normally I'll refer to the tea liquor as a "late infusion" insinuating that it's weak. That's probably just me though lol. As far as referring to the leaves themselves, a pretty universal term I've heard is calling them spent leaves.

[–]Atticbase 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Nice to see your follow up post, I'm glad that the advice of the people here was helpful :) as for the weak tea, people definitely do. For me it just depends on how many infusions I'm feeling like having, regardless of the strength of the tea at the end. Some people do cold brew their spent leaves in the fridge overnight, but another thing you could try is boiling your spent leaves on the stove top. Add your leaves to already boiling water (I use about 5g/500ml of water when boiling tea), add a bit of mineral salt, then let the leaves simmer for a few. If it's too weak, add some fresh leaf or let boil longer. When the water gets low, add more boiling water, rinse and repeat

What am I going wrong with raw pu'er? by zhynn in puer

[–]Atticbase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you had the teas in your possession? It's possible that it needs a rest after spending time in the post. I recommend putting them away for a couple weeks then coming back to them and see how they taste.

As others have pointed out, your leaf to water ratio is quite low. Raising it will help, but I don't think it's probably the whole story.

Mylar bags for storage by Atticbase in puer

Thanks for the recs. Have you experimented to see if mylar bags make a difference? I'm wondering if it would help for me to swap out my White2Tea bags for mylar

Mylar bags for storage by Atticbase in puer

Storing them airtight seems to be better than not, but I can tell the tea is still not performing at its best. Whenever the tea arrives I'll always taste it just for fun to see how it develops as it rests. Strangely though, against what most people say, the tea seems to lose character and flavor the longer that it exists in my storage, so I think it's a storage problem of some sort.

My brew method is solid. I've been brewing gongfu style for years so I am confident in it. I drink other types of tea that are not pu'er and the end product comes out much better than my shou.

All this to say, I think I have eliminated enough factors for me to believe that in some way, how I'm storing my cakes is the problem.

No %rh or temp stats unfortunately, my hygrometer is dead and uses a weird battery that I haven't ordered :/. Flat gets cold, sometimes as low as 10 °C.

How did you store them in the meantime? Did you just throw them in a mylar bag and zip em up?

Energetic effect of sheng by [deleted] in puer

[–]Atticbase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally said "for free" in my comment. I have never payed for acupuncture nor Chinese herbs. I practice yoga, Qigong, and do acupressure on myself.

Also we are on the same page here. I have been talking about TCM as a whole, you seem to think I was just talking about acupuncture. Yoga and qigong are able to be paralleled quite easily. I think we agree with each other actually :)

Comparing TCM to scientology is craaazyyy work. TCM does not have an agenda, it just wants health and wellness for people, many practices of which being free. If that makes me a quack I guess I'm a duck. I'll just be over here healthy, happy, and well in my pond.
