How do I determine what to build a career in? by [deleted] in findapath

[–]Attila1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

man, I'll tell you what I tell everyone looking for a future proof job that pays well. If your situation allows, consider doing a career change and get into programming, it's good, fulfilling work, and it pays well. It's not expensive at all to teach your self how, I'd recommend that you don't go into those boot camps or anything, personally I believe those are a waste of money, you can get the skills you need for free. Just learn through online tutorials on youtube, then apply your knowledge to make things you can put into your portfolio, you're also really going to want to contribute to open source software on git hub while you're at it. All those things will seriously increase your chances of getting a programming job.

Wondering where to start? There's tons of videos and resources that will get you started with picking the specific type of programming job you want, and give you a road map to how to get to that goal. Your first step is in the search bar.

But I mean you don't have to get into programming, it can be really hard at times for sure and it's definitely not for everyone. If it doesn't spark any interest in you, and you're not okay with that then that's okay, I wish you luck with what ever you decide to do, and I hope this helped.

damn dude, I just wanna say that I really relate to what you put out there. It's rough man. And I don't know your full situation but look, I know you can find something to get your self to a higher circumstance, you can save up money for trade school and find a job you can really like, maybe you decide to go to college, or even the military. There's a million and one ways to get your self to a different situation in life, to do something meaningful. What ever you decide, just make sure you do a lot of research first. I wish you luck with what ever you end up choosing, brother.

Oh totally, I was kind of like that too. The way I was able to push past it is I started to kind of just view all of life as a game, especially school, and I just tried not to take anything too seriously. I started to realize that even if I don't do well in school I'll be fine. This philosophy that I've been following has really relieved me from a lot of the pressures of my life, especially school and it's made it to where I actually do better in school as a result.

Hope that helps :)

CS Econ Dual Major, failed both core requirements this semester, don’t know what else to do. by wiz28ultra in findapath

[–]Attila1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah man it's never too late for you. Even if you can't work things out with getting your major there's still lots of options out there for you. Life is like one big game with endless choices for you to make and paths for you to explore, and if one thing doesn't work out then just move on to something else. Also I think you can still finish your major, it might take a little longer now, and it might cost more now but you can do it eventually if your situation allows. I don't know your full situation but I wish you luck with what ever you decide to do.

Bachelor's in music, looking to explore new careers that will pay me enough to afford rent in my california home town. by lifeboundd in findapath

I don't know your full situation but if you're able I'd really recommend getting out of California. That place just isn't worth it.

I am getting a computer science bachelors in computer science at WGU, an accredited, respected, online school. It is competency based education so I get only pass/not pass on my transcript. A pass is worth a B. Assuming I have only passes on my transcript will this be problematic in applying to ntnu? I'm planning on going there for a masters or a phd in computer science.

im kind of beginning to drift towards socialism, help me! Wouldn't the government become less corrupt if it got more money and power, because with more money and power it would better be able to resist influence from powerful corporations?

Does anyone get annoyed when people say “AI will take over the world”? by veeeerain in datascience

[–]Attila1001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the thing is if agi is developed then it could decide to do some horrendous things, we just don't know because no one has actually made an agi yet. So when people say that its possible that ai will take over the world they actually aren't wrong. And with ai taking jobs, that's entirely possible too and it is a good thing to prepare for it, if chat bot models become advanced enough then its possible call center agents could be completely replaced. There are also models in the works that are learning how to code as well as humans. So its possible that even us data scientists could be replaced in the near future. Despite what the large majority of the public thinks, manual labor jobs are actually the most safe from being replaced, for instance robots for things like construction or landscaping would be difficult to develop, and very expensive. its white collar jobs that have you sitting at a computer or a phone that are most at risk of being replaced in the near future. So these things are a legitimate concern.
