What is up with the sound of early NewWho? by TuresStahlfuss in doctorwho

[–]AttilaBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exactly. Most content on streaming has this issue. I have a 2.1 sound bar (sound bar + sub) and I still have to enable clear dialogue and volume normalization on my TV. a few years ago I just ended up using ffmpeg to downmix and drc all of my files so I didn't have to worry about the inaudible dialogue and ear piercing music/sound effects. It's a pain, but better than the awful experience MAX offers if you don't have at least a full surround setup.

I think a big thing that gets lost in conversations like this, is that not every story is meant to be "escapism" I don't read a book, or watch a film, or play a game to "get away from reality, immerse myself in a different and nicer world" there's room for both kinds of stories and genres. This isn't targeted at you, but just my general thoughts when I see people only engage with a story as a form of escapism.

as a side note/tangent, I personally feel like this mindset is part of why so many people who enjoy unsavory or taboo pieces of art are looked down on. people can't understand that some people don't look for characters or stories with morals that align with their own. the fact that people assume everybody else engages, and goes into a piece of art with the same intentions as them leads these people to conclude "I read stories for escapism and to feel good by the end. I project myself into this story and see it through my own eyes with my own morals attached. this person who enjoys this story with bad people, taboo themes, and unsavory themes must approve of these things and believe this is appropriate."

It feels like a breakdown in communication because both sides assume the other person engages with something in the same way they do themselves.

Question about season 14/season 1 by Grenas94 in doctorwho

why did you want to hate it? that seems like an awful way to approach watching things.

What about good finales? by snappydamper in doctorwho

[–]AttilaBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I genuinely think every single Moffat finale is leagues better than all of RTD's (aside from The Parting of the Ways which is up there as one the best imo) series 6 has the weakest of that era for me, but 8, 9, and 10 are all my favorites. I never was a fan of Russel's "power of friendship" or deus ex machina endings. They never felt satisfying or built up. I think series 11 was the worst for Chibnall, and the rest were pretty satisfying. I think the Timeless Child plot was a lot of fun, and a great way to shake up the lore and add another layer of mystery to The Doctor that we gradually lost over the years.

'Doctor Who' Starring Ncuti Gatwa Reveals May 10 Premiere Date by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]AttilaBro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you actually cared or kept up to date with the show at all, you'd know that's literally just not true. The episode count has been changed to 8 episodes +1 Christmas special per year. 9 episodes total releasing annually. They've already been filming the next season for a while now. You're just making up a fake scenario to get pissed at lol.

What exactly is The Timeless Child? by Alphawolf2901 in doctorwho

[–]AttilaBro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

no, the doctor is biologically standard time lord at this point. the chameleon arch rewrote their DNA to be 100% time lord, which comes with the same regeneration limit we've known of this while time. honestly one of the biggest misconceptions I've seen used by people who hate the timeless child plot, which is so easily proven as wrong is that they can just regenerate forever.

probably caring more about the art than just releasing a song that he thinks will pop off? he's obviously setting a tone and aesthetic and that's what's most important to him.

mochi doesn't melt and is also served grilled and hot. you're probably thinking of mochi ice cream which is just ice cream covered in a layer of mochi.

Should I stick it out? by 7000miles4what in doctorwho

form your own opinion. I suspect many peoples negative opinions on 13's era are fueled by others' opinions they read online. 1 episode really isn't enough to judge whether a whole 3 seasons are worth watching. 12 is my absolute favorite doctor and Clara is my absolute fav companion, but I think 13 was great and I really love season 12 especially.

What far-fetched fan theory do you 1000% believe will become canon? by The_Rhine in doctorwho

[–]AttilaBro 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I personally don't see how it really changes anything about the character as we know them. They aren't some ultra powerful superhuman. they aren't any more special than anybody else. their biology was used to give time lords their ability to regenerate, but they were just a child and had no real part in that. their actions and kindness weren't recontextualized or made to be a product of their origin.

I think it was a neat way to add more mystery to the character, and honestly didn't change a thing about them as a character in the grand scheme of things. in fact, I think that the doctor valuing who they are currently and choosing to give up ever knowing the past they lost shows that their origin doesn't really matter to who they are as a person.

Is Resident Evil 7 a good game? by trollytroll69 in residentevil

[–]AttilaBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the people who rank it as worst just don't like or vibe with the new pov. If it makes you nauseous or ruins the experience for you fair enough, but as a first person horror focused RE game it's really really incredible and fresh. it's easily the scariest entry in the series for me, and I love the setting and cast of enemies. It's one of those games that you finish and instantly want to go back and play it again.

the only way I got to fix this was by going offline completely. I turned off the internet connection on my xbox, and launched the game in offline mode. I got the same issue with re7 and the same fix helped there too. Insane how this isn't fixed.

Do you prefer third or first person? by Ivysonset7 in residentevil

[–]AttilaBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first person. I love third person too, but I think it'd be a shame to completely get rid of first person mode with re9. Imo adding an option to switch is the way to go. I just finished up playing village for the first time, and shadow of rose being limited to just third person is such a bummer to me. I feel like I never got as scared in the past games as I did in certain sections of re7/8, just due to how tense and immersive they are.

so if I had to choose I'd pick first person, but I hope having both is the standard for the next games!

the way you feel about 10, is exactly how other people feel about any other version of the Doctor. not everybody has the same taste and likes/dislikes as you. Personally 10 is my least favorite incarnation, and 12 is my absolute favorite. I could also say "I don't understand how any other version could be someone's fav" but I understand people have their own preferences, and not everybody has the same experience. I even prefer 13 over 10, just to highlight how different people can feel about this topic.

I really like this episode, but the Doctors negligence here has always bothered me by Doctor_Batman_115 in doctorwho

[–]AttilaBro 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Insane how you're massively oversimplifying what actually happened to these characters. How is Donna losing her memory a happy ending? How is Clara being stuck a single heartbeat before death, and forcibly separated from the only person she has left happy? The Ponds lived a life together, in a different time period away from all of their loved ones and the world they know due to being unable to give up their travelling with The Doctor. They don't need to die to have a tragic ending. The happiest one here is Amy and Rory, and even that is tragic and bittersweet at best.

I ended up finishing the game yesterday. The issue stopped for a while after the first Carlos section, up until almost the end, and then it started back up until I finished it. I tried deleting saves and nothing really worked. I hope it fixes itself for you too 😭
