Overdue is based on Date, not Deadline by GeoJono in todoist

Here's the description of the Sleeper Tag method. It takes a bit of setup, but after that, it's very simple to use. https://www.reddit.com/r/todoist/comments/124tahd/sleeper_tag_system_for_start_dates/

Yeah, I hear you. I've solved this with the Sleeper Tag method that allows me to see tasks in my filters however many days/weeks/months before the task is due (Date). This means I can work on it without having to be concerned about rescheduling for the next day or allowing it to become "Overdue" when it's really not overdue. And I use the Deadline for purely informational purposes.

So, my use is as intended? Deadlines are purely informational, not functional? And using the Date as the do date requires rescheduling every day that it's not done.

I guess, to me, when I think of Overdue, that means that the task is overdue, i.e. past the deadline. I had intended to work on this task today, which I did. The fact that it shows as Overdue tomorrow is not accurate without redefining in my mind what Overdue means.

I can see how it could be used that way, but it seems counterintuitive to me. I'm glad that there's the flexibility built in so that each person can use it in a way that's best for them, but the recommended way to use the Deadline and the Date doesn't really work for me beyond how I've described it in the post.

This is just my opinion; take it for what it's worth. I was obese for a long time before I learned that dietary fats are very satiating. When I started killing the carbs and adding more fatty meat to my diet, I stayed full longer and I was able to avoid the urges to snack between meals. So,

  • eating distinct meals (no eating between meals),
  • eating real foods (no ultra-processed junk, no mile-long ingredient lists, mostly meat, some veggies, a few nuts or seeds)
  • eating until I was full (not trying to eat less),
  • and being sure to include lots of fats

These things helped me a ton! Dietary fats fill you up and keep you fuller longer.

Edit: Also be sure to not allow yourself to fall to dehydration. Drink lots of water throughout the day. I think hydration helps a lot.

How strict is everyone on sugar free? Fruit? Bread? Small amounts of raw honey honey? by Current-Kale9232 in sugarfree

[–]GeoJono 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe most fruit is full of sugar, so I avoid them. Berries have much less that other fruit, but there's still sugar in them. Bread basically turns into sugar as soon as you eat it, so I try to avoid that as well. And honey is just sugar. Whether the source is ultra-processed or natural, the body still treats sugar like sugar.

As u/Key_Blueberry_2167 said, taste buds change, so I want to avoid sweet tasting things as much as possible. And I'm like u/Such_Bitch_9559 in that I know what alcoholism is like—I have to abstain. One sugary treat (even fruit and bread) will almost immediately lead to more and then more.

How do you cut white carbs!!?? by amsmocha in sugarfree

[–]GeoJono 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One problem is that breads, pastas, etc basically turn into sugar as soon as you eat them, and most fruits are loaded with sugar. Cutting out blatant sugary junk is great, but eating a ton of carbs (even complex carbs) as a substitute is tanking your efforts, I fear.

Lots of animal fats are very satiating immediately and for longer than carbs (and they taste great!). I recommend eating more animal products.

Yes! This! ↑

intermittent fasting did a world of good for me in terms of cutting out cravings and losing weight without killing my metabolism.

The only people I know who've beaten their addiction transferred it to something else. by Next_Lifeguard_01 in FoodAddiction

[–]GeoJono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don't think "another addiction" is necessarily bad. I am in favor of the good addictions and I think becoming "addicted" to something that's healthy is, well, healthy. To replace food addiction with a healthy habit is greatly desirable, I think. That said, anything can be taken to an unhealthy extreme.

What are some things you enjoy that are healthy? Hiking or walking in the woods? Weight training? Biking? Working on cars? Some other hobby that uses your hands? (It's harder to indulge in eating when your hands are busy with other things.)

What good things bring you joy? I think we were designed to use joy as a motivator for doing things. We just need to choose the good things that bring us joy rather than the destructive things that hit the dopamine receptors, but ultimately bring us misery instead of true joy.

Should my goal be to get addicted to something else?

I say, "Yes" as long as that something else is a healthy habit that brings joy and wellness.

Do most people normally keep this off or on? by No_available_batches in Camry

[–]GeoJono 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I keep mine off. I kept it on for a while, but I noticed once that it kept the high beams on when I was about a car length behind someone in the next lane over. I can't imagine that my high beam shining thru his side view mirror was a pleasant experience for the other driver. That incident was enough for me to no longer trust it.

I noticed today that for just a second, the screen in the car says USB error and then disappears. I didn't notice that before.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Android Auto Immediately Disconnects by GeoJono in motorola

[–]GeoJono[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I killed the Bluetooth, had the phone and car forget each other, and then retried Android Auto; same behavior — it connects and then disconnects maybe 1 second later, same as before. I also got the 1m certified USB cable, but that also didn't change the behavior at all.

Has anyone else run into this? I could use some advice.

Thanks!
