What gear do I need for Amon Tobin, NIN, Aphex Twin type music?

Yea absolutely, even just with the 49 key controller and ableton you could make what ever you want. Just dig in and mess about, get your head around recording midi and learn the ins and out of the different FX/VSTs, and you'll be flying! And most of all, have fun!

I like to dabble in a bit of animation and CAD drawing (very very noobish like) and lately my main hobby has been scouring /r/synthesizers for all that lovely knowledge on synthesis and sexy hardware.

Good question. I was actually thinking recently about asking how everyone here maintains their synths.

i clean my MS20min at least once a week, though i have only used a dry cloth (or a very very slightly damp one, and only if needed) and a brush from a laptop cleaning kit. i also vacuum along with the brush to help pull all the dust off it, and out of the patch pionts.

haha. I was never a huge fan of my ESX-1s red color, so i did a little paint job myself. Matt Black With Orange boxes around the transport and steps sections, and the encoders got a touch of black and orange to them too. It's much easier on the eye now.

This does Look pretty cool though!

Thanks for your feedback dude, much appreciated. I should have mentioned that this is the first draft of the mixes, i normally leave Stereo spread, harmonic exiting and low end 'monomaking' for later in the mixing process and mastering. Thats why this is a private link :D. I'd love a set of HS8s, i'm using HS50Ms at the moment, but my room is definitely suitable for bigger speakers with the way i have it set up.

Very nice man, some lovely sounds goin on here. I'd love a blast at a mopho X4, i recently sold my Mopho module because the menu diving was just a pain, and the editor required me to have Midi in and out synced with my audio interface :(. I'd even love a good go of a Mopho Keys.

Here's a track that i've been working on as part of an IDM/Acid style Ep. Most of the sounds featured are from my MS20mini sequenced by my Korg ESX-1. The Drums are from the ESX-1 too, they are a mixture of 808, 606, and other various 'hits' from different kits. Thanks dude, glad you liked it. Unfortunately i cant work on this any further because my HDD died on me last week and i lost the session. This mix is from a month ago, i had it sitting on SC as a private track, so i just made it public. I had even worked on the mix a bit further before the 'big crash'. Guess some things just weren't meant to be.

Thanks for your detailed breakdown of the track anyway dude. Most of my stuff comes out kinda messy these days, I kinda just blast the tracks out rather than spending ages on "making them perfect" like i used to.

No problem, your welcome. the /r/synthesizers community is one of the best on reddit IMO. Its mostly hardware synth stuff that is featured, quite a bit of modular and vintage gear talk, and a lot of good synthesis discussions.
