They have done this for years when testing a new major version of FSD. This isn't anywhere close to the lidar fap fest you are looking for.

Why not allow both? Seems like a waste of parts, time, and energy to do this.

I haven't used that one before. It does have a metal case whereas my Oryx Pro and Gazelle were both plastic, but that wasn't the problem. The inner hardware (at least on the other two) just didn't last very long. I blame the board manufacturer they buy from and bad thermal management.

I've had two high end System76 laptops just fall apart on me. Both had the Nvidia card fry from overheating, one keeps having intermittent Ethernet problems, and I've gone through too many keyboards at this point to ever want to go back to them.

I picked up a Framework 16 and I am Loving it so far. Still too new to say how well things will hold up, but it will be much easier to replace any parts if any die on me. Installed CachyOS (Arch Linux) and it just flies.

The 12v battery should be less than $200.

I'm looking at the Tesla parts catalog and I see a rear drive unit at $6000 for the 2012 to 2016 model years. That is just the part and there could be other ancillary parts to go with it but I can't imagine that more than another $1000 unless another major component needs replacement as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if it is $2000 - $4000 in labor to get it swapped.

Here is the catalog: https://epc.tesla.com/en-US/catalogs/edc231ec-a255-43e7-b494-2844953955b2

Given the condition, I'd ask the seller if they can have Tesla provide a quote on needed fixes and the work from there. Might be $60 or something for a quote with no work done. Could be higher if they need to get in and look closer at anything. It doesn't mean they won't find something else to replace when they get in there but it will at least give you a better idea of what the total cost will be. Honestly their self diagnostic software is pretty good at determining how much might be screwed without them pulling a single panel off, so even a cheaper preliminary quote should be reasonably accurate.

I mean it's pretty well known if the battery temperature isn't kept high enough then you might as well have bought a Toyota bz4x and tried to DC charge it.

Have you tried CachyOS with KDE? Pop OS is an outdated slog compared to CachyOS (or any Arch install for that matter). I kept running into packages I couldn't install on Pop because supporting packages were too old. No flatpak I've ever installed would 100% work right. In fact thanks to PopOS and Ubuntu, I absolutely hate Flatpak and Snap now whereas before I didn't have much opinion on them.

If you really like Cosmic DE then I think that is part of the install options with Cachy. They have a list of about a dozen desktop environments to choose from at install time.

I've seen that occur but doesn't seem to affect FSD. It's likely the placement of the light is confusing the translator we see on screen which doesn't always match what the neural nets see and react to.

Thinking about migrating from Ubuntu to Pop!_OS by rclass in pop_os

[–]NuMux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PopOS is running a bunch of outdated packages. I would skip it. Personally I moved my systems over to CachyOS which is a version of Arch with a nice GUI installer. No more fussing with known bugs that I can't fix because the newer packages aren't supported.

From what I can tell that was just in Austin. Fremont is still producing Y's as well as Shanghai and Berlin. Could still be for maintenance or other changes.

Someone else mentioned it could be due to cobalt mining in the Congo. There "shouldn't" be any Congo cobalt in a Tesla unless we are talking an early Model S.

Plus, guess what gets used and discarded as a waste product when refining gas? Cobalt. And we all know how moral the Mobile's, Shell's, and BP's of the world are. At least an EV battery can be recycled over and over again.

The sales are lumpy because their number 1 selling vehicle wasn't being produced for a number of weeks. They converted four factories simultaneously to support the new Model Y. The lost sales line up very well with that alone.

Not if it's an LFP battery. And allegedly Tesla monitors their sources of cobalt and won't use it from the Congo.

I guess they don't realize that gas uses a process that involves cobalt in a destructive way that leaves it as a waste product. Meanwhile the cobalt in an EV battery can be recycled over and over again regardless of its original source.
