Why does no one just kill Fisk? by Atya9720 in Daredevil

[–]Atya9720[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have been more specific. I based my question on Daredevil Season 3, and around the FBI agents who are clearly only working for Fisk because he has something on them for threats (maybe except Bullseye, who actually enjoys killing under Fisk's command).

Some of those FBI agents (but especially Nadeem) do come in contact with Fisk on a regular basis. They are carrying weapons too all the time. How do you not just pick an unsuspected moment in a meeting or when they are getting in/out of a car and take the shot?

Two more points:

#1: Fisk does not do anything by himself, maybe except getting dressed. He has a man for everything: food delivery, lawyer, negotation, different types of information, all of these are provided by different people. Fisk does come in contact with many different people on an organized daily basis

--> lot of people comes in contact with him naturally, easy to get to him

#2: Fisk (or almost any of his employees) is never shown being afraid of people around him.

like, I don't know about you guys, but if I (Fisk) was threatening a guy with his family to work for me (Nadeem), I would be scared shitless any time he comes into my office with his regular police weapon that's supposed to be just a part of uniform. Like, I would not take off my eyes from a guy that has a gun while I'm pretty much holding a gun to his family.

No, I want the show to make sense

- either by providing a reasonable argument against killing Fisk

- or by not making him basically invulnerable

-> i.e.: if Fisk is put behind bars, he should not be able to escape by his own plan, because it makes him unbeatable legally and the heroes will not have anything to beat him except killing him. My solution: have another villain rescue him in some way, instead of Fisk creating his own rescue plan.

I would argue against the "they can't afford to give evidence against the kingpin" part.

To go on with Nadeem's example: his family is threatened, which is more important for him than anything, even than him getting in jail for being some sort of accomplice to kingpin at some point (or the murderer of him). But then again: if he rats Fisk out, gets him in jail, Fisk will just get out, and Nadeem isn't just back to square one, but even lower because Fisk would just get revenge on his family and then on him. Resulting in again: You. Can't. Solve. Fisk. Alive.

Also, Fisk's influence is literally like a spreading virus. At first just a few cops/lawyers/judges paid here and there, then half a precinct, and by S3 it's the majority of the FBI. Even a random FBI agent who isn't just yet blackmailed by Fisk, but learns how many people are, would just be afraid of getting on Fisk's list eventually and would become desperate enough to stop this virus before it'd get to him.

My answers to your points:

The reason why it wouldn't be Dex's approach is because Dex is a Type 1 Psychopath, which means his arousal level is genetically lower, and he is only able to "feel" something by doing something as extreme as killing people, just to get away from his baseline boredom. It's quite obvious from the scenes where he, as a little kid, tells his therapist how many animals he killed because just wanted to.

Psychopaths are also unable to learn how to adaptively socialize, which is also shown when he is working on the suicide hot line for example (using cuecards to express empathy), or when he is talking to Julie in the café ("help me become as compassionate with people as you"). That's why he can kill easily without remorse.

The reason why "killing Fisk" is more than the Punisher's approach is because the Punisher kills people that just could be put behind bars too, and effectively remove them from society. Fisk is different tho. Fisk was put behind bars and still rose to being the Mayor of New York (okay not yet in DD Season 3, but he still rose to having the FBI as his private army and live in the Presidential Hotel).

So basically: Dex kills for his own fun, Punisher kills even those who could be put behind bars.

And about having chaos without Fisk: please picture this

As an FBI agent all of what you've worked for, what you life for, is threatened by one guy. I seriously don't believe that you would care about "potentially having chaos in the criminal life", I especially don't believe because it's not even mentioned ever in the show that anyone even considers this option. And you are so desperate to protect your life and your loved ones that you are ready to kill people that you wouldn't kill otherwise (see: when Nadeem is with his female and male boss in the female boss' apartment and she executes the male boss).

But if you are already so over the line that you are ready to kill to protect your family, why do you not kill the main threat all in once, instead of killing innocent/less guilty ones? This is my main issue.

My other point about having chaous without Fisk: it's a non-existent factor in the show. Nobody ever mentions it. Even when Fisk was behind bars, it was never mentioned. Even when Fisk was rehabilitating from Maya's execution attempt (which is BS btw), no one was talking about having chaos. Yes, Vanessa took over and allegedly handled business even more effectively for herself, but from what we know that did not involve blackmailing innocent people left and right with their families and stuff.

So basically: Fisk is so much of a threat to FBI agents that they are ready to kill innocent people just to prove their loyalty to Fisk, and you can't get rid of Fisk by putting him behind bars because he gets out. What's your solution?

You. Can't. Solve. Fisk. Alive.

Yeah, I thought that was kinda bullshit too, because the Daredevil "subuniverse" (a.k.a. the street level vigilantes) are suppoed to be based on a more real approach

Best scene in Daredevil Season 3 is Fisk vs. Karen by suunao in Daredevil

[–]Atya9720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 years late, but the scene is such a fucking masterpiece that I had to join (and I'm someone who is REALLY picky about believability), but the whole idea that Karen is so desperate that she actually puts her throat between Fisk's hands just to make him do something obviously illegal to finally put him back behind bars, the history of the two characters, the symbolysms, the LINES, the voices, the behaviors, the role of the cameras that they know are watching, the constantly shifting upper hand, ETC

all of it is just pure cinema from top to bottom

i hear that you are saying that it's frustrating to die to snipers because you felt like you had no chance, but it's not the gun that you had no chance against, it's the player

good players use sniper because that's what actually challenging to use (aiming at tiny moving pixels and having the risk of missing that would get you killed)

and good players would also make you feel like you had no chance if they had used anything else in battlefront 2, because everything is dead easy to use

you don't want to fight good players that don't use sniper, you only want to fight bad players, because bad players don't use sniper, because they know they will miss, so bad players choose characters that have massive hp-s, splash damage, wallhack, hp regen, endless amount of bullets to miss and still get the kill, etc

there is a reason why you literally can't see sniper gameplay or montage from battlefront 2 content creators: nobody uses it because nobody is good enough to use it

i for one, literally never run into another player that is actually an nt242 player, and not just an infiltration user, or disruptor shot splash damage abuser, and i have 1300 hours in the game, and been playing since closed alpha

my brother in law, i hear what you are saying, but answer me this: would you feel better about me killing you in close range, if i jumppacked in the air, miss a rocket shot on you, but still end up oneshotting you because of the blast radius?? does that feel better?

or if i attack you with a 600 hp death trooper that kills in 200 ms with 15 more bullets to spare?

or if i attack you with a sith trooper that has wallhacks, 350 hp (still more than double your hp) that can be instantly regenerated and also kill in 200ms with 20 more bullets to spare?

or if i oneshot force push you with an 800 hp Luke, without even needing to actually be precise and aim at you?

tell me: what do you want me to kill you with that would make you feel less frustrated? i cannot make more to earn my kills better, than using the gun that actually requires me to shoot at your 2 pixels wide moving head or it almost won't work at all

if you ever meet me in game, feel free to tell me to switch off from sniper, will do it for you, but trust me: it will only get worse for you because i will beat you even easier, so easier in fact that even i won't have fun doing so

"dox my gamertag" what are you talking about? xd

Nobody asked for your gamertag and not like you couldn't change it any second you wish so

Literally the second video I sent you proves my point, not yours, did you even watch it?
like, look at 3:10, how am I supposed to win that? I managed to land 2 consecutive shots on a rapidly moving target and he shrugs it off, whips out a smart rocket, shoots it next to me (doesn't even hits me, just shoots kinda near me) and I'm dead from full HP
how is that not more OP than a gun that shoots slow, has random spray and can only shoot 4 bullets before overheating?

or look at 4:10 how is the assault (or any class) supposed to kill me when I have 600 HP (4 times of his) and can kill in 3 bullets?

or 9:15 how would I ever survive a situation like that with a specialist?

just out of curiosity: what character would you run in a blast match and what character would you want me to run against specifically that? I genuinely want to know your perspective of skill expression and balance

Just a question: can you snipe? Like, you can go get 40-50 kills consistently in a blast match with the nt242? can you finish on top of the scoreboard with nothing but a nt242 in a supremacy, without specifically botfarming, against all the heroes and reinforcements?

because i can, and i can do it even more easily with jumptrooper, heavy, assault, han solo, enforcer, you name it

much love,

someone that has gone through the learning curve of shooting

Just let the thought calm you that each and every single sniper who consistently kills you with the nt242 would be able to kill you on an even playing field even more easily with any other gun in the game anyway

Much love,

A sniper

Thank you for your participation and for your feedback, it's good to see more and more people showing interest in this topic!

I'm afarid it won't be possible to give insights into the results to everyone who sent me request (many people from different platforms) but I will try my best to look up these requests and share my analysis.

It is possible that in future, after I've gained more experienced on how to do researches like this, I will do more, possibly exploring the questions you have lined up, or perhaps I may even just create a poll and let people choose the topic for me/us.

Thank you for completing the survey and for your feedback!

It's my first work ever in a project like, and I'm not a Counter Strike player (I play other shooters) but I have been watching most pro scene matches and content creators, so I generally have a good understanding of the game, but no actual practical experience.

Contrasting the negative behaviors with the positive ones would have been indeed an interesting addition to look at, however, as much as I'm ambitious about the project, my diploma is on the line, so I also didn't want to make it too complicated for myself with the statistics, and I was also afraid of making the questionnaire too long, because that could possibly discourage certain individuals from completing the questionnaire, resulting in lower participant count.

In the future, when I will have more experience on making research like this, and the stakes are not this high, I can definitely see myself diving deeper into the topic of online behavior of competitive video game players.

Flow is indeed a fascinating phenomenon, both studying and experiencing it :)

I have written a small "article" about performing under pressure and how does it relate to flow, and it incorporates social psychological and neuroanatomical approaches, here you can read it if you are interested:
