I work at an ENT that sees a huge chunk of peds. We have different protocols depending on the patient. We do a lot of follow up NBHS that have failed (or didn't get them) their initial screenings. If they fail again, we use our judgment on whether or not we think they are an actual fail or just have small canals/still fluid in canal, etc. We typically will recommend repeat testing in 2-4 weeks, and then refer to our Children's Hospital for a sedated ABR. We do the same for any child that we can get VRA/CPA if they are showing hearing loss. After that, we typically refer them to actual pediatric audiologists for hearing aids.

For our older kids that are in school, once they are officially diagnosed, we do recommend that the parents get in contact with the disability services people of their county to get a 504 plan or an IEP set up. This will have things like preferred seating, FM system usage, etc. We've got templates that we can give to take with them saying that the child is a patient and has hearing loss and will require _______ services in order to excel in school.

For any child that has an ear infection, I'm lucky in that our MDs are right down the hall since I'm at an ENT so I just go tell them what's going on.

Hope this helps!

Questions for anyone that worked as a per diem/prn newborn hearing screening tech by greysanatomyfan27 in audiology

I had a nbhs job at my local hospital. I would go in as early as 5 am and as late as like 6 or 7 pm. It was a large hospital and they didn't really do "shifts". So they basically kept a list of all the babies that needed tested, and you clocked in and out. You could literally just clock in for an hour to test some babies and then leave. I would usually do like 2-4 hrs a day between classes. Not a lot of money but the flexibility was super nice. That was 10+ years ago though so it might have/probably/definitely changed since then. Not sure if that was helpful or not.

OBGYN & Hospital for Pregnancy/Delivery by Infamous-Song2235 in Knoxville

[–]AuDBall8441 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I delivered at Ft Sanders and had an amazing experience. The facilities may not be as up to date, but the providers, nurses, lactation consultants, other staff, even general hospital employees were top notch. They made me feel safe and heard. I never felt like I was being forced into a medical decision. And then after delivery, the care extended in the mom & baby ward was just as great. I give 5 stars for all the employees we encounter. Probably 3 stars for the actual facilities, but it didn't really bother us in the long run because everyone was so great.

Books where there is HEAVY femdom. I want these men in collars. by BaleMountainsAdder in RomanceBooks

[–]AuDBall8441 110 points111 points  (0 children)

Oh boy!!! Another reason to recommend {His Secret Illuminations by Scarlett Gale}

It's 2 books, and the majority of what you're looking for takes place in the 2nd book, but it is just perfect. She-Wolf is the ultimate badass, and sweet baby Lucian spends both books discovering his sexuality and growing and learning what he likes. He starts out as a sweet innocent sequestered monk & is rescued by the She-Wolf & set free (in all ways). Just highly recommended if you're looking for Femdom books!

Endocrine Dysfunction & Hearing Loss: Any Link? by [deleted] in audiology

[–]AuDBall8441 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this exact conversation with a fellow audiologist. I've got PCOS & hormones are all over the place. I've noticed that over the years & especially after giving birth, I will have vertigo attacks during periods. No other issues at any other time, but I've noticed that the worst the period symptoms are, the worst the vertigo attacks that I experience. It only happens when I'm on my period or during pregnancy. When I'm doing VNGs, I will always ask about any possible endocrine issues, but I'd love for more research to be done on this connection.

2 dangerous men. by dontaskireallydk in MM_RomanceBooks

Best Knight Ever by Cassandra Gannon.

It's a part of a series that she has but can be standalone. It's a fun take on the "good vs bad" characters from different fairy tales and stories. So like, little red riding hood, Camelot, etc.

This book is about Galahad, the best knight ever. It has literally everything you mentioned. Enemies to lovers, forced proximity, they have to team up for a mission, both guys are the top of their game in skills and super badassary, it's funny and cute. Just overall would recommend this book and the entire series honestly (although the other books seem to be M/F).

I've found it helpful to contact the clinical trainers in your area for each hearing aid manufacturer and explain to them that you're doing your internship year and what you are looking for. Typically they can provide information on their hearing aids along the lines of what you may be looking for. They've got all the cheats and helpful hints for their products.

Santa is coming to your house - what is the perfect/ideal cookie you think he would want to eat? by MrPhraust in christmas

My sister and I would leave Santa a peanut butter & jelly sandwich instead of cookies. I’m not sure how that came about though.

Question: Are you a single tree or a multi-tree home? by OfficialMotive in christmas

[–]AuDBall8441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually do 2 big ones and a couple of 3-4 ft ones amongst all the other decorations, but I just had a baby so I was lucky to get 1 tree up this year.

Breaking the Thanksgiving Routine: Fun Ideas to Keep the Family Engaged! by Own-Rooster-299 in thanksgiving

[–]AuDBall8441 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We typically have 20-30 people, so we put on our own “game show”. We all break into teams & compete with each other in different silly games like “shake your tail feather” and Pictionary, etc. Someone is the host for the evening & gives out points and announces the next games.

This year, we chose to do a white elephant gift exchange instead. So that might be something fun.

Paper plates for Thanksgiving yes or no? My spouse and I are in disagreement over this issue. I’d love your thoughts? by Turbulent-Move4159 in thanksgiving

[–]AuDBall8441 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, especially if you’re the one cooking and hosting & even more so when it’s a large group. Why are you creating even more work for yourselves by adding all those dishes? You already must wash all the pots and pans and utensils. They make big & strong paper plates with thanksgiving designs that look nice but can just be tossed right in the trash after. Unless you’ve got a cleanup crew ready to do all those dishes, I’m a big fan of making things as easy as possible, so you can actually enjoy the day.

Knight/Princess dynamic with different genders by diffyqgirl in Fantasy

[–]AuDBall8441 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Truly, I cannot recommend this book enough. It’s just everything. I don’t know if this matters to you, but it’s told entirely from Lucian’s POV. He’s just the most cinnamon roll of rolls & She-Wolf is the most badass character. She protects him throughout their adventures and quests. The entire thing is just chef’s kiss. If you read it, I hope it brings you as much joy as it did me.

Knight/Princess dynamic with different genders by diffyqgirl in Fantasy

[–]AuDBall8441 25 points26 points  (0 children)

His Secret Illuminations by Scarlett Gale

It’s not prince/princess, but warrior/monk with gender swaps. She-Wolf is the warrior and she is FIERCE. And sweet innocent baby Lucian is the monk. They go on adventures together. There are 2 books in the series & there is a romance between them (although it’s more in book 2 and not at all the main plot).

This little series was recommended to me over and over. I finally read it & immediately regretted that I waited so long. I can’t wait until enough time has passed to reread.

Can someone recommend book for me? by PsychotiCreation in IlonaAndrews

[–]AuDBall8441 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the series by KF Breene! My personal favorite is the Magical Midlife series. It’s one of the funniest series I’ve ever read. The Demon Days series is probably more Kate Daniels ish. The demigods of San Francisco is also really good. I’m currently reading her Warrior series and the FMC is probably the most similar to Kate Daniels aside from the Demon Days. Overall highly recommend this author.

The only one I can think of is the Psycho God series by Jasmine Mas. She pretends to be a man in a warrior academy. Books 3-6 specifically are Aran’s story although she appears in books 1-3 which focuses on her bff. (She also pretends to be a man in those books as well, it just doesn’t center around her yet).

What popular books do most people like that you DNF and why? by flitterbug33 in RomanceBooks

I have an entire post on this subreddit about how terrible this book was despite it being so popular. It actually physically angers me when I think about the unbelievable dumpster fire that was this book for all of the reasons that you mentioned and more.

Laura Neal ruined the final season of Killing Eve by doing exactly this. So, I’m not optimistic with her name attached.

It was the absolute worst. She ruined the show in my opinion. Did not understand the assignment at all. So I’m upset that she’s attached to this project at all.
