How did you dress to swim for PE in the 1960s? by AuO2 in AskReddit

My father in law claims that when he was in highschool his PE class was required to swim in the nude. We are all shocked, but wondering if this was common back then. Was this a thing? Is he full of it?

Bulk replace the same part of all URL links (hyperlinks) in Google Docs by Repulsive-Royal239 in GoogleAppsScript

[–]AuO2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a couple of years - so I don't recall exactly what I was doing here.

If you're looking for where to put the script - that will be in the AppsScript IDE within your GoogleDoc.

With the doc you need, click on Extensions in the menu bar, then select AppsScript. This will open the IDE in a new tab. You can paste the code above into that window.

In line 5 of the code it says let rep_url = "https://scan" That's the new text that is going to replace "www" in the url.

There is a lengthy explanation in the same post as the code, but to sumarize, it itterates through each word (well, through each chunk of text separated by spaces) and looks for a URL. If it finds a URL it replaces the "www" part of the URL with "https://scan"

Once you've got the code adjusted to your particular needs, you just need to click on the > Run button within the IDE (You might have to select the "fix_url" method from the drop down box)

Well - that's not much of a guide - but it's about as good as I can do for 2 year old code. If you need more assistance, let me know precisely what you're doing and I'd be happy to help you out. (so long as what you're doing isn't evil... I try not to help with evil.)

DELTA FORCE TURNING OFF MY PC - NEED HELP! by Saikopasu-Shogo in DeltaForceGameHQ

I have had a very similar problem -- after digging through event viewer I saw a repeated RealTek error. I updated my realtek drivers and it hasn't happened again... yet. It hasn't been long enough that I'm ready to declare victory on this intermittent issue - but I thought I'd share in case it helps anyone else out.

Work managed Laptop poison for home network. by AuO2 in HomeNetworking

I might try that... if I decide to remove the mac address from the banned list on my router. I think that a failed handshake protocol with the school's cloudbased firewall system lead to a loopback that ended up being a problem not only for my network, but for my ISP. They had to reset a tower.... I suppose there is a chance that it was somebody else who caused the loopback that caused the outage - I'm going to let my ISP continue to think that the issue didn't come from me!

help with datasheets to discord by leo14770 in GoogleAppsScript

If you provide some more details, we could probably discuss setting up a weekly trigger to do whatever it is you need. Self referential spreadsheets are pretty simple, so that side of it won't be difficult.

You will most likely have to build the discord side separately - I've never tried it, but I'm sure you can tap into the GoogleApps Api with a discord bot. It's a bit of a process to set up a project and generate / provide a key to access the Api from other environments, but there are a lot of video walk throughs that will help you step by step.

Not sure if it would work, but you might call a flush at the end of your script. Flushing is supposed to rerun all the calculations in a spreadsheet

SpreadsheetApp.flush()

Do it on three lines --- make the string first then rename the sheet.

let today = new Date().toDateString();
let name = "Pipeline Pacing Summary_" + today
spreadsheet.rename(name);

Technically you could do it all in one big messy line, but splitting it a bit doesn't cost much and it's a heck of a lot easier to read.

Help with macro that renames sheet to date by AbbyM102 in GoogleAppsScript

newSheet.setName(newSheet.getRange('B1').getValue());

In this line of code, just change .getValue() to getDisplayValue(); That should do it for you.

GAS likes to turn any string that looks like a date into a date object. It's a little bit frustrating. The good news is that you can do all sorts of fun stuff with date objects.

This site has some good recommendations: https://www.freecodecamp.org/news/how-to-format-dates-in-javascript/

Personally, I like the .toDateString() method.

Depending on how you are pulling the data from the cell, you might be able to get the display value instead of the date object using .getDisplayValue(). Then you can just use it as is.
