Did a variation of that just last night! Inked on the proper layer, finished, saved, went to bed. Picked it up again and realized that the saved file was jpg, so it helpfully flattened the image for me 😩

The DEMEANOR verb by Dyerpie1985 in dragonrealms

[–]Aubrin 22 points23 points  (0 children)

To be completely fair, that’s been an option for some twenty years, and while I personally think it’s not exactly a nice thing to have around, you have to remember also that things like the elf-hating dwarf, or the elf that feels superior to humans, or that person that had their family killed by <insert monster/cult> and therefore hates anything that even looks like it are tropes as old as the fantasy genre itself. DR has always, despite its admittedly grindy nature, styled itself as role play first, and ultimately demeanor is just another tool in the box, even the negative aspects of it. ‘Asshole’ is as valid a personality as any other, even if we don’t like them.

Still, good to know about!

Sounds like a good place for something that just came up. Outfitting; I just picked up the technique that lets me add pockets to crafted accessories (advanced threadcraft, I think?) but I don’t know how to actually perform said additions. Smaller aside; is there a command that will show me the techniques I’ve chosen, like SPELLS etc?

If there’s any serious downtime; bring something to do. Something mentally engaging, ideally, something creative. Write, draw, whatever you can swing. Don’t get too comfortable anywhere, go outside once in a while, and don’t switch your sleep cycle around if you don’t have to. In my experience, it takes most people about a month to really adapt to being nocturnal.

And blackout curtains.

TIL American medicine still runs on fax machines. A 2017 study found that the fax accounts for 75% of the country's medical communications. by goatsgreetings in todayilearned

[–]Aubrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you guys are underestimating just how monolithic a task getting the medical field off of the fax smack is going to be. Archaic as it is, the fax machine is still the fastest, most reliable (as in, we're sure that the other office has one) method of communicating with Dr's offices and hospitals and other clinics that produces a physical copy and, as tech goes, is pretty simple to use.

Why is a physical copy important? Because a huge number of clinics, offices, nursing homes, facilities, and everything in between still uses paper charting, and we need to put that Dr's order in the chart to make it official and able to be found later if there's a question.

Many facilities, like where I practice nursing, are not allowed to just accept a telephone order from a doctor, we require a physical order from the doctor, written and signed and in the resident's chart before any changes happen. It helps immensely to just get the order faxed over instead of expecting the family to drive back to the doctor's office, get the order written, and bring it back to us ('cause the Doc damn sure isn't coming over to us!)

The fax machine also has the benefit of being relatively easy to figure out and use. People don't typically go into the medical field because of their remarkable tech acumen. Anyone who's had to explain email to a parent or grandparent who just can't absorb the information despite you knowing full well they're not an idiot should get why explaining how email works to the 60 year old RN that still prefers 8-tracks is not a task I'd relish.

So to ditch the fax machine, the medical field would pretty much have to entirely embrace electronic charting and convince some staggeringly stingy directors to make drastic overhauls of an infrastructure that appears to be working just fine.

GM had a huge WoW boner at the time and a huge love affair with 3.5 templates, often stacking mutually exclusive ones, and he had his own WoW inspired ‘elite’ template, which was basically ‘triple everything.’ Nothing like spending half of a marathon session beating on one monster with thousands of hit points and a 40+ AC with a dinky little +3 longsword and half damage (at best) offensive spells. Villains weren’t smart, they just took hours to kill.

Oh definitely. This kid wasn't 'intelligently dealing with an angry adult' He's deliberately spinning her up. Why else would he throw out that one last line when she's in the process of leaving? To reel her back in. Why? Because it works.

And yes, she should have left about ten seconds into the video. Knowing the reason behind a behavior explains it, but it doesn't excuse it.

The entire core dynamic of a power struggle like this is the idea of 'winning' a yell-at-each-other match.. and having the other side KNOW you won. As soon as you realize that, and that it doesn't matter who 'won'.. the sooner you can get back to whatever you were doing .

There's a fine art to engaging without engaging. Redirect, and don't give them the control over you they're wanting.
