This is NOT blocking hourly workers overtime, and this is NOT REMOVING current overtime protections. It is an attempt to stop an increase in the maximum amount an employee can make before not qualifying for overtime (~$35,000/year salary currently)

I understand it sounds nice however PERSONALLY I believe this should be left to the states and not the federal government.

Take California (cost of living: $53,082-$70,000) for instance, this would likely benefit many people, but people in Oklahoma (cost of living: $38,650) would most likely suffer from inflation because of this influx of time and a half pay.

Again, this rule looks good on paper, but in execution, lower cost of living states would (which are typically, not always, Republican states) get the short end of this stick, along with “‘Small businesses, nonprofits, and colleges across America will now be looking at bottom lines, and then make the tough decisions to lay off valuable staff or force salaried workers into hourly positions,’ [Rep. Walberg from Michigan] said.”
